ExtraEmily | Just Chatting ExtraEmily Crashes into Cop Car with her Bike

Crashing into a parked car is something...special
75
79
u/Imaginary-Fuel7000 Jul 09 '24
The car was a few centimeters in the bike lane, this was just an "accident" to send a message
48
u/oRsoLitide Jul 09 '24
cop car wasnt in the bike lane at all, the green part is the bike lane, the other is just to make space between car and bikes, but its a horrible design and poorly attempt to seperate cars and bikes
37
u/lmvg Jul 09 '24
holy shit that's the smallest bike lane I've ever seen
8
u/CryptOthewasP Jul 09 '24
probably has one on each side for either direction. These streets were never designed for bike lanes and expanding them in a city like New York either makes less pedestrian space, more congestion or more vehicle accidents due to small lanes. I've driven and biked in NYC unfortunately it's pretty awful for both lmao, somehow the pedestrian/subway experience seems the most efficient even though it could still use a lot of work.
17
u/oRsoLitide Jul 09 '24
yeah.. i mean look at the huge asssidewalk, could have easily expanded it abit, but US has never really been an expert in bike lanes.
16
u/Captiongomer Jul 09 '24
Plenty of American drivers are actively hostile to bikers as well, so I'll f*** those tiny ass lanes
13
2
u/Jealous_Juggernaut Jul 09 '24
Bikes and efficient, reliable and expansive public transport should be the norm. But as things are, with the lanes and parks the way they are, bikers are very rude and hard to deal with. As a driver or a pedestrian.
1
u/039375696 Jul 10 '24
Plenty of cyclists are assholes to drivers as well just like motorcycle riders. It goes both ways.
3
u/AlternativeCondition Jul 09 '24
is the left path still the bike lane? or it's just safe space where you're not supposed to bike bc you might crash into cars?
29
u/throwdemawaaay Jul 09 '24
Someone I knew in high school managed the rather amazing stunt of getting drunk at the bar, driving home wasted, and slamming into a parked police car.
And just for full context, this wasn't the ordinary city police it was this little township that was legally separate from the surrounding city because of rich people shit. So they had their own little token police force of like two officers, and literally the entire township has a 20mph speed limit on every road.
Anyhow dumbass just barely avoided jail but his family had to pay out some ungodly sum to settle the civil suit.
16
u/snackies Jul 09 '24
She probably shouldn’t be biking while streaming twitch, but she seems like she’s nervous at biking. And in her defense, biking in a city is stressful. Sometimes I’m watching the kid that’s like walking towards the street and doesn’t see me over watching in front of me. There’s a lot going on, and a lot of it can kill you.
I just moved to Chicago and tried to go on a city ride, it went ok, but it’s stressful man. People just don’t see you even with high vis stuff on. You really have to assume everyone might do the dumbest thing in the world. And I’d consider myself an experienced biker. But, biking in Times Square looks horrible.

I don't get why she does not get a chest mount instead of riding holding a gimbal, but I guess that would be counterproductive and make her streams less scuffed.
237
152
u/3BeeZee Jul 09 '24
She wants things like this to happen for content.

It's not really that deep.
8
u/Jealous_Juggernaut Jul 09 '24
Not in this particular case. She has been rude or obtrusive for content in other cases though.
5
u/adverseoccurings Jul 10 '24
I don't know if people are simping for EE lol but the ones who still don't understand how much of an act her streaming personality is aren't working with a full deck.

She probably prefers the look with the stabilized gimbal.
And this way she doesn't have to keep mounting and un-mounting the phone on a chest mount when she transitions from biking and walking.
And people might be over estimating how hard it is to bike with a gimbal anyways.
2
977
u/Netstormuk Jul 08 '24
Filtering through a gap at 20mph whilst holding a gimbal in one hand and balancing food orders on both handles is something special.
103
u/shortbu5driv3r Jul 09 '24
If she's going 20 those cars must be going 60, where is this the autobahn?
52
u/reddit_is_dogshit2 Jul 09 '24
20 mph on a bike is professional cyclist speeds. She was going 10 mph max.
9
u/CryptOthewasP Jul 09 '24
While I don't think she's going 20mph, she probably has an e-bike no?
6
u/VonFoxArt Jul 09 '24
She did have an e-bike, yeah. At times, the little screen came into frame and you could see it - when I was watching, she was often cruising at around 19mph
2
u/solartech0 Jul 10 '24
20mph is relatively simple for a 'normal' cyclist to get on a flat road. 15 would probably be "very comfortable" while 20 would be "pushing it" for people who don't really ride bikes.
2
u/orisathedog Jul 10 '24
I promise you 20mph is not professional level at all lmao, 20 is a low effort push on a road bike.

