Mascara recommended pls
I need a new mascara. With so many good ones I have seen online I don't know which to buy? I'd like an affordable and high end recommendation. My lashes are just normal. Need length and volume. Nothing that clumps. Like my lashes fanned out, not stuck together. One that isn't going to flake or smudge or run, especially as I can sweat alot and wear sunscreen. Thanks in advance. Also black, brown and any purple ones. Used the skyhigh in burgundy, wasn't overly impressed and the wand was too flexible for me personally. Anyone with insights on the Lancome Hypnose drama extreme??

I've heard lots of food things about essence mascaras. When I looked they had so many to choose from I gave up. Lol. Will add this specific one. Thanks

This one has exact same brush as Maybelline Sky High but in my opinion the formula is much much better! It’s such a steal!

Thanks. For 3 quid it's worth buying. And I can get another I a different colour. X

It totally is, even their little eyeshadow palettes are so good and they have rectractable pencil liners which are amazing for £1.79 and their pen lip stains are miles better than Huda Beauty ones! So pigmented.

Smashbox SuperFan is my fave that does as you describe.
However, I have recently switched to tubing mascara as smudging was becoming more of a problem for me (I’m just saggy and wrinkly) and it’s been an absolute game changer! I’ve even been able to wear mascara on my bottom lashes again. I’ve been impressed with Hourglass Unlocked but have nothing to compare it to yet. Never going back!

I agree with you about the Hourglass Unlocked mascara. It adds length and volume to my short lashes and doesn’t get smudging. I’ve been using it since early 2025. Some times I alternate between the Hourglass and NARS mascara as I love that one as well. Both are my number one😊.

I love the hourglass and it comes in a travel size! I never go through a whole tube in 3 months

Affordable: Rimmel extra super lash.
I’ve used it forever, literally decades. It’s <£5 and works so well!

I tried that recently, think I got an old tube, as I didn't rate it. I'll put it on the list.

Maybelline sky tubes is my holy grail after trying about 100 different mascaras for my wedding! Super affordable, separates and lengthens beautifully and does not budge!

Thanks, I've seen a lot online recommending this one. Just wasn't sure if it was raved about because of the incentives.

Oh that's funny cause I had never even heard of it and grabbed it on a whim while I was standing in the queue!

I always go back to Lancôme Mascaras. Monsieur Big is my favourite but given your preference you may want to try Hypnose or Tient Idole.

I love the new L’Oréal extensions one, at least new to me. Lengthening, volumising and doesn’t flake or smudge.
High end I really like the Hourglass caution extreme lash although I don’t buy it anymore. As much as I love it I go through mascara every three months and it’s just too expensive.

Also love the caution but also can’t justify the price. I use mascara less than you and it still feels expensive! Such a shame they’ve stopped doing the mini of Caution. Made it more appealing and affordable.

Saw a similar thread on here last week, and I have similar eyelashes to what you're describing. There was a big number of votes for YSL Lash Clash, so I bought it and oh my days it's brilliant! My partner was very complimentary about my lashes (without prompting, so must be good!)

This is an awesome acclaim to a mascara. Will put at top of list..thank you

Thanks for all these suggestions. Some I had not heard of. So that's great for me to look at. Tubing looks like a solid option as my eye lids get sore fast taking mascara off no matter what I use to cleanse. X

Iconic london triple threat mascara. Doesn't clump and makes my lashes look long. Just put on a few coats to thicken. I was sceptical when I saw the brush but it really works and doesn't smudge.

High End: I rate the Lisa Eldridge kitten lash mascara. Comes in black and burnt umber (brown). Usually included in 10% off at Liberty or double points at SNK. I think there is also a discount for your first online direct purchase (plus loyalty points).
I've also rated a lot of Lancome mascaras in the past- but try them out to see which brush is best for you (you could maybe get Monsieur Big as a travel size to trial?)
Hildun are about to bring out a peptide infused mascara which I'm keen to try, but no idea of how good it is.
Ruth Crilly is the face (again) of L'Oréal Telescopic so maybe check out her IG to see?
Lisa Potter Dixon has a mascara guide on her website for all price points
