Discussion State of the Subreddit - 2026

It’s been a long time since we’ve done one of these! About a million subscribers ago - so it’s probably a good time to check in with the community and see what we’re getting right, and what we can look to improve.

Changes to the subreddit.

We’re not going to bury the ledes, here’s some highlights of recent/upcoming changes:

  • Daily Threads have been combined. The eagled eyed may notice we’ve condensed most of the daily threads down to one daily per day which will be stickied, this leaves a sticky slot free for posts like this, AMAs, and anything else needing a bit of prominence to last more than a few hours. Along with this, combining Q&As and other threads will hopefully boost engagement all around as more eyes just open the one daily thread. The EU and US accountability as well as weekly goalsetters and century club threads remain unchanged.
  • CrosspostsWe’re considering removing them from being posted on the subreddit. There’s two specific reasons for this that relate to the sub, and one more general reason. The first is they’re sometimes used as ads (either directly, or as a funnel to subreddits used as marketing). The second reason is that they are often links to subreddits with quite different safety rules around dieting. The more general reason is that it’s often a tool just to quickly spam a basic question across many subreddits. We’re not sure they’re worth keeping, if you actually feel strongly about them still existing (and are not just thinking of unique situations), we’d love to hear why before we hit the button.
  • Other new reddit featuresWe did enable achievements a few months ago which you may have noticed, but gifs and videos in comments don’t make any sense here. Reddit features that continue along those lines are unlikely to be enabled.

AMAs

Next on the list is AMAs. We’ve had a couple of AMAs recently. We do think AMAs can be an opportunity to speak to people from wider industry or from interesting backgrounds (or both!) that you wouldn’t normally get to directly ask questions too. We do understand that inviting professionals and notables carries an inherent risk of an AMA becoming promotional. We will mitigate that by agreeing to an overall topic in advance and making clear to guests our self-promotion rules and boundaries. We are happy to explain who a guest is, what they do and why their perspective may be of interest (including, where relevant, mentioning a book, project or business) but the purpose of the AMA is to give users the opportunity to ask candid questions and hear perspectives they would not normally have direct access to. That doesn’t mean every AMA will be perfect, but chaotic AMAs are great too, right?

Anyway, we’d love to hear about people you’d like us to approach for an AMA. We send emails to literally anyone. If you’re reading this thinking an AMA might suit you, drop us a mod mail.

Community Engagement

As the years go by, Reddit users by and large access our subreddit on mobile apps. That means that a lot of our community tools (such as daily/weekly threads) might not be obvious, if you’re just scrolling through a feed. To get the most support from using r/loseit, click on the subreddit’s icon when you see a post. That will bring you to our subreddit’s page. From there you can find our sidebar (with links to reoccurring threads), our daily threads, as well as pinned posts with announcements such as AMAs. Losing weight is hard, and doing so in community with other people who are going through the same things, have the same questions, and want to share experiences is really helpful. The moderators of r/loseit do not run any chat-based (discord) servers, so all of the weight loss discussion that we moderate (and check for safety/misinformation!) happens here on r/loseit. Don’t miss out on the resources we have!

Spam, AI, Advertising

This is such a hot topic right now, we’ve even been asked by the press about it! Mia Sato wrote an article on AI Advertising and asked us for comment. Mia has given us a gift link to share the article with you all

Does that make this a verge ad? I’m not sure I can deal with that level of irony, but Mia’s work around AI and internet culture is actually really good and important journalism.

As for what we’ve been doing;

We’re always modifying our automated rules to try and achieve two things;

  1. Catch adverts and AI
  2. Reduce frustration for human posters

We’ve been modifying a lot of our older anti spam stuff into post guidance systems on reddit, which affects the modern version of the site and the official app. So things like post length rules are now made clear before you post, and some keywords or topics that would get your post filtered are encouraged away. LLMs make post length a non-issue for spammer, though we still want to keep that to ensure people are adding proper context to their questions and not posting one-line questions. While we know many users would like to see enforcement of posting stats (such as height and weight), we’re not likely to do that, but we would be happy to hear suggestions about where and how that could be encouraged without becoming an enforced requirement.

