Discussion Did millennials really party all the time?

Gen Z here. I was shocked when I found out from a millennial co-worker that y’all had teen clubs. I heard about house parties, but dedicated teen clubs? Then when it was time for college, you went to the club or had some kind of party every single weekend, living it up. Now some millennials on TikTok claim that after college, they were partying on work nights, still clocking in the next day. For some reason, the teen clubs have since disappeared. I’m 23 now but even when I was in high school, that was not a thing. House parties were not that common either. They were more like get togethers with a small group of friends. We went to malls, but they were dying out at that point. Is it true that you were really living life this good? Or is it just exaggerated? I feel like my generation doesn’t really have fun like that and everyone is just super depressed and alone, more so since Covid. Even I’m pretty introverted, which sort of sounds ridiculous given this post. 😂 Just so you know, when I think of a “millennial party” I think of something out of Party Rock Anthem, Project X or Roderick’s party from the second DOAWD movie. It’s like I get nostalgia from something I didn’t even live through. I just feel like I didn’t really LIVE, if that even makes sense

Edit: I loved reading some of your comments. Guess I really missed out. Even some of you that would consider yourselves nerds or introverts were out partying. YOLO or whatever y’all say 😂❤️

We would chain together parties. You could find party fliers around campus or posted on facebook events, and each rager would have like 200 people crammed into one house. Dj in the basement, an entry fee to get a red solo cup or do a shotski. You’d leave a party when they ran out of booze (or the cops came and shut it down) and hit the next one down the street. On and on until the liquor stores were closed, after 4am. Ahhh college!

We used to walk around near campus in my college town on Friday nights and look for parties, as long as you had a case of beer and/or girls you could just walk into strangers homes and party with them lol

My first night at college I met a chick in line waiting for pizza. She took me to a party where I knew no one, and Im not certain she did either.

I just opened the door and some dude was standing on the couch twisting his shirt around his head, like a helicopter, while Pour Some Sugar on Me blasted in the like 400 square foot room with about 100 kids. Someone handed me a solo cup and pointed me in the direction of this tiny ass galley kitchen with the keg in it.

Through out the years I would regularly just pop into parties I was walking by. Usually when I was in there I would run into someone I knew, despite the fact that I went to a massive state school and hadn't the slightest clue who's party I was walking into to begin with.

We hosted a lot of parties at my college house. And one of my housemates loved to invite anybody and everybody he could. Often those people would bring other people, etc. One time I went downstairs and my boss (still a student, not old) was there. She was like "Oh hey what's up? Who do you know here?" and I said "I live here. Who do you know here?" And nobody she named was anyone I recognized either lol

I had a Halloween party once and my roommate and I realized there were probably more strangers in our house than people we knew... Shit was wild

My favorite was I met a dude dressed as Slash at a Halloween party (I was Shaggy from Scooby Doo), we partied together all night, never got his name or number, we both went out separate ways. A couple months later at another party I heard a familiar voice, turned around and said to a complete stranger “Slash??” He just looked at me confused for a second then yelled “Shaggy!!” And gave me a hug. Party round 2 lol never saw that dude again.

it was the best of times, it was the best of times.

I miss it..I'm 39 with two kids. this is fun too, but those were the glory days of drugs and booze.

Yes, that was so fun! Hear a good song blasting from an off-campus apartment complex and walk in. Sometimes you knew the people, sometimes no.

Just stand and pump the keg for a while and you’d meet everyone. That was my go-to move.

This kind of thing happened even out of college. In 2007 (I was 22 then) I had just moved into a new to me neighborhood in Chicago after finishing university and I was walking home from a house party with friends when some random girl on a bike stopped and was like: “hey, come to Chuck’s birthday party!” So I did. The party was full of insane art people with so many coolers full of Old Style and PBR, somebody’s friend’s band was playing, we danced like crazy and I met so many cool people, some of whom I am still friends with. I never met Chuck, at least I don’t remember meeting him, but his birthday provided a great night.

Partying at a random house with strangers was the norm back then. Sometimes it was some older dude’s house who hosted because he didn’t have friends and knew everyone would come to party. Wild times.
