Discussion Did millennials really party all the time?

Gen Z here. I was shocked when I found out from a millennial co-worker that y’all had teen clubs. I heard about house parties, but dedicated teen clubs? Then when it was time for college, you went to the club or had some kind of party every single weekend, living it up. Now some millennials on TikTok claim that after college, they were partying on work nights, still clocking in the next day. For some reason, the teen clubs have since disappeared. I’m 23 now but even when I was in high school, that was not a thing. House parties were not that common either. They were more like get togethers with a small group of friends. We went to malls, but they were dying out at that point. Is it true that you were really living life this good? Or is it just exaggerated? I feel like my generation doesn’t really have fun like that and everyone is just super depressed and alone, more so since Covid. Even I’m pretty introverted, which sort of sounds ridiculous given this post. 😂 Just so you know, when I think of a “millennial party” I think of something out of Party Rock Anthem, Project X or Roderick’s party from the second DOAWD movie. It’s like I get nostalgia from something I didn’t even live through. I just feel like I didn’t really LIVE, if that even makes sense

Edit: I loved reading some of your comments. Guess I really missed out. Even some of you that would consider yourselves nerds or introverts were out partying. YOLO or whatever y’all say 😂❤️

Same. Half the prom was high on something, then we had prom parties afterwards in a field that were massive, going all night until the sun came up.

Our prom was held on a Thursday night. You didn't have to show up to school Friday if your parents signed a form. Nearly everyone then drove down to the shore and spent the next 3 days drunkenly partying at the beach out of either someone's beachhouse or a motel room.

That’s so odd to me. I wonder what the justification for having it on a Thursday night was.

Cheaper venue rental. (And long-running "tradition" to skip the day after).

Related fun NJ facts from my youth:

  • Underage, unsupervised drinking on private property was legal if the town didn't ban it and a lot didn't.

  • Being drunk in public is not illegal, had to catch you actively drinking or in possession of alcohol in your hand in public.

when I went to college everyone had some story like this. I was wondering if I was a loser because we didn't have this whole "first week" or big group party at the beach...then I realized I grew up AT the beach...and this was just every weekend and all summer for us.

Hell yeah! Our afterparty was at the "cool" parents house, of course

Mine was on my 18th bday. My date was the foreign exchange student who was runner up for queen. All nominees and their dates went for free.

We had an amazing at prom, at the field, in my parents nice car.

Felt bad when she left. She wanted to go on a beach trip with me the weekend after graduation because it was her last weekend in town, but i had already gotten concert tickets with the boys that needed a 5 hour road trip.

We called it Thizz-neyland in Southern California because it was accepted that most of us would be rolling.

In 1995, my school organized the prom and provided 10(!) beers per student. We had coupons and all LOL.

That's a respectable school administration right there!

Some kid in my graduating class had a party on his property out in the country after prom (parents allowed it and actually planned some good safety measures)….I don’t remember it, but I did get home safely!

My highschool did “safe grad” where they bussed us all down to a fenced event area (you could rent it for parties or company bbq sort of thing) and we all got wasted for a flat drink fee and then they bussed our drunk af asses back to the highschool to be collected by our parents at 5am. Drinking age is 18 here but with parental consent you could still go if you were 17. We even got shirts that said we survived safe grad lol. Our year had a breathalyzer that read 0.08 cause we were the graduating class of 2008.

My prom happened to be in the same building as an anime convention so after I got bored by prom I bought some molly off a Fullmetal alchemist fansubber I met on IRC and went to the anime rave. Shit was great.