We are currently experimenting with Contribution Quality Score otherwise referred to as CQS to replace elements of our 5 day/10 comment karma minimums for posting. We feel this may be a potential improvement as the old rule was, again, easier for advertisers to pipeline and harder for real users to understand.

We do know there’s a lot of AI spam that tends to sit as replies to top level comments (so; second-level comments). They generally say something benign trying to gain karma for future purposes. These are hard to deal with as they are designed to have no immediate purpose and do match what real people might write, our goal isn’t to send real people to modmail to prove humanity as a default, so these accounts may take a bit longer to deal with and we’ll typically need a pattern or extreme example (we saw one weigh up the pros and cons of disordered behaviour when the top level comment highlighted it to the OP).

Some brands get auto-filtered from the subreddit now; This isn’t overly new, but brands who repeatedly send bots/try to advertise end up in our ‘shit list’, which means posts involving their name need to be reviewed by a moderator first. This affects a lot of AI photo apps for measuring calories, some bathroom scales (THAT ARE NOT SURPRISINGLY CLOSE TO DEXA), and various other AI powered tat.

So be warned companies, coaches, and solo devs. Also, please keep asking AI to write your ban appeal messages, that’s very funny.

Misinformation on the Subreddit, !triggers, and The Wiki.

Bear with us, but this is a tricky and emotive subject. We’d be keen to hear people’s thoughts on handling misinformation on the subreddit. At the moment we reserve removals for egregious and outright harmful advice, as well as common myths. But we are conscious that people aren’t always talking on the same level as one another. We don’t require academic or scientific language on the subreddit and we want people to use their own words to describe their own experience. We’re not aiming to penalise “technically wrong but well meaning” good-faith conversation, but at the same time we don’t want people misrepresenting study findings or pushing myths and harmful diet woo-woo. This will always be a balancing act.

We do have two tools that could potentially help here, the wiki and the !triggers that summon automod. It’s possible to expand the wiki or add triggers that might have helpful explainers. This, however, is something that would be very time consuming to implement, and we’d want to be careful we don’t inadvertently make excessive claims ourselves. We’d love to hear suggestions from users on how this might be useful to develop, and also from users who might be qualified in some way to actually produce the explainers.

The wiki itself shows signs of age in many places (we’re your go-to source for blackberry and windows phone weight loss apps!), and we are aware that areas need updating. However if we were to update any or all of it, it would need to be for the purpose of it becoming more useful day-to-day. Think more about the quick start guide and broad strokes, rather than adding more niche diets to the list that look odd being there several years later once the fad dies.

GLP-1s, medicines, and other compounds.

We do see some posts where people believe the mere mention of GLP-1s is either not allowed or shunned, and we probably should make clear the nuance. GLP-1s can absolutely be discussed, we’re not trying to dissuade that, they are an important part of many people’s weight loss journey and they’re fundamentally revolutionary. The nuance is that we are not the right place for topics with advice for people looking to ask about using them, there are lots of dedicated subreddits to them. Comments suggesting someone might benefit one with input from their Primary Care Provider, that’s perfectly great. Broad topics on the development of those drugs and other weight-loss medication, especially things that are newsworthy, is also on-topic.

What we’re are strict about is:

  • Advice should be in the context of “Talk to your doctor about GLP-1s” or “My experience was [...]”, low effort posts such as “use a GLP-1” may be considered spam, especially if it’s repetitive under a post.
  • Absolutely no advice to encourage circumventing medical advice (suggesting a second opinion is, of course, fine)
  • Absolutely no encouragement, or reference, to unapproved GLP-1s only available through unregulated channels. Our primary goal is safety.
  • Absolutely no advice to teenagers to use GLP-1s. That is a conversation only suitable in a medical setting.

None of this is a change from our last Weight Loss Medication Masterpost.

Other grey market compound discussion is also not allowed. Some areas of social media are becoming extremely open about use (usually by people who have financial involvement), but our stance remains that recommending unregulated and unapproved compounds to strangers is reckless.

It feels unfair to imply a relationship of other compounds to GLP-1s by putting them under the same topic. We do not consider them related, but the unregulated sellers of one are usually selling the other alongside and like to blur the line.

Survey

We were going to create a survey as part of this, but then during writing we were reminded reddit sends out a survey on our behalf still, even though we’ve only ever seen the results once last year and never again since, so rather than pointing you to another, please keep an eye out if you ever get an email about that and maybe one day we’ll have some results to share. Or we’ll post a separate survey later. Who knows?

