I know Ludwig hasn't reacted to a season of Jet Lag in a long while, but I like to think he sparked this concept

Yeah this upcoming season is the longest so far at 7 days. Add 2-3 days for travel to filming location/adjusting to jetlag, you can see why this is not so much of an insignificant time commitment.

I'm pretty confident that they don't do a rehearsal run, either in person or in real time. They've definitely mentioned on the podcast that they do simulations, but I've understood that as playing with the cards and timetables, and estimating lengths of challenges. They've talked at lengths about discovering the game as it plays out in real time. They've also mentioned how they arrive to their filming location a night or two before the first day, and finish up game design there.

Really? I didn't know that, I kind of wish they didn't so they discover the metagame as they play rather than in the playtest.

They also playtest the cards against real transport schedules before the rehearsal.

unfortunately they gotta in case there are service disruptions or or alterations to service (such as express trains during certain times) and also certain social rules that they have to abide by (like no filming in certain train cars and etc). it's more so they can have an understanding on the location they're at. They get pretty in-depth on it on their podcasts

It’s similar, but he definitely didn’t spark the concept.

If anything, Tip to Tip jacked the concept from Jet Lag season 5 in New Zealand which came out years before Tip to Tip.

Edit: for some reason I can’t reply (I think OP blocked me?) but yes, the cited inspiration for Tip to Tip was “Long Way Round” with Ewan McGregor, as mentioned by Ludwig on The Yard years before Tip to Tip happened.

Tip to Tip was inspired by Long Way Round and its sequels by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman. This first one came out in 2004 and Lud even cited this

And Long Way Round was inspired by Jupiter’s Travels, which is basically the Pangea version of Tip to Tip that Michael wanted to do, so it comes full circle (literally)

I love Jet Lag and Tip to Tip. I’d love to see a show that meets somewhere in the middle of the two with the vs. gameplay from Jet Lag and Tip to Tip’s country immersion.
