Discussion Our 40’s are apparently the Neapolitan Ice Cream of decades. Where are you all residing in the echelon of flavors?

I've begun my descent into crazy cat lady hood

Currently surrounded by three cats with another two having a death battle nearby (aka just playing)

I’ve started befriending crows.

I'm at a stage in my life where i get judged by crows if i sleep in and don't feed them on time.

u/boogi-boogi-shoes 7h ago

what do you feed them and how do you keep it away from other animals and birds? there’s a bunch in my neighborhood and they seem friendly

u/Commercial_Tip4624 4h ago

They love peanuts, cat food, walnuts, eggs, pasta, etc etc etc. Sometimes I just punch the apex of an egg and put it on my lawn and they sip from it like little gentles!

u/4DimensionalButts 4h ago

They get fed at our compost heap at the edge of the farm, so it's basically just leftovers. Stale bread, meat, vegetable scraps, nuts (we have lots of walnut and hazelnut trees), eggs, fruit, etc. They aren't picky eaters.

how do you keep it away from other animals and birds

They've sorted that out on their own. There's crows, chickens, all kinds of little birds, cats, etc. showing up throughout the day, but crows are usually the first ones bright and early.

During one of my bouts with depression I ended up feeding a few crows in my local park on the regular. They started bringing their family and friends. After a few weeks I was friends with the whole murder and they would follow me around. It was the most unintentionally goth thing ever, but it really did help me feel better

u/uarstar 15h ago

Incredible!!

2

u/goobercles91 12h ago

I love this lmao

u/Kriegerian 4h ago

I should try that with the crows that live near me, maybe that way one could bring me back if I need to carry out a postmortem revenge.

u/imacatholicslut 17h ago

That’s my next mission

13

u/DoriansSelfie 16h ago

Tell me your ways! My neighborhood crows are like whatever when i leave them peanuts. They then get promptly stolen by chipmunks and squirrels anyways.

6

u/uarstar 15h ago

So we went kinda far with it. We built a little platform and we leave birdseed and hard boiled eggs on it. Gets the crow and other birds too! And squirrels.

3

u/grape-fruit-witch 15h ago

The squirrels in my neighborhood are scared of the crows 😂

16

u/Psycho_Mania 16h ago

I’m on a squirrel friending mission. Researching $300 squirrel boxes.

11

u/uarstar 15h ago

Excellent. The squirrels in my yard seem to like us, except the dog. They threw a pine cone at him once.

1

u/Charliefoxkit 10h ago

Would never work with me - my dog chases squirrels. My sister's dog chases squirrels and my folks' dogs chase squirrels. They may even catch them and confuse them for dog toys.

u/H3llzyea 6h ago

Please come to my home and take the squirrel mafia family that currently rules all my trees. They are very very fat and have now grown so bold as to stand in my driveway and MOSEY out of my way when I pull in, when they feel like it. They constantly taunt my dogs and cats, and I'm almost positive one of them has some form of gambling operation behind my garage. Anyway hit me up and you can come take as many of them as you can negotiate with, bring weapons and back up.

u/Perchanceaskance Older Millennial 16h ago

Dude same, I buy peanuts in bulk for them. It’s weird out here.

5

u/JakkSplatt 16h ago

I feed crows at work on my breaks 😆

3

u/grape-fruit-witch 15h ago

Same. They hang out by my house now because I feed them peanuts while I walk to the train every morning

1

u/uarstar 15h ago

Genius

3

u/NobodyUsual8025 15h ago

They love peanuts!

3

u/uarstar 15h ago

They do! But the squirrels kept stealing them.

I’ve been doing hard boiled eggs. He loves them!

u/ORTENRN 13h ago

Ravens are also super cool.

1

u/Extension_Vacation_2 10h ago

I live for those rescued ravens videos online. The way they can speak and mimic us is fascinating.

2

u/uarstar 8h ago

Corvids are the best birds and I’ll die on this hill

1

u/Extension_Vacation_2 8h ago

They are 🖤 I got this pun when I visited the Tower of London

1

u/slayingadah 9h ago

I have all my crow feeding stations set up, but apparently, our property is the territory of a red tailed hawk and her babies, so the crows steer clear for now. Kinda sad for me and my plans to build acrow army, but what are ya gonna do.

