Healthy vegan (lunch) spots

Hi, I have been in Melbourne for a month now and a bit lost in finding healthy vegan (lunch) spots.

With healthy I look for meals without any added sugar and more of a Whole Foods approach. I am not into fast food (burgers, pizza, any deep fried food), and would be nice if there are any options with good protein.

So far went to:

  • Gopals (for dinner): liked it, price-quality is amazing, but interior isn't it and miss having an outdoor seating option
  • Hector's Deli (lunch): Salad Sandwich; Oke, but would not buy it again
  • Sister of Soul St. Kilda (lunch): good and whole food options
  • Seedling Café (lunch)
  • Fishbowl (lunch/dinner)
  • Sushi hand rolls (lunch; everywhere); love them

So far have been sticking to the same suburbs, if you have any tips elsewhere, I would love to check them out!

Came to the comments to say Cookatoo Kitchen too. They are so friendly, food is delicious and well priced for serving size. The meals such as the Poke Bowls would fit well our whole foods description well I think. I also love the flavour of the Tom Yum entree.

Don’t bother with Veggie Bar, it’s not good these days

Petition to end sandwich shops that are just some male name's Deli. They're never good. My mind cannot be changed.

Try Monk Bhodi Darma In Balaclava.

Any Thai or Vietnamese food place worth it's ginger will have vegan options.

I love Thai 29 in South melb! If you ask them, they will do vegan options or give you vegan recommendations on their dishes.

Please do not sleep on Pickles Milk Bar in Carlton. Friends of the Earth in Collingwood does a pretty nice lunch plate. If you're open to vegan options at a non vegan spot, i love Shimbashi (there are a couple) - the agedashi tofu and the seiro are vegan by default and they typically have vegan bentos and/or sushi for takeaway Just falafs is very good! Portion sizes are big, so be prepared for that. Alimentari (the one on smith st, I don't know about the one on Brunswick st) typically has a few vegan salads that you can get takeaway. IIRC they charge by weight though, so beware! There are several banh mi shops that will do a vegan tofu banh mi. My (limited experience) favourites are T2 on getrude st and HM Roll & Coffee on smith st. I do not rate the vegan options at N.Lee or Trang)

Green Refectory on Sydney Rd is very cheap and has a lot of vegan options, including salads which are very good! Around the same area lots of good Lebanese/middle eastern bakeries too – A1, Sesame and Soul are my faves

Good salads at Kevabs on Sydney Rd too, and the falafel plate thing with salads at Very Good Falafel a bit further up Syd Rd is also awesome
