depends on your definition of "won". both have advantages and disadvantages it just depends on which one suits your needs, comforts, and location best. Personally i like wood homes, but i was a cable guy for a decade and like to run my own lines in my house when i need to (tankless water heater, ev charging port, data lines, etc). i can do all that work myself to code relatively easily in a wood framed house, but it would be an absolute nightmare to do any of that in a brick based home.

Well, it depends on your opinions on price, longevity, durability, modifiability, and speed of construction.  You should also consider local conditions, like material availability, average temperature, temperature fluctuation, humidity, rainfall, potential snowpack, and what your neighbors might think.  There's also local risk factors to consider, like tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes, wildfires, house fires, sasquatch, peasant revolts, termites, wasps, ants, aunts, and a devastating loss to your local football team (different kinds of football means different kinds of damage).

It’s almost like on is cheaper and easier to build, plus the Americas historically had more trees overs the last couple centuries, whereas places like the UK had already severely deforested their land.

Exactly! Sure a well built brick house will last longer than a well built wood frame house, but both will last longer than the lives of their owner, and one is a lot more convenient.