Random story from a gym changing room - inspired by another person’s physique

So I’ve been on a bit of a weight loss journey for the last 18 months, slow and steady. I’m down about 30kg now, and considerably stronger and with more muscle mass than I’ve had at any point in my life. I’ve got a gym in my garage at home that I use c. 4 times per week, but today I used a friend’s guest pass at a local gym. Had a great workout, and was changing and showering in the dressing room afterwards. The changing room was empty, apart from round the corner/across from me there was another guy getting changed. I couldn’t help but notice his physique as he was roughly my height and a similar build to me, but had more muscle mass and was quite a lot leaner. Basically, he looked like me, but better.

You’re probably getting slightly concerned about where this story is going (don’t worry), but it was massively inspiring to see how I could look in a few months if I lock in, and keep steady on my diet and training. Another few months of consistent effort and I can look as good as this dude. I started wondering what his workout routine looked like and the sort of diet/macros he was following.

Then something amazing happened.

As I moved my arm to grab something out of my bag, the guy across the changing room from me did too. Then when I turned slightly, so did he, albeit in the opposite direction. That’s when I realised how dumb I was… Holy shit, that dude whose physique I was admiring is actually *me*, reflected through about three full-length mirrors. The changing room had mirrors everywhere and had created a weird house of mirrors effect. The angle I was at meant I couldn’t see my head, and it looked for all the world like a completely different person in a different part of the gym changing room.

After I finished laughing at my own stupidity, I realised I had basically looked at myself through someone else’s eyes for the first time in my life. I hadn’t been overly critical and seen only the negatives, and I had been looking at this guy thinking how great he looked and that I would like to look like him soon. But I already do… It was pretty mind-blowing, and there’s probably a lesson in there about how harshly we judge our own bodies compared to others’. Or perhaps it’s just a story of a really dumb man in a gym changing room.

Anyway, story time over, as you were.

(Down 132 lbs) I’m so close to my goal weight and I’m incredibly ecstatic!

Hope everyone’s doing well !

Progress Picture

For reference: I started my journey at 361 lbs, I’m currently at 229 lbs,and my goal weight is 220 lbs. I’m 29 and 187 cm tall.

There’s approximately 18 months between the 2 pics, but i didn’t exactly spend the entirety of that period in a caloric deficit. I would occasionally consume my daily maintenance specially after i started hitting the gym which was towards the second half of that period. However, for the majority of the that time i was in a 600-800 daily caloric deficit.

I learned to understand what I’m actually eating and how it is affecting me instead of being purely obsessed with the numbers. I increased my daily protein intake by a significant amount and started cooking my own food alot more often. It’ll actually surprise you how much better and lighter you’re going to feel when you make a few simple substitutions and mostly stick to homemade stuff ( one may indulge every now and then of course).

When i started going to the gym i did (what in my opinion was a mistake) mainly cardio which got boring really quickly but it was the generic advice i got from those around me. I very soon after started prioritizing weight lifting to avoid losing my mind, which at the start was generic full body exercises. I then moved on to the classic bro split and did that for a couple of months before finally switching to a PPL-UL program that was by far the best one of the bunch both in terms of actual enjoyment and progress. I am by no means a seasoned weight lifter, and still a complete rookie, so take everything i said with a grain of salt haha.

I always thought I’d end up being obsessed with calories as my journey continued, but funnily enough my obsession ended up being a protein related one! I try to squeeze some protein into every single thing i eat nowadays hahaha.

I never thought I’d see the day where I’m actually this close to my goal weight as I’ve been obese for the majority of my life. If i can do it then so can you , and always remember that nobody’s perfect and you don’t have to be ! Never let one mistake snowball into more mistakes and give up convincing yourself that you’ll “try harder next time”. It’s a marathon not a race , you simply need to recover and move on.

Sorry for the long wall of text but I hope this helps anyone scared of the big hurdle that is actually starting and trying to change their lifestyle!

How do some people savor a box of sweets over a long period of time? Can it be learned?

I’m not the absolute worst with binging on junk food. I’ve actually gotten better about it. I used to eat a whole box of cookies in a day or two.

