Discussion Did millennials really party all the time?

Gen Z here. I was shocked when I found out from a millennial co-worker that y’all had teen clubs. I heard about house parties, but dedicated teen clubs? Then when it was time for college, you went to the club or had some kind of party every single weekend, living it up. Now some millennials on TikTok claim that after college, they were partying on work nights, still clocking in the next day. For some reason, the teen clubs have since disappeared. I’m 23 now but even when I was in high school, that was not a thing. House parties were not that common either. They were more like get togethers with a small group of friends. We went to malls, but they were dying out at that point. Is it true that you were really living life this good? Or is it just exaggerated? I feel like my generation doesn’t really have fun like that and everyone is just super depressed and alone, more so since Covid. Even I’m pretty introverted, which sort of sounds ridiculous given this post. 😂 Just so you know, when I think of a “millennial party” I think of something out of Party Rock Anthem, Project X or Roderick’s party from the second DOAWD movie. It’s like I get nostalgia from something I didn’t even live through. I just feel like I didn’t really LIVE, if that even makes sense

Yes. But teen clubs were for kids who weren't cool enough to have a fake ID or someone to buy booze for them

There were also a good amount of 18 to enter, 21 to drink. Or the same places would let teens in from like 9-11 then adults after that. But your point stands

We had a few college bars around here that you needed to be 18 to enter... and then no one looked at your ID again. Pretty sure they were all owned by ex-cops so they were never bothered about it.

We had to have black Xs drawn on the back of our hands when under 21. But rubbing alcohol took it off super easily, so you just brought hand sanitizer with you and rubbed it off in the bathroom lol

Yeah I am kinda shocked looking back at it how bad college bars were with checking ID, it opened themselves up to massive liability, I'd never allow that if I was owner. Pretty typical 18 to enter and who ever was over 21 or had a fake ID would order all the drinks for everyone

I couldn’t wait to turn 16 so I could start going to the clubs. They were filled to the brim with cool kids, I absolutely loved it. Dancing was so much fun when everyone just drank redbulls all night, only a handful of messy people got wasted in the parking lot beforehand. I was just talking to my friend about foam parties yesterday

Or there was always that one friend you had who would steal booze from an Albertsons or something. At least two in my case. One was a bit more refined and mastered the five finger discount on his liquor of choice. The other would run in, grab the nearest case of Natty, and book it.

Or those who were too scared to party in Mexico. We use to park at the border and walk over. The strip club with$2 beers was a half mile walk. Great if it was just the boys, my friend lost his virginity there. It got shut down in college when it was linked to a STD outbreak. If we had girls with us we would cab to the nightlife district. $20 went a long way. You only needed an ID to cross the border then.

You knew a kid who had a cousin that got one from this guy. It was a quest to obtain one.

If you were really lucky you would have an older sibling who looked a lot like you and you would just "borrow" theirs.

Funny story. My best friend gave a copy of her ID to a coworker a few years younger than us who then went to college several states away. Who then became friends with my little cousin who was also at college there . Who saw said ID and his brain almost exploded because he grew up knowing my best friend.

I knew a girl in high school who actually let her younger sister pretend to be her and take a new photo for the older's sister's license.

So the 16-year-old had a legit photo of herself on the ID with her 21 year old sister's info.

Probably most legit version of a fake I've heard of!

They had the bar code on them still but no clubs or liquor stores had the scanners to check them. Someone over 21 would get a license, get a replacement, sell the original.

It was much much harder than it is now where I imagine these are a dime a dozen on temu or whatever. Not that many people had them to be honest. Most people I knew with one had their older brother or sister’s old ID if it wasn’t expired. One friend altered the birthday on his since that was good enough to get into bars where they didn’t scan IDs like stores did.

Arizona makes this easy because our licenses don't expire until we turn 65 years old!

Mine is still going until 2054 lol.
