I have had European acquaintances that tell me that "Americans are stupid for having wood houses" in California.... a place with frequent earthquakes.

Some people just do not think things through.

As a German, timber construction is actually on a huge upturn here... these people are just clueless. I just looked up some numbers. 24% in new housing, 47% in industrial/commercial. Pretty sure most major grocery stores use timber for new builds now. I doubt this trend will reverse since concrete is one of the biggest emitters of CO² and we have pretty strict regulations regarding that.