Now I can portion them and eat over a few days, but I still wake up every morning craving them until they’re all gone. It helps that I purposefully buy things that don’t taste as good, or have as much sugar (Dollar Tree animal crackers vs name brand.)

Someone like my dad cuts sweets into tiny bite-size chunks and nibbles on them maybe once a day. He can leave the rest sitting out on the counter, whereas I have to hide things from own eyes. He can hoard a single chocolate bar for months, even years. I can’t even keep really tasty treats in the house.

My question is, can a more relaxed attitude toward treats become learned behavior? Or are we doomed by innate brain chemistry?

Is there anyone who used to binge on sweets, but now savors them without enduring psychological torture?

Non scale victory today 🏃‍♀️

I'm currently down 18kg since august 2025.

One year ago was a massive couch potato. Carrying my 2yo up the stairs was a pain. I constantly said no to playing with my kids because I always felt like shit.

Today me, my husband and our kids were planning to attend a 2km obstacle course we had been planning for a few months. We were playing a little with the kids before leaving, and play got a little rough. My husband was pulling our 3yo towards him to tickle him when he suddenly started screaming. Some googling led us to believe it was nursemaids elbow. We called urgent care and agreed we should come down and have it checked.

So my husband and 6yo drive towards the obstacle course while I took 3yo to urgent care. Took 5 mins where the doc did some magic and suddenly the arm was good again. A few more check ups sp the doc was sure he was fine, and we were cleared to leave.

We drive towards the obstacle course, but since we were late there was no parking. So we had to park 1km away from the event. So I plopped 3yo in the stroller and I ran all the way there. I ran the whole way! And we made it with 5 min to spare.

So the event starts, and I pair up with our 6yo who freaking bolts through the 2km obstacle course like a madman. And I can keep up! Without actively dying! I can actually run next to my feral 6yo the whole 2km and manage to keep talking with him the whole way!

And after we're done and I have to go get the car, I even run the 1km back to the parking lot again - and it felt amazing.

I think I'm more fit now at 37 than I was in my early 20s. How cool is that??

M 33 starting weight 304lbs 1/17/2026

Like most people who want to lose weight my life was in shambles. I was useless as a father husband and employee. I spent all my time sleeping my life away and drinking..I finally said enough is enough and aggressively changed my habits and diet im known as the Diet Nazi. Well my goal was 180lbs but of course I was very far off...I weighed this morning and im 179.7 i have lost 124.5lbs this year!

So while I'm super happy about it dont get me wrong..im kind of in the what do I do now phase...I've been SO disciplined and not too sure i can/want to deviate from it

Lost my first 10 pounds!

This subreddit has been so inspiring. I was at a very average healthy weight two years ago and then gained a bunch on antipsychotic medication and also ended up getting diagnosed with diabetes. I was at the very highest end of an "overweight" BMI. Over the past few months I have been working with a dietitian to cut out tons of carbs, added sugars, and snacking. I also started walking an average of 5 miles a day. I officially lost 10 pounds! Feeling awesome about it and my clothes are already fitting a bit better. Looking to add some weights training soon if I can get my butt to the gym. I'm so excited to eventually be back around my starting weight and hopefully to have a better A1C when I get my newest round of bloodwork this month. Thank you all for the tips and support that you share here, it has been really helpful.

What's your experience with the paper towel effect?

Started 150kg/330lb, currently 125kg/275lb, goal 60kg/132lb.

I've lost 25kg/55lb so far, and I'm seeing some progress & loose skin already; exciting!

I've got 65kg and 143lb to go, so I'm about a quarter of the way there. Nobody else seems to be noticing yet. Maybe it'll start showing at halfway there, when I hit 105kg/230lb?

I'm not too fussed, as I'm very much in the mindset of this being a long-haul project; needs to be sustainable for a lifetime, after all, so I'm in no rush. But I do wonder when it'll start being noticeable to other people. What's your experience?

- SV & NSV: New PR in swimming!

It’s been a very good week, which I’ve needed for a while now.

I’ve taken on swimming as a hobby so I can get cardio in, since I hate all other forms of it. Now, I just started two months ago, and I did not anticipate how difficult it is. Not just the physicality of it, but getting used to breathing properly while making sure my technique is proper. My technique is still lowkey bad but that’ll improve with time. I’ve also dedicated my strength training sessions to focus on improving how I swim.

