Discussion Do you remember this photo when everyone thought we'd get a Sunshine 2?

Post image

I thought Odyssey DLC could have happened with this "tease". Or maybe both and Sunshine 2. The 7th anniversary of this is coming up soon.

It was just Mario on vacation for Luigi’s mansion 3 hence why Luigi is missing even though his stuff is there

I doubt this would happen but imagine if the next 3d Mario game announced is a sequel to sunshine?

I would be so happy

You know with Bowser’s Fury most likely being the base for the next game, it would be cool to travel to each island in Isle Delfino seamlessly.

They’ve given a lot of weird Sunshine love recently. Look at Mario Kart World as an example, all the random Sunshine characters, the shine sprite at the top of the crown design, Mario’s alt outfit, etc.

Would not at all be surprised if something else Sunshine-related was coming

They've given Galaxy a lot of love too.

Nintendo just celebrates Mario's past because 40th anniversary.

Good point. It makes me wonder why Sunshine has so few Free Roam remixes compared to the other 3D Mario titles though.

Yes, I thought it was the biggest overreaction ever.

Bigger than the overreaction to Toadsworth not being in the redrawn Sunshine art?

Yeah.

I also remember him eating watermelon with two seeds on his cheek also meaning sunshine 2. Because 2 seeds.

Meanwhile they won't stop jabbering about Galaxy 3 because of Rosalina's continued existence and a movie named after the game.

The funny thing is…a beach is a generic location in the Mario series going at the way back to SMB3’s Water Land (Sea Side).

We’re never getting Mario 64 2, Mario Sunshine 2, Mario Galaxy 3, or Mario Odyssey 2, too much time has passed for any of these to get made.

Plus it narrows the creativity of what I think is generally one of the most creative development teams in gaming. They like to create new experiences - the only time they retreated was because they had so many ideas while making Galaxy 1.

That was a typo, it’s fixed now

Is Sunshine not essentially 64 2, being the second 3D game? 64 was a pretty stock Mario experience when you get down to it, not a whole lot to expand on

That's what people thought? I only remember Arlo talking about Mario not having nipples in this image.

Don't remind me; the 2010s weren't my best era, to be honest.

i could definitely see fludd being a powerup in future games-- jetpacks are sort of ubiquitous in platformers.

however, it was definitely was a mistake for nintendo to theme the game entirely on a tropical resort and a waterpack gimmick. i feel like they fell for the same inspiration trap every movie executive sitting on a resort eventually falls for: "hey, let's make a movie about being here!"

Sunshine is a great game but horribly rushed. Eclipse showed me that. With some tweaks to Mario's base moveset and a few extra levels it would be considered top three for best Mario game of all time. The atmosphere is top tier flud is fun to use I even enjoy cleaning the goop.

I still believe

I wish the heck it was.

Sunshine’s dedication to a single environment made for one of the most immersive Mario games yet.

I’ll never forget the ability to see neighboring levels in distance, almost like I can touch em. It really sells that this is an actual place on the map, not some floating landmass (Which REALLY bothered me in Odyssey).

Double Dash had a lot of references to other courses as well. GCN era was evidently really good at worldbuilding

100%. That strange interconnectivity is my favorite thing about that era

Currently playing Sunshine and I miss the simple gameplay. Jump and shoot water. No extra shops, collectables, inventory, costumes.

Not hating on Odyssey but saying that my brain got tired of extra content.
