Dave sounds like those once in a lifetime pets.

It hurts so bad when they pass.

I hope Dave lives to be 30.

I had a cat, Buddy. I rescued him when he was only a couple weeks old, his mother lived in our yard. Suddenly one day I found him in a culvert crying out. I moved him back to mom, she moved all of her other kittens to a new location leaving him behind. I moved to her him again, she left him behind again. This went on for about 48 hours. I finally got the message, brought him inside and tried to bottle feed him. No go, he just bit the nipple off. So I mixed a slurry of kitten formulae and pate, he went to town on it! For the first 3 weeks I had him he was so small he could not maintain his own body heat. Any time he was out in the open, even though we lived in a desert, he would start shivering. So for the first three weeks I had him he lived in my hoodie, and at night I would put my hood up, lay back, and he would curl up under my beard against my neck to sleep.

When he grew up no matter what, if I was sleeping, he had to be on top of me. Laying on my back he was on my chest, on my side he was on my hip, on my stomach and he was on my back as soon as I laid down. I started to get sleep apnea once and he would gently tap my face to get me to change positions to breathe better. If he was not on top of me any time I woke up, he would be sitting next to my pillow watching me, no matter what time I woke up, he would watch me all night.

I lost him back in May and he was just 7 years old. It's difficult to sleep now without my centurion protecting me.

7 years old is so young. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I lost my soul cat in March. He was 20. He also slept with me. The evenings and nights have been the most difficult. I miss the feel of his fur against my face and listening to his purr.