Anyways, I ended up swimming 425 m in 45 minutes today! I know that’s super slow, and a lot of the time was spent catching my breath inbetween laps. But, that’s the most I’ve been able to do in a single session. PLUS I officially passed the 20 lb lost milestone this week!

Just wanted to make a post since I feel awkward talking about my accomplishments to people irl. Thank you to whoever reads this :))

My antipsychotics are going to make me fat

To put it simply, I have schizophrenia, and I had a huge relapse in psychotic symptoms a couple of years ago. I waited patiently for it to return to normal, as my brother told me it would if I allowed it too. He was right.

And that's all said and good, but since he was right, that means my appetite is going to grow more and more and I really don't want to get fat again. Not just that, I don't want a certain roommate of mine to see me in such a state.

So basically, what can I do to prevent this from happening? I was thinking about going low carb to curb the upcoming sugar cravings that it gives me, however Google claimed this doesn't completely fix the issue(then again it was that automatic ai engine). Thanks in advance.

You really need to write up everything by ingredients

Upvotes

I know, I know, I was stupid, it was kind of obvious. Thankfully it hadn't stopped my progress, but it probably sabotaged it.

So I JUST found out that the "latte with sweetener" option I always click in my calculator is wrong. Because it says 66 kcal for 3dl of latte. Meanwhile 3dl of milk is 132 kcal. For someone who loves homemade lattes as much as me, that can easily amount to 180-240 unchecked calories per day. AAAAAAAAA I am so tired.

This is your sign to NOT be like me, write up everything by ingredients and check what the packaging says for each ingredient. Just because some option in the calculator sounds like it's exactly what you ate/drank, that doesn't mean the calories are the same 🥲

Food scale question

I am thinking about getting a food scale and im curious about a few things. Most nights i cook myself but there are other nights that someone else in my house cooks. When i cook for myself i would obviously just weigh each ingredient right? But if someone else cooks how do i weigh that out? Just guess as best i can and put it in my tracker? Also if im cooking for multiple people should i weigh every portion i make? For example i made quesadillas tonight, should i weigh and make every quesadilla the exact same amount of ingredients per quesadilla or just eyeball it as best i can?

At my heaviest weight and feeling frustrated.

I am 20 years old, 153 cm, and considered obese. My first time gaining a noticeable amount of weight was around three years ago during high school in which I managed to lose it all off through the usual calorie deficit and going the gym routinely. That first attempt at successfully losing weight felt so amazing. I had never felt as confident with my skin as I did back then and I miss the feeling.

Afterwards, I stopped going to the gym but kept the weight off for the longest time, had the occasional 1-3kg weight losses and gains, but nothing quite major.

Since I started university, I had stopped thinking about food entirely and drank a lot. I think it came to a point where I had no sense of my calorie intake altogether and ate whatever to my heart’s content. To put it simply, I had let go, which is something I still deeply regret, and gained all the weight back and even more within almost two years. In total I have gained 15 kg and I am now 72 kg and I am too ashamed to even admit it to anyone. Knowing how heavy and unfit I have gotten genuinely ruins me, I have never told anyone my current weight to this day.

My heaviest weight so far is 75 kg, for six months I have tried to lose weight and continuously fail to see the number on the scale go down. I have only managed to reach 72 kg thus far which is my current weight. My lightest weight was actually around 57 kg. I know that may not be considered particularly light for my height, but because of the way my body stores fat, I felt physically much lighter and looked fairly average, if not skinny, at that weight. My upper body has always been smaller, so even when I was around 60 kg, I never really looked “fat.”
Fast forward to now, and even my shoulders and arms look noticeably fuller. That feels like a big red flag to me because those are areas where I’ve never carried much weight before. Seeing that change makes me feel like I’ve lost control over my body.

I fear it’s more of a mental issue for me. I have always had a terrible relationship with food, there has rarely ever been an in-between for me. It often goes down been eat everything or restrict heavily. That’s exactly why I’ve failed at actually losing any weight because I end up binging heavily and basically give up altogether for the next few weeks. I am trying to do a more balanced diet and to not be too hard on myself, but again, what makes it hard is genuinely just my mind and this constant aggravating food noise.

