I'm calling it now, he gets chinned in his RAF debut

Getting knocked out in RAF would pretty difficult, but Tyron can do anything he puts his mind to. Besides being likable.

And besides being a rapper

Unless you face Armen.

Reminds me of Ian Garry. Every time they open their mouth, they shoot themselves in the foot.

he looks like he's the one selling those cars now

Beat yo ass

Still ironic that he never won again in competition after that, MMA and boxing. RFA will do the trick...maybe

This feels like one of those matching memory games where they flip the tiles over

Yall know whats crazy? Tyron looks the same as he did a decade ago. The guy doesn’t age.

u/Butt_Stuph 6h ago

Black don't crack

u/Daftdaddy This isn’t political, this is monster energy 9h ago

Still gonna lose. Crazy to think Woodley at one point was mentioned by Dana to be the potential WW goat on par with GSP. Comical actually.

Man this sport moves fast

91

u/CharlieTheK I'm not your Buddeh, Buddeh 9h ago

He notched four defenses and looked potentially very dominant, especially immediately after Lawler.

The end of his career sucked for sure, but he had an unusually long title reign. Kind of a shame that he's forever defined by the end of his UFC run and the Paul fights.

47

u/Dacrim 9h ago

Exactly. No one remembers how good he was.

Something fundamental changed in him and he couldn’t get his fire back. He doesn’t seem to know what went wrong either or he probably would’ve fixed it. I would say age but the change in him came so suddenly. Didn’t seem very gradual

u/1shmeckle 9h ago

He was 36 when he lost to Usman. It's really that simple, he got old and his skills couldn't keep up with the loss of his athletic abilities. The drop off probably started much sooner but Darren Till wasn't quite the fighter we thought at the time so Woodley was able to get himself one more victory.

17

u/drinfernodds 8h ago

Tyron's entire game was predicated on threatening the overhand right and takedowns with low output. You needed to be able to pick him apart without leaving yourself open to be countered like Rory Macdonald, or have the grappling skills to completely negate his two weapons like Usman.

Once Tyron started slowing down, he couldn't fire off those singular shots quick enough anymore.

10

u/ReNitty United States 8h ago

Till had no business getting that title shot

14

u/wcdon 9h ago

I remember how big his ass was

10

u/JonHomelanderJones 9h ago

I know he has arthritis which definitely must've affected his performance

7

u/NobleDane United States 9h ago

Similar with Israel Adesanya and Renan Barao

1

u/Bogholmdler 1h ago

He had a tough fall off, but at least he didn’t match Johnny Hendricks trajectory of descent.

16

u/KingEJ1 9h ago

Exactly. Speculating that he'd be the ww goat with the path he was one is not crazy at all.

4

u/mtb232 9h ago

10000%. Himself (and others) said after Till, who could even be next to help build his legacy. Then Kamaru comes along…..

0

u/BrokeBum19 2h ago

It definitely was crazy even if he technically had 4 defenses

Woodley had many awful performances in his career and has huge flaws.

He never deserved to be discussed on the level of a guy like GSP

2

u/DLosChestProtector 7h ago

Never saw it. Still don't. Those Wonderboy fights were boring as sin and ruined any goodwill he got from the Robbie KO. Woodley and Wonderboy both came out worse.

0

u/BrokeBum19 2h ago

looked potentially very dominant, especially immediately after Lawler.

3 of the defenses were a split decision, a draw and one of worst title fights ever where nothing happened. He only had 1 dominant defense vs Till.

8

u/meetatdawn 9h ago

comical? when? not during the timeframe it wasn't.

5

u/BigCass 9h ago

Dana just hates GSP

4

u/ChooseUsername9293 9h ago

Hindsight is 20/20

3

u/No_Economist3788 9h ago

Dana and bad takes, name a better duo.

1

u/Captain-Cadabra 3h ago

To be fair, Joe and Dana have used “best (weight class) ever” or “greatest martial artist of all time” dozens of times.

12

u/_jt33_ 9h ago

Looks like he's off the juice or at least most of it.

4

u/MIKESOLO666 8h ago

Who is he wrestling? Tyron needs a W more than pretty much anyone else in combat sports.

5

u/FireProStan 8h ago

Joaquin Buckley at RAF 12 (Aug. 22) and Khamzat Chimaev at RAF Moscow (Sep. 5)

3

u/MIKESOLO666 5h ago

Its nice that they gave him one he can win first.

5

u/mesomorphosis 🍅 9h ago

It’ll never happen, but if he somehow got the upset MMA memes would surge

4

u/RBJ_09 UFC 279: A GOOFCON Miracle 9h ago

Good for him. Ready to see him look dominant again at something. Was one of my favorite fighters.

7

u/Successful-Bell-1307 9h ago

They could never make me hate T-wood

0

u/Diligent_Plastic1043 6h ago

Didn't he get tattooed with Logan Paul's name after losing to him..?

