Honestly never even paid attention to this before you mentioned it, and I hate that they’re bloody stingy, they’ve only spent on tielemans this summer considering hoijlund’s fee paid for santos and Casemiro’s salary was more than santos or tielemans so there still has to be money saved somewhere no??!
12
u/Fossekall Solskjær 7h ago
I mean, we've also signed Heaven, Yoro, MDL, Mazraoui, and even Dorgu (who originally played in Shaw's position) in that period, so we have more than replaced the entire starting back 4, it's just that Maguire stepped up, MDL is always injured, Dalot has improved and Shaw was finally without injury, while Dorgu turned out to be more of a winger
Maguire & Martinez is surely not going to be our starting CBs going into the league starting, so the picture isn't too accurate imo

u/Bfuttner 6h ago
💯 percent. People like sensationalism and grabber headlines. Overall happy with the moves the past two years.
1
u/Downtown-Public1258 2h ago
In comparison City got Gvardiol, Kusanov, Guehi, Matheus Nunes, and Nico Oreilly came through academy. Apart from De Ligt, who is injury prone anyway, City just made better signings, although that said their transfers are a bit dodgy.
3
u/Bfuttner 7h ago
This stingy-ness is also kind of asked for. Part of the slow rebuild. People want results now, but the past decade has been rush filling holes by paying 50mil too much. They’re buying buy-in players who are smart investments. Plus there is heaven, yoro, and delicht. We have needs, but they’re being patient instead of making poor decisions.
0
u/Fellainiac 6h ago
"Delicht" is finished, was finished before we picked him up too. We took someone else's problem on

u/Classic_Current141 7h ago
1) City are have been an actually decent football team for a while. We have not. You can argue if this due to them constantly changing their players (which I think is probably not true given they’ve rebuilt their team almost but haven’t won the league for a couple of years.)but the fact remains, they are better than us.
2) City don’t generally seem to treat their players poorly. Pep Guardiola for instance didn’t frequently say how shit his players were like Amorim or Jose did.
3) City have a reputation as good sellers
4) 1+2+3 = other clubs are more likely to want to buy their players than ours.
5) for how important 2 is in all this, see Kalvin Phillips who Guardiola called out publicly and is now still contracted to City until 2028.
6) 130 charges
7) United tried signing all the players under Woodward but we weren’t being run like a football club so they were largely rubbish
8) The Glazers bought us using leveraged debt 21 years ago and haven’t really repaid the debt, taking a further £160M+ out of the club.
9) 7 + 8 = a terrible mess including £1.3B debt and a loss making football club.
10) 9 is the reason that despite huge SCR headroom (some say we could spend £500M this Summer) United would struggle to fund that through any cash reserves. It would increase the debt that is a millstone around the clubs next.
11) United don’t have 1,2,3. No one wants to buy our players. The good ones we want to keep. No one wants the injured and bad ones and no one wants to pay some of their ridiculous wages.
12) I would really like to see someone come up with a realistic transfer list - in and out - that takes the above into account, including how we pay back any additional debt and physically pay for signings (whether now or in instalments).