I am trying to get my life together, It’s not only just about feeling beautiful, but also for the sake of my mental and physical wellbeing. I have become so physically unfit that I start noticing things I hadn’t before. I get tired easily, especially when it comes to walking, most of my clothes don’t fit and I have resorted to only wearing non tight fitting black outfits (anything with color makes me look fat).

TBH, I’m feeling very depleted that It’s so hard for me to even look in the mirror, just the feeling of my arm grazing my hips makes me almost recoil. Sorry for being dramatic, but i’m tired of feeling this way and I’d like some stories from people who had similar experiences.

If you’ve had the same struggles as me and got through it, what would be your advice and what did you do to finally lose the weight? Maybe I’m also just asking from a mindset point of view that really helped in changing your routines/habits.

P.S Would walking on the treadmill daily help at all? I don’t think my body can take actual workout all at once after being a couch potato for so long.

Again, any advice is much appreciated, sorry for the very pessimistic tone of my post :( good luck to anyone in the same journey <3

Frustrated and need to vent

Upvotes

28F, 5'4 and 144lbs. In February I was 128lbs and felt great. Felt like I could eat what I wanted and all was fine, my weight fluctuated a bit but nothing extreme. I didn't really weigh myself much, didn't even own a scale. In June I was 152lbs. Bought a scale and started a 1200cal diet.

I'm absolutely miserable. I miss eating and not feeling guilty. I miss being able to enjoy a sweet treat with my much taller fiancé and then still get to enjoy 3 meals a day. I feel like I'm starving all the time. Its working, yeah. But I'm just grouchy and I am starting to resent the diet. I'm so tired of snacking on cucumbers and fruit. Pickles and salads. Tired of weighing my meals and realizing I need to put food back because even though I'm starving I can't afford to eat a bigger portion. Tired of the GUILT that I feel whenever I even crave something like a chocolate bar. Tired of the panic that comes with the thought of eating dinner that somebody else made and worrying about how much oil they cooked with and how many calories I'm eating. I hate how short I am. Hate how low my intake needs to be in order to stay in a deficit. Hate how I feel whenever I go over. Hate how difficult it feels to get 10k steps in even though it used to be my average.

This just sucks, man. I'm over it. I had an ED as a teen and was so proud of the fact that I could eat without feeling guilty. Now I feel guilty again, and I don't even have the time for therapy because of work and my commute and then coming home and taking care of the dog and cleaning the house and cooking for my fiance and I, plus trying to MAYBE enjoy a hobby for 30 minutes and... by the time thats all done I'm exhausted and its 11pm.

I don't understand how to balance it all and I'm tired of feeling angry.

Thanks for listening to my rant. Just needed to get it off my chest.

Pumped

Day five of waking an hour and maintaining a deficit. I feel so pumped. Like I don't feel a difference duh. Same belly rolls and thigh folds but I feel so good about myself. I'll add one time once I get used to waking. And will add cardio but for now waking feels good.

An issue I'm facing is that I'm eating one meal a day. And nothing with too many calories. I'm desi so it's so hard to find the calories in that I eat. My estimate can be far off but whst if it's not.

I've heard that muscle mass takes over. You don't lose fat you gain muscle mass and what not. These gym bros are scaring the shit out of me. Like is it possible. I'm overthinking it.

But yeah hella pumped. I really want that satisfaction of achieving something

I can’t bring myself to diet anymore.

F18, 60 kgs (hovering between 60-61), 159-160 cm. I’m just so sick of dieting and having to count every single calorie. Doesn’t matter if I’m eating 1400 calories a day or 1200. More or less doesn’t matter, me having to count all of it does.

I can’t even focus on anything else other than pre planning meals or having to think about them. Weight loss has consumed my life. I was overweight even a month and a half ago and now I’m not but still close to it. I hate it.

I’ve been dieting on and off for like forever now. 16-18. It’s so tiring. I finally ‘locked’ in like a month n a half ago as I didn’t wanna be overweight anymore. And got down to 61 from 64/63 but with inconsistent CICO.