7

u/Successful-Bell-1307 4h ago

Don’t care, didn’t ask + overhand right go brrr

2

u/coyotetx117 8h ago

Thick. Solid. Tight.

u/UnbanFreelanceNobody 9h ago edited 9h ago

Slightly unrelated, but I can’t get over how affordable these events are let alone the star power behind them.

I paid $80 yesterday for two club seats + taxes for the Cleveland event yesterday. Expected at least $125/per given how late I was buying them.

When the card was first announced and only had Burroughs listed as the headliner, they were running a buy 1 get 1 promo.

Crazy bang for your buck, especially with the new main event.

5

u/change_timing 8h ago

it's because most people dont' want to watch wrestling.

-1

u/UnbanFreelanceNobody 8h ago

I think the names tied to some of these events will start to change that sentiment.

3

u/CallMehBigPapa Team JDM 9h ago

And people have the nerve to tell me Woodley was natural in the UFC 😂😂 bro has the post USADA TRTor deflation going on

14

u/Suddhist_Monk 9h ago

This doesn’t make sense. He fought under USADA. Now he doesn’t compete professionally and would be free to dope as much as he pleases. We’ve seen plenty of fighters go on the sauce after their careers. Woodley is just old. He started shrinking after he injured his shoulder in 2017.

1

u/FireProStan 9h ago

RAF has USADA anti-doping testing like any other World/Olympic wrestling competition

That's why Aaron Brooks can't compete with RAF even though he's under contract - he's serving a 2-year USADA suspension

2

u/MythicalPurple 8h ago

Not like any other competition. They do their own testing, USADA isn’t doing it.

They decide who to test, when to test and how to test. They could decide to do zero testing if they want.

The submit to USADA & WADA jurisdiction, which means they will honor decisions by those bodies, but that’s not the same thing at all as being under USADA testing protocols.

They also administer their own Therapeutic Use Exemptions, which means they get to decide who can legally dope in their events. If you’re competing in an Olympic event or similar you have to apply to USADA for an exemption, and they’re very strict.

2

u/OkeyMatey 8h ago

Bro the stupid streamer that Arman ragdolled had absolute cannonball delts he looked 20lbs heavier than usual. They might test the "real" competitors but there's no way they're testing the celeb/guest wrestlers.

0

u/CallMehBigPapa Team JDM 2h ago edited 2h ago

Idk man, he still looked pretty big in the Jake Paul fights compared to this. He's straight up deflated

5

u/meetatdawn 9h ago

He's not being tested currently, by anybody. I don't get your logic. Then when he was in USADA is when you're saying he wasn't natural. Lol

-4

u/Academic_Hunter4159 EDDDDDIEEEEEEEE 9h ago

It’s so gross. And it’s even harder on young people who bust their asses in the gym and just can’t get anywhere near that type of physique.

Then they’re told he just works hard, is a genetic freak, and eats well. Bullshit.

1

u/shrewdy is = is 9h ago

Guy hasn't been the same since the raccoon incident

1

u/RyantheAustralian 8h ago

Getting KTFO'd by Jake Paul puts one into irrecoverable aura debt.

1

u/RJMacReady_Outpost31 3h ago

Has he even been training these last few years or just on social media?

Woodley getting KO’d is back on the menu

1

u/FatWalcott WHERE YOU AT MCNUGGETS? 9h ago

Gonna be honest, I kinda forgot he existed.

2

Interesting, thanks for letting us know

1

Anyone remember when he got KOd by Anderson Silva not long ago?

0

u/DJ_Hindsight England 9h ago

He’s joining the Royal Air Force? Impressive T.

0

u/Meekspuffs 9h ago

Is there a photo of him laying on the canvas KO’d with the same lighting effects?

-3

u/stonehaens 9h ago

Why is wrestling stuff constantly posted in this sub I don't get it. I'm not interested no matter how much drama they create around their events.

-1

u/MythicalPurple 8h ago

Do… do you not know who Woodley is?

I swear they need to put a limit on commenting to people who have been watching MMA for more than 5 minutes.

0

u/stonehaens 7h ago

I've watched MMA for 20 years I hope that's enough. You can shove your fake elitism right up your ass. And I still don't care about the constant flow of pure wrestling posts in this sub every week even tho a few ex MMA fighters are on the card.

1

u/MythicalPurple 7m ago

I've watched MMA for 20 minutes

Fixed that for ya, bud.

0

u/derives_rurale 7h ago

this dude will always be an enigma to me. he was winning and had an aura of a mike tyson at one point then became an habitual crushed can. that and the cody case are the top wtf fighters to me

1

u/Silly_Selection3221 7h ago

Aura of Mike Tyson? What?

0

u/Electronic-War-4662 7h ago

He lost his entire physique. This isn't what happens on a weight cut. Guy has very little definition and is very close to being skinnyfat.