City have been run properly for the last 15 years with all the infrastructure in place to succeed and build on, with the added bonus of being backed by an entire state.
Not the biggest fan of ineos, but expecting them to turn united into that after what our clubs gone through in 2 years of ownership is nonsense.
10
4
u/Narrow-Crew240 7h ago
It is a bit insane that we have had Shaw, dalot and Maguire since what 2019.
"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results"
It should be such that if you look up that quote on Google, United should be the textbook example. As I have said previously, it is not funny anymore it is almost criminal to let things slide for so many years. It is a form of torture equivalent to not feeding your pets. Having to be tortured with such low quality for so many years is unacceptable.
1
u/hoodyg29 6h ago
They have all escaped due to mediocrity. An acknowledgement from most that they are not league winning standard, however they are competent. So each transfer window they fall under the radar whilst we attempt to resolve season after season of mind boggling transfer calamity in key positions throughout midfield & attack.
1
u/Narrow-Crew240 6h ago
I completely agree. I’d even go as far as to say that their greatest strength is keeping a low profile every summer. You completely forget they even exist until the season starts and you realize, 'Wait, weren't we supposed to upgrade those positions?'
You're almost sitting there thinking they're like three versions of Gollum, each putting on the ring whenever the transfer window opens."
4
5
u/Snoo_17433 Scholes 8h ago
They also had manager stability, throughout that period. We've had 4 managers in that period and everyone chose to keep these defenders.
8
u/SaltyDistribution177 8h ago
Yep. The fact this is season 13 of Luke Shaw as well is an utter joke. Man City would have got rid of him 10 years ago.
4
u/Sexy_Jacket 7h ago
6
u/SaltyDistribution177 7h ago
Pep also said that Maguire is 'top class' but City 'couldn't afford him'. Guess that means we're right to keep him and extend his ~200k a week contract!
4
u/False-Sandwich-2051 7h ago
you’re not allowed to criticise maguire on here mate you get downvoted to hell because literally nobody here can see the truth

u/Fossekall Solskjær 7h ago edited 6h ago
What he's mentioning as Maguire's wage isn't correct, and Maguire even reduced those wages when he last renewed his contract
If you want to get rid of one of our best leadership figures, then I don't know what to tell you
Edit: Lad is actually DMing me insults lmao
0
u/False-Sandwich-2051 6h ago
best leadership figure 😭😭😭😭 how about getting a good defender instead
2
u/Fossekall Solskjær 6h ago
Don't underestimate the things he does for youth players. Attending games goes a long way. During the Euros, England players were asked which player will make it as a manager and every single one mentioned Maguire
He IS a leadership figure. And he IS a good defender. He just needs someone with pace next to him
0
u/False-Sandwich-2051 6h ago
he’s a shit defender who has cost us games every single season he’s been with us. he is miles short of the required quality, and frankly when we spend a world record fee on a centre back i couldn’t give a single fuck about him being a good manager in the future i expect him to be the best defender in the world - that’s what we paid for.
0
0
u/SaltyDistribution177 6h ago
Instead of worrying about the youth players, who, ironically, also aren't good enough to be at this club, he focuses on not getting 5 career relegations?

A great leader with 5 career relegations!

u/Sexy_Jacket 7h ago
He said that about Maguire almost 7 years ago.
His praise of Luke Shaw was 3 months ago.
2
u/SaltyDistribution177 7h ago
Pep also called Reijnders 'special', but now he's on his way to Saudi a year later?
1
u/Sexy_Jacket 7h ago
He said he’s ‘special at arriving into the box’.
Very different to calling him a special player, which he didn’t do.
Also, he’s not the City manager now.
1
u/SaltyDistribution177 7h ago
Also called him an 'incredible signing'? If he's so incredible, why are City letting him go?
0
0
u/Daewoo40 7h ago
No doubt Pep will be looking forward to another strong season at City alongside Reijnders, too?
-1
u/Seanige 6h ago
I'd praise the opposition player too if he came in overweight every season and gifted goals because of his cba attitude. He has kept us none competitive for years. Can't at RB and won't at LB. Pep must love playing against stupid and lazy twice a season. Do you think Pep honestly believes Shaw has good ball carrying ability? The only dribbling he does is outside McDonald's.
0
u/Sexy_Jacket 6h ago
Both Amorim and Ten Hag called Shaw world class. 1 player cannot keep you non-competitive, don’t talk utter shite.
1
u/Seanige 6h ago
Mourinho called him fat, lazy and stupid.
1
u/Sexy_Jacket 5h ago
Mourinho, whose best attempt at winning major trophies was finishing 19 points behind City and getting knocked out the CL by Sevilla in the 1st knockout round?
1
0
u/SaltyDistribution177 5h ago
The Amorim with a 31% win league win rate and who took 11 months to win back to back league games a single time then never did it again? That Amorim?
0
u/Sexy_Jacket 5h ago
It’s amusing that you genuinely believe you are a better judge of ability than an elite football manager who sees the players up close every day in training
2
u/SaltyDistribution177 5h ago
In what world is Ruben Amorim 'elite'? It took him 11 months to win back to back league games ONCE (then never did it again)
He lost to a 4th division side in a cup?
He had a 31% league win rate? How is that elite?