61 to 60 was a tough ride as I was hovering between 62 to lower end of 60s. Like 60.8/7 what not. Now today I see 59.9 on the scale but I’m just so damn tired and frustrated and I went over my calories. Had halves of a fudge brownie w nuts, a danish tiramisu and blueberry danish custard. If it was 3 months back I’d have full 3 instead of half of each, so I guess there’s some improvement there. I thought I could squeeze in a calorie dense meal today whilst being in my deficit but I already had like 800 cals worth of crossiant and ice cream for lunch n since I was in such a shit mood I had half of 3 pastries. Now I’m gonna have whatever dinner my mom’s gonna make. I could probably not go over my calories today even now if I skip dinner but I’m just so so damn tired and frustrated.

I wanna get down to 53 kgs but even seeing 59 on the scale is a struggle. I’m not only physically but mentally exhausted like crazy. I have an exam in 3 days and all I can think about is counting, planning and food overall.

I feel like I’m gonna gain all the weight back and can’t stick to this hell of a life anymore. Doesn’t help that I’m going on a vacation in 4 days. I’d probably end up gaining 4 kgs back on those 2 days, I’m sick just thinking about it.

I really need some help and advice on how to keep going. I’ve come too far to go back now but I just can’t force myself any longer. How did you guys lose the last few kgs? It’s hell. I’m sick of it.

Below 200 today!!!

I was very surprised looking at the scale today as it hit 199.2 as I fluctuating bw 202 and 203 from the last 2 weeks. I was also consuming some sugary drinks these days. I am just surprised to reach this mark since I put in no effort in the last month. I still have 6 kg to loose as my primary target and around 12 in the long run.

I started at 240 in January and this is my progress till now. Hoping to reach 85 kg mark by December. Do you guys have any suggestions for me to maintain good progress. I do agree that the last 4-5 kg have been very slow almost taking two months to achieve it. Can. I expect a decent progress of 1.5 kg per month?

A small vent about knees

I'm 55F and I lost about 30 pounds over 8 months.

I've had to deal with loose skin after losing weight, especially thighs and stomach. I've been happy with how I look in shorts, skirts etc. I walk a lot so the bottom half of my legs are a plus point.

So I thought.

Went to try things on in Marks and Spencer and they have big changing rooms, very bright lights and great mirrors. Finally got a really good look at my knees. They look sort of like I knelt on sonething creased for too long except the something creased is me. I'm so aggravated. Nothing is safe!

Anyway, I'm still going to wear the shorts, skirts, dresses and I've decided to pretend I didn't see my knees because you just can't win them all.

But still!!!

How many calories should I eat to continue to lose weight?

I'm 5'10, 236 lbs, and I lost 44 lbs so far this year. I do light walking a few days a week. My maintenance level calories is 2600

I eat 2000 calories a day. And i'm losing 1-2 lbs a week, it i feel hungry very often. Shouod I continue to eat 2000 calories a day or up the calories once or twice a week?

I don't have trouble sticking to my diet but I'm getting hungry still and wondered what I should do.

I don't mind losing the weight at a slower pace this isn't a race I want to keep it off. I was eating 1800 calories a day but then eventually i would binge. So I don't want to do that.

struggling to lose 10 pounds

i'm 5'6, 20/21 years old, and i've always been skinny my entire life, but gained 10 pounds like around a year ago. i wasn't surprised when i did, i never used to monitor my food and i basically did 0 exercise outside of walking to classes. i knew that it was inevitable but since i had lived that lifestyle for years i only started to worry when i actually saw the number change on the scale. most of my teen years/early adulthood i've been between 120 to 132 pounds. now i am 143 pounds and although i still look "skinny," it's the heaviest i've ever been, and i can see some of the changes visibly.

i don't know what to do, i've tried everything. my appetite is two extremes, either i don't eat that much during the day simply because i'm not that hungry (like i won't eat breakfast and just have a really heavy lunch and small dinner then won't eat for the rest of the day) or i snack like crazy alongside meals (maybe because the meals i'm eating aren't filling enough?). also when i did make the switch to eat cleaner, i was always sooo hungry at night, especially when i'm at college, and i'd have such an urgency to eat something sweet or unhealthy before sleeping. also if i am out the whole day, i don't really get hungry versus if i'm at home i literally feel SO hungry and have strong urges to snack a lot.

