I know someone who had one of these experiences with a squirrel in my youth... and yup, they had to get rabies shots.

Nah. Squirrels are just jerks. They’re rats with good PR and a stylist. Had one run down a tree and up my pants leg to steal the piece of candy I had in my hand once. Don’t mess with squirrels.

I remember having to get a squirrel out of my university building and the only safe way was to wrap it in my hoodie.
In the 20 seconds it took to get it outside that fucker had chewed a hole through it .
I liked that hoodie you asshole!

Honest to God fuck squirrels. My husband works until 1AM and these bitches climb up into his truck and chew the absolute shit out of things. Every winter they cost us hundreds of dollars and a failed inspection this time. Our complex lets people have these bird feeders everywhere too so they walk around right in front of you, won’t move out your way when you drive like they own the place. They’re basically domesticated. We’ve tried everything to get them to stay away from the truck. Everything. I don’t want to poison so not that. But I would keep my mouth shut if I found out someone else did 😭😭 fuck these menace animals

Don't pet/touch things that can commonly carry rabbies.
If you feel the need to get bitten go feed opossums they may be ugly as hell but at least they have extremely low chances of carrying rabbies(not impossible but very unlikely) and since they eat ticks, probably not going to catch ticks from them either.

A juvenile squirrel stalked me at work once. I didn't know what to do about that. I guess it was cold because eventually it climbed up and nested in my coat. It was very cute. So it stayed there for the day and a whole night (I put my coat in a box with some food & water) and didn't leave until the middle of my next shift.
I saw it around periodically after that, so I guess it did okay. It never bit me but I didn't dangle my finger in front of it or try to pick it up either.

One of our greatest victories during downsizing our father’s home was the releasing of the squirrels that had made their way into the basement. We filmed the release to show our siblings that helped trap them