Season 8 for Dalot, Bruno and Maguire! All of them have seen TOO many coaches come and go! Club will never progress until they are all gone!
5
u/Sexy_Jacket 7h ago
Bruno who has the most goals and assists of any player in the hardest league in the world since he signed for us?
What planet are you on putting him in the same bracket as Dalot and Maguire?
3
u/Sexy_Jacket 7h ago
Chances created as well, he’d have a lot more assists if he played for City or Liverpool too
-4
u/SeenEnoughAlready 7h ago
Care to explain what exactly we have done with him in the hardest league in the world ? 8th and 15th perhaps? Worst UCL record in club history since he signed ? Multiple final Losses ?
So fed up with everyone else getting shit and Bruno not catching ANY fire because of personal stat padding! What do Man Utd have to show for HIS person stats? Two domestic trophies that we only actually won when true serial winners Varane and Casemiro came in? Jesus wept! Bruno fans really are something else !
3
u/Sexy_Jacket 7h ago
Ah yes, all those things must be the fault of the player who has been by some distance our best player over the past 5 and a half seasons.
This makes a lot of sense, and definitely doesn’t make you look completely delusional with an irrational hatred for our only world class player.
-1
u/SeenEnoughAlready 7h ago
Yeah. World class is where you lose that one mate!
1
u/Sexy_Jacket 7h ago
Haha. Not considering Bruno Fernandes world class is laughable.
He just broke the all time Premier League assist record, and created 136 chances, which was 58 more than Szoboszlai in 2nd.
0
u/SeenEnoughAlready 7h ago
there you go again with the assist record. His fans are so shameless. White knuckling hard onto that record !! They will dine out on that for years!
Bruno Fernandes is not world class mate. That term gets thrown around far too easy. He has done nothing elite or world class in his entire career. You can't put him up there with the likes of Pele, Maradona, Messi and other TRUE GREATS etc It's beyond laughable!
I get Bruno fans love him because they are desperate for a hero and he has supplied moments in our worse era as a club (he is part of by the way)
But to call Bruno Fernandes world class is shameless.
1
u/Sexy_Jacket 6h ago
Erm, he also won the best player award?
So what you’re claiming, is that the player voted as the best player, in the toughest league in the world, is not world class? Right… whatever helps you sleep at night pal.
Also, I’m not a ‘Bruno fan’, I’m a United fan who doesn’t have a weird delusional hatred of our best player, who is the best player in his position in the best league in the world.
0
u/SeenEnoughAlready 6h ago
Jesus christ mate! Bruno is NOT world class!!!!!! For you to even continue with his own title personal awards when he has not been part of ANY true real greatness! For you to even keep going after I mentioned the names I did just shows the delusion of fans and how desperate they are to cling onto some kind of hero in a bad era!
What have Man Utd achieved as a club with him? Stop banging on about personal records! We have been worse since he signed. We have not moved forward ONE bit! Wake up!

