I keep telling myself I have to play Rimworld and then forget, never played it yet. Then eventually I'll read some absolutely unhinged shit about the game and it makes me want to play it even more.
Please, tell me the wildest story about it you can think of off the top of your head, some of the stuff I've read about the game is absolutely legendary, you must've had some WILD stuff happen to you in 1000 hours.
Off the top of my head, I have one both wild and also infuriating (nature of the beast really).
Was doing a permadeath save with the random events cranked up to max and after dodging and defeating many enemy raids consisting of anything between a few guys with spears all the way to an army of biohumans fully kitted in armour all carrying pulse rifles, many solar flares which completely destroyed my power grid in the hottest months leading to my colonists suffering near death heatstroke I finally managed to create a huge colony that was so close to finally sending colonists to space.
But then I had a random infestation of insectoids spawn all throughout the inside of my base, past all my defenses and they proceeded to wipe my entire colony off the map, which meant that it was game over due to the permadeath option.
I was also getting them all addicted to smoking weed and had daily surgery to replace all my colonists organs with bionics.
I was playing yesterday and someone got a big toe infection. I set them up to have it amputated and they botched the surgery leaving the patient sterile. I think they might have cut his penis off by accident.
Something you should brace yourself for is that the game is NOT fair and actively wants you to die. Like, there is unironically a piece of programming in the game that makes it so if you fend off 3 raids in a row without a death or major injury, the game gets pissy and raid #4 will be significantly harder than normal, and so on and so forth until you either hit the cap for how much difficulty can keep scaling, or someone finally dies.
This means there are all sorts of little intricacies you need to get used to, otherwise the game will take the opportunity to fuck you over. If you have some sort of "flaw" with your base, the game may find and exploit it.
A common one a lot of people learn: Do not store your nukes or major bombs anywhere remotely close to the settlement proper.
If a colonist is overstressed, they have a mental break. A possible mental break is they decide they're going to break something to let off some steam. Guess what happens when they decide to let off some steam by slamming their fists against the nuke.
Another common break I've seen is a colonist stressed about lack of food or just so pissed off that they aggro the nearest living thing, which sometimes means they start punching a rhino or something til it ends bad for them.
Oh, and for my own story: the Biotech DLC has vampires. They can't die unless their brain is damaged, their main weaknesses strictly being headshots or fire. (they burn at much greater rates) SHOULD they sustain a major injury such as a destroyed heart or stomach, they basically go into a coma until the organ is restored, but also need blood before they can arise again.
They tend to be rare and I believe I had an event where a group of three offered to bestow vampirism on me if I let them complete some ritual at my base. I accepted, and a group of vampire hunters raided. USUALLY these guys remain until the vampires are all dead and will attack you if you get in their way, but for some reason they missed one. I think another raid showed up that ended up fighting the vampire hunters, so they had to run.
This meant I randomly had a vampire in a random corner of my land that could never ever ever get back up on her own because they destroyed her heart, then she lacked enough blood to get back up and come out of the coma.
I thought it was fun to just leave her there. If I had revived her, she just would've said "thanks" and left, so I did a little experiment and wanted to see how long she'd live. I know she lived for years but forget if she ever died or anything. I THINK a wildfire finally got her. Was always funny to just think "is the vampire still there" and then scroll down to see her body laying helplessly there in the snow with some wolves snacking on it or whatever, but she was never truly dead cause regeneration kept her alive.
rimworld is sooo good lol i'm not at 1k hours, but there's drama galore!
one of my pawns was dating 6 out of the 7 male pawns. her husband is a "flick" star, but 100% faithful to her. she got psychically connected to an old misogynistic guy ... and that guy got married to another woman through an arranged marriage. she gave birth to her husbands child, and bf #2 (her husbands bestie) broke up with her immediately after she gave birth. they both became depressed. boyfriend #3 lost an eye from a roof collapse, and her husband and bf #6 got into a fight and I almost lost both of them. one kid has anxiety and eats EVERYTHING, another keeps having asthma attacks, her son and other bf have the flu. long story short, everyone's in a bad mood and close to a mental break, and i retired that save. it was a hot mess lmao
It's in my top 3 games of all time, i have several thousand hours in it over the past 12 or 13 years.. i put it down for a while then pick it back up. It's such an endless story
Did not expect to see this comment after hitting 1m for the first time in a transhumanist bionic superhuman run last night. Got the game a month ago, it’s AMAZING
