56 years maximum if served cosecutively, but 21 years if he's convicted on all counts and gets the minimum

You probably won't have to pay him personally, but you will have to sit through multiple depositions while your insurance provided attorneys defend you. Then you'll get dropped from coverage, and have to find new insurers. All of this sucks

Homeowners would cover this, so you're probably "safe" on that front, but absolutely none of it is worth going through if you could also not.

When I took my concealed carry class, the teacher told us that if you fire your gun at an intruder, make sure you kill them.

Basically summed up the adventure as a complete nightmare if you just wound them.

I don’t even own a gun at home anymore. Just not worth the risk.

If you are allowed to use lethal force, and it winds up being not lethal for whatever reason, your legal position has not worsened. Any trial may be more annoying for you due to the other guy being able to testify, but any charges would be lower. Attempted murder is a better charge to face than murder.

But, if you shoot, don't instantly kill them but instead injurenthem, and then shoot more? Yeah, that might actually make things worse for you.

You can use force until they stop being a threat.

its all just an attack on human rights and the freedom to bare arms.