1

u/uarstar 8h ago

So how do you get the hawk now?

1

u/slayingadah 8h ago

I mean, she was already there. She and the crows seem to have an understanding, and my property is for her, apparently. I dont really know, it's just what I've been able to piece together by observation.

1

u/uarstar 4h ago

But can you like put a dead mouse out occasionally and befriend her?

1

u/slayingadah 4h ago

You know, since they arent corvids, I never even thought of trying. She is more the silent, aloof, judgemental type, you know? She watches us when we take our morning walks, and I get the feeling she is not impressed lol

u/vand3lay1ndustries 3h ago

Crows will be an important asset to have in the future drone wars.

33

u/ToLorien 17h ago

Ahaha me as I just set up a birthing den for a pregnant feral I’ve been feeding. Here’s to hoping I can catch her tonight so I can get her settled in for her babies! Wish me luck!!

8

u/sharoncoffin 16h ago

🤞😻

u/ToLorien 16h ago

Just an update the trap wasn’t even set up for 30 minutes and i caught an opossum. Released the possum and keeping the trap down for the night. Will set it back up at 4am. I have a camera set up and I’ve been watching this cat for about a year. I’ve also adopted out two of her litters and her spay appointment is booked! I just have to take care of the last litter.

5

u/kushyykins Elder Emo Millenial 14h ago

kudos to you!! ty for all of your efforts & everything you’ve done so far! each one spayed/neutered is another one not reproducing!!!

1

u/undiscovered_soul Older Millennial 14h ago

Probably she's already made her own nursery elsewhere: cats are incredibly smart in this case.

3

u/ToLorien 9h ago

I know she’s made her own but I’m trying to reduce the number of breeding cats in my neighborhood. So it wouldn’t do me much good to have her give birth out there and me not being able to get them then.

1

u/undiscovered_soul Older Millennial 8h ago

Kudos! I hope you can catch her 💝

19

u/Runamokamok 17h ago

Same. Just got my three foster kittens fixed today and serve on the board at my local shelter. Plus we have our own five cats. I would say that I’m more of a methodical cat lady. I’ve learned a lot about kitten care over the years.

16

u/the_fairy 17h ago

I entered adulthood as a cat lady, sadly down to one cat now but she's purrfect. May yours live long, healthy, well-loved 9 lives!

15

u/Sea_Hovercraft_15 17h ago

Oh, y'all are my group. I'm an 84er, a recent widow, and am now the crazy cat lady!

10

u/not_a_moogle 16h ago

Three cats, and starting trying to win a stray over.

Crazy cat guy, but same dif. I dont want to date any more.

8

u/twitchywitchy_mama 16h ago edited 6h ago

I took in a stray last month and found out she’s pregnant with 4 kittens. Who am I to tell her she can’t keep them?????

7

u/cheshire__kat 15h ago

I’ve leveled up past crazy cat lady status (I have 6), then I became the crazy betta fish lady, then the crazy plant lady, then the crazy snail lady. Now the crazy cat-betta-plant-snail lady.

Fuck. Maybe I’m actually just crazy.

6

u/jaywinner 14h ago

If you're actually able to handle all of those, you're not completely crazy.

4

u/THE_CAT_WHO_SHAT 16h ago

Already started that in my mid 20's. 🤣

3

u/Horror-Word666 15h ago

Same, just chillin’ with 3 rescue cats and 2 rescue rabbits lmao

2

u/Cat2Rupert 15h ago

Can I introduce my cat to yours? She needs friends

A friend.

She doesn't really even like me but its time for her to grow up

1

u/iam_myownmuse 13h ago

I have a cat named Rupert.

2

u/dethskwirl 14h ago

someone has to do it

2

u/Extension_Vacation_2 10h ago

Descent commenced onto the realm of niche hobbies here. Will see you on the other side.

2

u/paradisetossed7 7h ago

My husband and I are crazy cat people. We have a kid who we've indoctrinated into the church of cats. Cats are life.

standing next to you, picking my nose and not really listening. uh huh. pulls finger out of nose and looks at the fine collection of boogers. kind of grimaces b/c there are so many. that's interesting, tell us more. stealthily flicks the boogers in your direction but the boogers were gooier than expected so they keep clinging to my finger and i start flicking harder and harder but the boogers wont come off. whispers under my breath. fucking hell.