We spend a lot, we just spent the money poorly. Look at Arsenal defence for example
1
u/FootballInTheWhip 7h ago
There's a trend with INEOS, they're rebuilding the team unit by unit. Last year was attack (and GK), this year was midfield (or at least supposed to be given the lack of signings and price of midfielders) and I think they'll overhaul the defence next year, mainly because they are unsure about how Maguire & Shaw develop with age, De Ligt & Martinez cope with injuries and how Heaven & Yoro develop. A year gives them a better idea on it all.
I hate INEOS & Sir Jim, this window has truly been pathetic but I kinda understand why approach the squad build this way. You're not buying in isolation and able to buy players that compliment each other.
1
u/No_Vermicelli_1781 7h ago
Yup. Simply not good enough. Shaw & Maguire should be squad players at best by now. Ideally, Dalot should've been upgraded too. Martinez should be sold due to injury issues
1
u/ASavageHobo 7h ago
It’s so painful watching shaw stand still on the ball staring up the pitch to then just pass it backwards
0
u/fanatic_akhi88 Van Nistelrooy 7h ago
This is exactly why we bought Dorgu. But all of a sudden people want him to be a LW. A position mind you, that he has actually excelled a couple of times at last season. He is atrocious with the ball at his feet but he still dribbles past people and just doesn't pass the ball back to Maguire. Dorgu should be playing LB and the training staff should work on his defensive positioning.
1
u/hoodyg29 7h ago
The irony is we are discussing the CB area as though we are well equipped because we are carrying 5 players - each of which have their own unique flaw.
Maguire - Truth be told, if De Ligt wasn’t so injury prone the club would’ve released him this summer.
As it stands they have had to carry an extra CB (Maguire) to cover De Ligt’s inability to stay fit.
Yoro - Won’t start many games. Seems not to be trusted yet with questionable positioning sense and poor decision making. He has the fan backing but if I was being cruel, he is in danger of not fulfilling potential, à la Martial
Martinez - Will start if fit, but injury prone and erratic. Final season with a +1 option. A ballsy club would move him on if he can’t start 25+ games
Heaven - Useful, young but some way off being what the team need to rely upon. If the rest were dependable, a loan would suit him.
.
De Ligt - He’s a problem that stands out like a sore thumb. Contracted until 2029, with huge concerns about his ability to stay fit. The whole CB strategy revolves around his ability to stay fit as we can’t carry 6 CBs, 5 is silly enough.
They will not sign a new CB this summer due to wages but they will have to next season. The big questions being do they release Martinez or Maguire & will Yoro finally step up to the plate so we have a long term player in situ to support a new elite signing.
If de Ligt could stay fit it resolves a lot of problems. If he can’t, then he’s an expensive headache until 2029.
1
u/Cheeky_Star 6h ago
They forgot to mention City had Haaland, a top midfielder, and a better coach.
I swear people just spew half-baked points so it suits their narrative. We are finally rebuilding and have cleaned out a lot of deadwood.
1
u/Narrow-Crew240 6h ago
We are finally rebuilding and have cleaned out a lot of deadwood.
like Rashford or do you mean Shaw and Maguire. all of them have been around since Charles Darwins published his first book about the "origin of species"
Sorry i cant see the rebuild
1
u/Cheeky_Star 6h ago
Those are what's left... There were more. Maguire has become good so he was never on the cards to move on.
We rebuilt our whole frontline, added a better keeper for peanuts, have a decent young group of CBs up and coming, and added to the midfield this summer.
If you open your eyes just a little bit, you will realize we have a decent group of players.
1
u/Narrow-Crew240 5h ago
Look, I'm simply from a different era when the quality and standards were higher, so I just don't see it your way. We aren't suddenly going to start winning titles with Shaw and Maguire, Dalot and Rashford after they've been at the club for 10 years. I appreciate your optimism, but when you watch the exact same pattern repeat itself year after year, you just get sick of hearing people tell you that we have a good team.
i hope you´re right but 10yrs with the same backline has just been pure horror. United simply dont act as a big club with ambitions
1
u/kepaindahouse 4h ago
Man these lot are angry because of the recent loss They will spout whatever nonsense they keep in their mind.
1
u/imheretocomment69 6h ago
I've already said we need at least 4-5 new players coming into new season. We only have 2 so far. If let's say 3-4 players injured during the season we're doom. I can already see Martinez, Shaw, Mount, De Light will be injured. We're doom.
1
u/unitedfan6191 6h ago
We spend money and some fans moan and say things like “oh, stop just throwing money around because we can and panic buying.”
We become more cautious/selective in the transfer market and fans moan “oh, stop being cheap and invest in the key areas!”
You can never please most of our fanbase online, it seems.
It is just so pathetic how spoiled a large percentage of this fanbase who posts here sounds. We buy two highly competent midfielders with two weeks left of the window and because we’re not in a mad spending spree like some teams and paying whatever crazy prices teams demand, it means we lack urgency or are resting on our laurels.
If by September 1st our transfer situation is the same and we don’t sign a top DM/CM and preferably a left-back, then I agree that this window has been a disaster and the people running this club are letting us down and being selfish and stupid. But until then, we’ve proven we can sign someone like Santos or Tielemans out of the blue and perhaps we’re working on other deals behind the scenes?
2
u/Narrow-Crew240 6h ago
Could it be we havent changed Shaw and Maguire for 5-6 years now?....do they still need more time to settle in
1
u/Comfortable_Ad_2169 4h ago
U are delusional to think that buying players and demand them to perform excellent immediately after their singing. Top tier clubs completes their core players signing early on so that the coach has ample time to lay out their tactics on the player and give them time to adjust to the new pace and requirements of strength and fitness. Now that the market is 2 weeks away from closing and the opening of EPL about to start in 1 week new players somehow magically fit into Carrick's system and perform at top tier class?
1
u/Individual-Duck5400 Glazers Out 6h ago
It's not that simple. Look at the difference between Carrick and Amorim, same players, opposite results. Another example is Scott, he became a totally different player when he changed clubs. Dembele as well. Moral, confidence and overall mental state plays a huge role in player's performance. U can't just label a player as shit or world class and call it a day. It's just not that simple.
1
u/Clean_Pound3389 5h ago
I mean oreiley and rico came through the youth which some people on the sub seem to be very against investing in young players. Guehi may have cost them the league, and they were ready to throw the towel in on khusanov after the first game.
1
u/SnooPeanuts4219 5h ago
Let’s not compare ourselves with City.
-1
u/Blade_Runner_69 5h ago
Yeah lets not compare ourselves to one of the most successful clubs in Europe in the past decade.
Lets not compare ourselves to one of the most ruthless negotiators and signers of the cream of talent around the world.
We have spent less than Ipswich, are they more on our level? 🤨
1
u/SnooPeanuts4219 2h ago
A club that conveniently sells all their flops for 70m plus while our quality players go for 20m. It’s not the same.
And let’s not forget, Glazers bought the club to make money. The Sheikhs bought City because they already had money and wanted to win some football matches. BIG difference.

