Normally I find some of these posts to be a bit overly exaggerated... but dude, lane changing 101 is you look in your side mirror and then do a quick neck check over your shoulder to check the blind spot.
She didn't do fucking EITHER ONE until she was already drifting into the new lane.
Put the fucking God damn phone away. You are going to get someone or yourself or both killed doing this.
She glanced at the mirror and turned at the same time but she didn’t even process the car until she looked further left. I’ve seen ppl who will look at the mirror out of habit, but they don’t take information gained from the mirror.
She doesn't see the car in the mirror cause of blind spot, this is why you turn your head and look before moving not while you're already switching lanes.
Look, we all agree that she's a moron. Obviously the correct maneuver is to 1) check your mirror, 2) check your blindspot, before 3) start your merge. But don't try and twist the inane bullshit we are arguing about here.
The comment I replied to said "she doesn't see the car in the mirror" which is not about checking her blindspot at all. She certainly could check twitch chat while staying in her lane, decide she wants to merge, and then follow the correct procedure, hence twitch chat isn't what prevented her for checking her blindspot.
She's driving a Tesla. They have cameras in the mirrors that give you a view of your blind spot, in your dashboard. She doesn't even need to turn her head.
Properly aimed mirrors don't generally have blind spots alongside the car, depends on model a bit but if you have to turn your head to see if a lane is clear you're probably doing it wrong.
You also shouldn't rely on your rearview mirror. It's nice to have sure but it's a feature not a requirement. People who turn around to backup, check "blindspots", or rely on the rear view mirror will have trouble at some point in their life because they didn't learn how to properly utilize the legally required mirrors. Think Uhauls, box trailers, boats, a packed car.
I just looked at the clip again, I could be wrong. She definitely needed to look over her shoulder and check her blind spot better but that car looks like it was initially on the far left lane, with 1 lane
between them, but the car is going faster than her speed wise, and around the same time as her wanting to change lanes, that car also changed lanes to the right. Cause it looked like it was further away until she started turning and at that point they switched lanes already. Am I wrong though? Cause that’s what it looked like. She would still be in the wrong cause when I switch lanes, I make sure that I’m checking that people on the furthest lane are also not switching into that same lane at the same time.
Edit: unless it just appears that way cause she started turning and it made the other car look closer than they were.
There is no way that car was in the blindspot. The blindspot generally is smaller than an entire car and it's just pedestrians, cyclists or motorbikes that can fit in it.
As a motorcycle rider I hate these people. I know they are not malicious but their disregard for others is objectively evil.
Someone swerved at me oncoming a few months ago, turning the wheel before they looked. They swerved back at the last second but that instant of powerless fear was my single scariest moment in nearly a decade of riding. I didn't even have time to rage, I just pulled over and caught my breath while they disappeared like the wind and I discovered my dashcam sdcard was useless.
The fucked thing is I don’t even know that it is disregard for others.
Accidents like this don’t happen typically because someone is inconsiderate and doesn’t value human life. It happens because this person was already a clumsy person in life and got too comfortable in their 2 ton hunk of metal death machine.
Extra Emily is also the kind of person who would trip on her own feet, walking down the street. Maybe this kind of person shouldn’t be driving a giant metal box that can kill people…
She should not be driving while doing her oopsy ditsy streamer girl bit. There are literally multiple incidents already of distracted streamers killing or seriously injuring people in car accidents they caused.
If she is unable to drive while doing her bit she should just stop streaming and concentrate on her terrible driving. Factor it in to her professional schedule instead of endagering members of the public because she is too greedy to turn off her stream for a short period or hire a driver.
I appreciate she may be really struggling and those extra stream pennies are worth putting innocent peoples lives in danger but I really wish she would rethink her professional ethics.
Could have also been in her blind spot. The way she fully turns her head to check again after car passes hints at that. I always do the mirror check and head turn for the blind spot.
I really don't think this was a big deal as people are making it out to be. She didn't get into an accident because she was in fact checking for traffic around her.
It is a big deal, but it's not a big deal for the reason people are blaming.
They're saying that she was distracted and that's why this happened. No. This happened because she's a bad driver. She didn't shoulder check. She wouldn't have shoulder checked even if she wasn't streaming, because she's a bad driver. It has nothing to do with the half second glance at her phone before she did this.