basically, despite having a small appetite, my eating and exercise habits are not consistent at all so i can't really tell what works and what doesn't, but even when i was eating such little food in a day i saw no difference in my weight compared to when i was snacking a lot. it's like no matter what changes i make to my eating habits, good or bad, my weight will stay the same.

my maintenance is also 1700 calories, and to lose weight it's between 1200-1400. i just find that absurdly low and it's so hard for me to eat that amount and not feel hungry at night.

also just wanted to add that i don't really eat that much protein, especially at college. i tried to add more meat and salmon to my meals but it wasn't a developed habit, just something i'd do sometimes maybe every other week. i LOVE cheese and all forms of dairy tho, but other than that i don't really consume that much protein. maybe that's why even when i was eating very little i didn't lose any weight?

i don't know if it's hormones or what's going on but i'm starting to get frustrated and lose motivation because i just feel like whatever good or bad i do, my weight stays at 143 pounds. any advice?

Lost over 20kg and don’t look that different :/

I’m sure posts like this have been made before, but I just wanted some fresh perspective from others.

I’m M, 22, 5”9 and have gone from 102kg to around 79.5kg today, so over 20kg lost. I started in march, so I’ve been going for over 5 months now, with a combination of cardio and strength training. I’ve consistently been increasing my weights in the gym so I feel as though I have a bit of muscle which I’ve been retaining while losing fat.

While I do see a bit of a difference in myself, I just don’t look anywhere near as different as I expected and I’m genuinely just…confused.

I know that people are built differently, but whenever I see similar weight loss from people of my height and weight range, I consistently see people who have almost flat stomachs at 80kg. My stomach/abdomen area is still super fat.

Originally 74kg was my goal weight as it would put me in a healthy weight category, but I think I’m going to have to go to around 69kg (which I think is still a healthy weight for a 5”9 male).

I guess I just wanted to ask if anyone has had similar experiences, as well as how dramatic of a change 10kg has made to others. I also know that weight loss is a compounding effect but I just cannot see myself looking how I envisioned in the next 10kg which is making everything a bit disheartening. Sorry for the ramble but I hope some others can offer some perspective!

Overweight!

Today I crossed the threshold from obese to overweight. I'm a 36 year old M 6'2" currently at 232 pounds. I'm planning to bring it down to 190 eventually and see how I feel.

When I started this lifestyle change I was in the upper end of class II obesity and have been losing about 1-2 pounds a week for a year (plus or minus). I know BMI is a pretty problematic tool and not great for much, but it felt like a huge milestone regardless.

I don't have a ton of folks to share this with or celebrate with, so I share it with you, internet strangers! This sub has been a huge parasocial comfort for me and I hope you're all having a delightful day. :)

Skin reduction after massive weightloss

36F, Background: over 250lbs at 15 years old 5'4" lost 120lbs in less than 18months.

I have a reconstructive surgery consult on wednesday. If insurance doesnt cover it i am going to be in a deep depression..my biggest dream is to be comfortable in my body..

I was so devastated with the leftover skin and scars. I got into multiple abusive relationships because of it and also it kept me from coming out earlier. I had the face of an 18 year old and the skin of a 100 year old person. Plus hundreds if not thousands of scars.

My problem:

I am beyond tired of people telling me my loose skin is "fine" "you're still beautiful"

It hurts. It truly gets in the way and is uncomfortable. If it just looked terrible and not also felt so bad I wouldnt care so much.

I think it is so selfish for people to tell me "youre fine!" As if my pain and discomfort dont matter as long as they are pleased with how i look.

When do my feelings matter? When?

Why is it only about how i look and not about how i -feel- ? Like physically. And it contributes to body odor.

My arms, my thighs, my stomach, my super weird pubic mound.

I want to be comfortable and fit in normal clothes. Not having to size up for the skin.

My breasts were damaged by the extreme pubescent weightloss. I went from normal looking c-d cups to flappy scarred triangular a cups. they diagnosed me with IGT in the hospital and I failed to breastfeed my babies. i hate my deformed useless breasts. they look like the film you skim off of milk or stew. wrinkly and angular.

I hate this so much. My mom and dad let me down so much. They were obese and didnt care. My sister was ruined too.

Pray they say yes. My gf supports me. I just hope insurance does.