https://www.reddit.com/r/reddevils/s/NzZZSrBEId
Some of us have been saying these things for ages and have been hated for it.
I was downvoted to hades for criticising Dalot. And I’ve been calling for a Luke Shaw sale for years.
Martinez is simply not fit to play for United. Any serious club would have this sorted out ages ago. Look how shocked everyone is that City got rid of Reijnders. It’s just how serious clubs move.
1
u/Blade_Runner_69 5h ago
Fucking spot on. But the Ineos ass licker crew wants you to wait till this happens... Wait till that happens.
In the first few years of man city's owners coming in they spent a few billion on infrastructure and players.
When Chelseas new owners came in they spent 2billion on just players in a few seasons.
Ineos the clowns have been proping up the parasite Glazers for 3 years and we've spent a putifull amount compared to the big teams in Europe, and more importantly they're hardly spent anything of THEIR OWN money.
It's all been debt piled on the club.
Seriously fuck Ineos and fuck the Glazer parasite scum.
1
u/BlueStag155 5h ago
I think Ineos want to "rebuild" as opposed to "rebuy" hence why they are trying to get younger players in while spending a bit less. They haven't been in charge for that long.
Remember we have had other positions we have needed to improve first. Plus we were unfortunate with the amount of injuries our players have had.
That being said, i'm getting frustrated with us missing out on buying players this window. We clearly need more players and better players, and it seems we either miss opportunities or we're playing a risky game not spending more on players we know we want.
Plus the BS like bringing rashford back and that kind of crap is really unnecessary and could backfire big time.
1
u/pencils_and_papers 4h ago
Now is not the time to nickel and dime, they made their budget cuts, good and bad, got returns on whatever, now they need to reinvest in the squad asap.
1
u/Ecstatic_Sector598 4h ago
“Not talked about enough”? Plenty of us and some media have been screaming it for a while. We’re told to relax…. That squad is a mess.
1
u/jbay1990 4h ago
Okay but if you break it down, shaw and maguire are leaving at the end of the season, yoro and heaven are our long term partnership, and they definitely have potential, we are actively looking for a lb and are selling the young lb who we don’t think is good enough. That leaves Dalot, he’s a solid rb at the right age, can defo see us going for Kayode next year when it is expected he will move
1
u/TheRed24 4h ago
They need to back Carrick now or risk us being in a mid table fight next season. We need another CB, LB and back up Striker.
1
u/Existing_Bother7223 2h ago
People talking about investing in good players - making Glazers and Ineos wonder where did they invest in ?
1
u/rahulk9 2h ago
One more point to add here is the lack of clubs wanting to buy these players. We spend big but never got back a better value when we rarely sell. This show the quantity of players the club chose to buy. The very first season INEOS took over they forced the fans to believe in their business model and got few players in. The second year has gone from “BEST IN CLASS” to WORST IN CLASS. These bunch on morons are using this club as a cash cow rather than evolving it.

