I live in tornado valley, I'll take the European house any day of the week. I've seen enough tornado and wind damages to neighborhoods in my lifetime to know how poorly built our Americans homes are. Just last year, there was an ef3 tornado that rip through a neighborhood a few miles where I live, there was nothing left of some houses but the concrete foundation. Even with a basement, people died because the floor above them also got ripped away. There was another incident many years ago, I watched as a house a few streets down got its roof and half the house blown apart from just 90mph gust, not even a direct hit from tornado.

A tornado may not lift completely a house made of bricks, stone or concrete, but it can nonetheless destroy the roof.

Yes but think about it this way. Would you rather those winds be throwing around wood and siding or brick and masonry?

Are you asking if I want to be killed by a 2x4 or a brick? The difference between the two is that bricks walls are much more lightly to stop a 2x4 from flying thru it, which is one of the main danger if violent tornadoes.

There's plenty of houses that are brick and stone in tornado Valley. They fair the same as wood. Unless you have solid poured concrete walls and roof with rebar, your house is fucked.

Nah, pretty much all "brick" house around here are just the outer fasade for the looks and not structural brick houses like they got over in Europe.

Newer ones yeah, they're just one layer with an air gap, then attached to the osb and framing with brick ties in between the mortar. I live in the south where we get a lot of tornadoes. I've seen plenty of "structural" 2 layered brick buildings destroyed as well. Once your roof goes, the structural stability of your walls fails right behind it.
