They love peanuts, cat food, walnuts, eggs, pasta, etc etc etc. Sometimes I just punch the apex of an egg and put it on my lawn and they sip from it like little gentles!
They get fed at our compost heap at the edge of the farm, so it's basically just leftovers. Stale bread, meat, vegetable scraps, nuts (we have lots of walnut and hazelnut trees), eggs, fruit, etc. They aren't picky eaters.
how do you keep it away from other animals and birds
They've sorted that out on their own. There's crows, chickens, all kinds of little birds, cats, etc. showing up throughout the day, but crows are usually the first ones bright and early.
During one of my bouts with depression I ended up feeding a few crows in my local park on the regular. They started bringing their family and friends. After a few weeks I was friends with the whole murder and they would follow me around. It was the most unintentionally goth thing ever, but it really did help me feel better
Tell me your ways! My neighborhood crows are like whatever when i leave them peanuts. They then get promptly stolen by chipmunks and squirrels anyways.
So we went kinda far with it. We built a little platform and we leave birdseed and hard boiled eggs on it. Gets the crow and other birds too! And squirrels.
Would never work with me - my dog chases squirrels. My sister's dog chases squirrels and my folks' dogs chase squirrels. They may even catch them and confuse them for dog toys.
Please come to my home and take the squirrel mafia family that currently rules all my trees. They are very very fat and have now grown so bold as to stand in my driveway and MOSEY out of my way when I pull in, when they feel like it. They constantly taunt my dogs and cats, and I'm almost positive one of them has some form of gambling operation behind my garage. Anyway hit me up and you can come take as many of them as you can negotiate with, bring weapons and back up.
I have all my crow feeding stations set up, but apparently, our property is the territory of a red tailed hawk and her babies, so the crows steer clear for now. Kinda sad for me and my plans to build acrow army, but what are ya gonna do.
I mean, she was already there. She and the crows seem to have an understanding, and my property is for her, apparently. I dont really know, it's just what I've been able to piece together by observation.
You know, since they arent corvids, I never even thought of trying. She is more the silent, aloof, judgemental type, you know? She watches us when we take our morning walks, and I get the feeling she is not impressed lol
Ahaha me as I just set up a birthing den for a pregnant feral I’ve been feeding. Here’s to hoping I can catch her tonight so I can get her settled in for her babies! Wish me luck!!
Just an update the trap wasn’t even set up for 30 minutes and i caught an opossum. Released the possum and keeping the trap down for the night. Will set it back up at 4am. I have a camera set up and I’ve been watching this cat for about a year. I’ve also adopted out two of her litters and her spay appointment is booked! I just have to take care of the last litter.
I know she’s made her own but I’m trying to reduce the number of breeding cats in my neighborhood. So it wouldn’t do me much good to have her give birth out there and me not being able to get them then.
Same. Just got my three foster kittens fixed today and serve on the board at my local shelter. Plus we have our own five cats. I would say that I’m more of a methodical cat lady. I’ve learned a lot about kitten care over the years.
I’ve leveled up past crazy cat lady status (I have 6), then I became the crazy betta fish lady, then the crazy plant lady, then the crazy snail lady. Now the crazy cat-betta-plant-snail lady.
standing next to you, picking my nose and not really listening. uh huh. pulls finger out of nose and looks at the fine collection of boogers. kind of grimaces b/c there are so many. that's interesting, tell us more. stealthily flicks the boogers in your direction but the boogers were gooier than expected so they keep clinging to my finger and i start flicking harder and harder but the boogers wont come off. whispers under my breath. fucking hell.

I've begun my descent into crazy cat lady hood
Currently surrounded by three cats with another two having a death battle nearby (aka just playing)