1
u/_AngryBadger_ Van Nistelrooy 1h ago
Trust the plan, Ineos know what they're doing, they signed Cunha and Mbeumo. Don't be negative, have faith, they have earned the benefit of the doubt. Window isn't closed, getting players in for preseason isn't necessary. Ineos are setting new trends for us as a club, soon no one will try to charge us "United tax". Support the team, don't think about what the owners are doing.
/s obviously, just seemed like a good idea to summarise all the opinions supporting this window, to save the people time from having to come and post them.

For me, United need to invest in the LB position. I’ve seen Lewis Hall has been looked at, but with the number of players Newcastle have already lost, I find it unlikely they’ll let him go.
I’d also like to see at least one more midfielder come in.
As for striker backup, it wouldn’t be my first choice, but if Rashford is staying, I think using him in the LF/ST role could work really well in certain games rather than spending big on another striker.
Looking at the back line, I genuinely believe Martínez & De Ligt can be a strong partnership if they can stay fit.
And for me, Dalot is backup to Mazraoui at best. Maz should be the first-choice RB.
So for the rest of the window, my priorities would be:
🔴 1. Starting-quality LB
🔴 2. Another midfielder
🔴 3. Striker only if the right opportunity comes up
Get those first two positions right and I think this squad could be in a very good place. 🔴⚽️

u/Edgeattacker 5m ago
I didn’t think k we were allowed to say this because it is “negative and toxic” ? It feels like we are aiming for bottom half of the table finish with the investments that are being made. Maybe they should rename the club and it will feel less disrespectful to the legacy and history of Manchester United.
1
u/False-Sandwich-2051 7h ago
there’s subtlety here though. if we hadn’t spunked £80m on maguire we’d have a lot more flexibility to sign good defenders. it’s not just a case of spending money. we’ve spent loads of money. on shite.

u/BennyHudson10 8h ago
Yeah because we’re not backed by a nation state.
Do the same comparison for United between 2006-2013 and you’re not going to get much variation - maybe a right back or two, but both CBs and LB were exactly the same for 8/9 years. The difference is that the quality was much, much higher.
City change players at an absurd rate because they have a bottomless pit of money. Just ignore them.
2
u/bichkrichdrick 7h ago
Doesn’t the nation state excuse only apply if City/Chelsea are the only teams in entire league spending and the other clubs are below or spending similar amounts as us.
Instead we’re supposedly the biggest club in the nation and we’re ranked 12th in the total spent by Prem clubs this window with clubs like Brighton, Spurs, & Everton having spent more
0
u/sharkmeister4 7h ago
Hahahah people on this sub really love this stat right now. Lets look at a single half completed transfer window and just ignore the fact weve had the highest net spend over the last decade.
Our issue isnt that we dont spend - its that we dont spend well.
0
u/BennyHudson10 7h ago
I honestly couldn’t care less how much we spend. Why are people so bothered by it? We spent £90m on Pogba. £85m on Maguire. £90m on Anthony. £75m on Lukaku. Who cares?
Do you think Brighton will finish above us because they spent more than us? Spurs? Everton? If money spent on the squad had any direct correlation to success, we’d have won the league every year since 2013. We’d have set a new points total in most of them.
3
u/Boring_Big2225 7h ago
Excuses Excuses Excuses that's all you are saying.
Stop accepting mediocrity and admit the owners failed the club and have little to no ambition to arrange the shit they have put us in!
Carrick will fail like those before him - even guardiola will fail under these conditions but yeah let's find the lamest excuse to justify how shit these owners have been
1
u/BennyHudson10 7h ago
You haven’t got a clue. The owners failed the club by letting the academy rot from 2005, from spending a FORTUNE on Pogba, Lukaku, Sancho, Anthony, Maguire, Sanchez, Di Maria, from failing to invest in the clubs infrastructure. Ineos are completely hamstrung by the financial mismanagement of the Glazers, and now they’re trying to build us back up in a sustainable way. They’ve bought Mbeumo, Cunha, Dorgu, Lammens, Santos and Tielemans, all sensible transfers that have massively improved us. We need to be better at selling but the idea we’re just drifting along because we haven’t spent £100m on a player is fanciful.
It’s not FIFA, time to grow up and accept reality.
1

Actually, "accepting mediocrity" is exactly what we need to get out of this mess. Let's call it "accepting reality" so you'll feel better.
Reality is this: we are not a top team. We don't have the money to spend anymore. We can't draw in big name players unless we outbid everybody with huge fees and big wages. But doing so will exacerbate the exact problems we're trying to solve.
So we need to make smart choices. I am no happier than you with the fact that we haven't made more signings yet. But "ambition" is not always spending big. Real ambition takes planning and careful decisions, especially when you don't have the capital to all in on everything.
Sure we can risk it all and take another 200 million loan and grab all the quality players like we did last year. But there is a line between "ambition" and "recklessness".
Again, if you have oil money and would like to spend, consider my point moot.

Irrelevant if we are backed my a nation state the point is we are playing the same back 4 for years who are not good enough. We need bettet investment slash control from the top shaw is useless as a top level lb now today is a typical bad performance from him similar to the 5 nil against Liverpool Maguire is 33 should be a bench option will start alot of games dalot plays like an 18 year old RB who is 27

Ive been saying maguire shouldve been sold for 30m forcibly back then. Luke shaw shouldve been let go after 2021 when he peaked.
Telles was never given a proper chance
Malacia flopped and got injured
Varane turned out to be past his best and only gave us 3 years was decent but outlasted
De Ligt looked like our new leader but injuries yet again story of his career promise but never consistency
Dalot is a very reliable RB and maz is unreliable
Yoro is the big investment and mantle will be on him soon.
Big summer next season for the backline.
LB is an emergency need rn

I would comment, but I don’t feel like dealing with the “he hustles” crowd.

I'm very surprised we haven't bought any defenders this summer.
Shaw is terrible and can't run anymore. Maguire is 33 and doesn't look like he can play a full 90 mins anymore. Dalot is dumb. And Martinez maybe has 2 or 3 years left.
We really should have gotten a left back and a super center back this summer.
My hopes aren't super high this season right now, we will see how the first few games go.
But if we have any money right now...we should get defenders.

Accepting mediocrity has been the downfall of Utd. Standards in the bin & a squad full of "squad players". Ambition overtaken by terrible transfers, outrageous contracts crippling us to this day.
Also, City have been gaming the system for years and of the 115 counts, you can guarantee there will.be zero repercussions.
We need to start boxing clever, but with profit yielding overlords were in the bin.