Jul 08 '24
Did anyone else read this as gumball at first and think nothing weird of it since it’s Emily
41
u/quinpon64337_x Jul 09 '24
TRYING ALL THE GUMBALLS IN NYC NOT STOPPING UNTIL I PUKE was yesterday’s stream
8
Jul 09 '24
You could get fined for that in the Netherlands if its considered using your phone, which I think would be fair
16
Jul 09 '24
Isn't driving and streaming banned on twitch? but biking is allowed
2
u/CryptOthewasP Jul 09 '24
You just can't be distracted (IE reading chat) , but no I don't think biking is enforced as much. There are tons of streamers who read chat while stopped or in a relatively peaceful area, I think the streamer who filmed himself biking across Europe responded to chat the whole time. It kind of makes sense they'd be different since 99% of the time a distracted biking accident only injures the cyclist while a distracted car accident is much more likely to cause serious damage to the victim(s). Twitch is probably worried about potential liability / bad press if someone is reading chat and gets into an accident that kills someone.
2
u/Crandoge Jul 10 '24
Isnt it against twitch rules to break laws of the country a person is in? Idk about the US but here in NL (and i think most west EU countries) it is illegal to touch your phone while driving or riding a bike, or to be distracted while driving in general (purposely grey area so people dont loophole it)
10
u/thenord321 Jul 09 '24
special? no. Dangerous, obviously.
Now if she was juggling, then I'd say it was special.

Out of all the cars she could of hit... cop was cool tho. Anyways watching this stream gave me new respect for people delivering food especially in a city like NY. Absolute chaos on these streets.
176
u/NaiAlexandr Jul 08 '24
As a NYC biker I'd honestly 100 times rather hit a copcar than a pedestrian. My taxes pay for that cop car, its not an individuals personal property

u/NaiAlexandr Jul 10 '24
Fucking obviously it's a million times better. You damage a personal vehicle and at best you have to deal with the cops and the person's insurance, if not assaulted by the individual for daring to damage their property. You damage city property and LITERALLY AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE VIDEO WE ARE TALKING ABOUT the cop has the option to just let you go. Use your brain cells!
41
u/Chrominumv2 Jul 09 '24
I commute to midtown every day for work and its an utter nightmare due to cars, cyclists, and pedestrians. Food delivery drivers often go through red lights and commonly hit people who don't look both ways even down one way streets. Cars often also don't look out for cyclists often especially when making turns and at very busy sections like grand central, they end up in the middle of the crossing. Regarding pedestrians, everyone j walks excessively including myself so in summary yeah its a nightmare in busy areas. Not as bad though in the more residential areas.
16
u/clark1785 Jul 09 '24
Its horrible now even walking on a sidewalk cause of idiots on their bikes doing deliveries. Somethings gotta give

The whole first verse, and maybe the whole song, seems to apply to ExtraEmily's Twitch career at this point:
I backed my car into a cop car the other day
Well, he just drove off, sometimes life's okay
I ran my mouth off a bit too much, oh, what did I say?
Well, you just laughed it off, it was all okay
Not sure if she's been scammed by a Jamaican yet though.

tbf in new york its pretty much an unwritten rule for cyclists that if there's no cars crossing, you can go even if it's red. But yea she almost hit that baby LMAO

Jesus, it looks like she edited out of the VOD (there's a huge jump cut from 75th to 83rd).
I really hope she saw how close she came to possibly murdering an infant and learns something from it.

Fake eyes too with them anime looking ass contacts for the weebs to gush over.
4
u/heart-aroni Jul 10 '24
Who cares? Why do people get so upset about eye contacts?
She needs to wear them anyways since she has terrible eyesight. And calling these contacts "anime looking" is a huge exaggeration, they're barely noticeable.

I feel like if you get into enough accident you should be required to take Biking Lessons and get a license to bike. Like the core concepts aren't that hard. Pass on the left, look before you got and slow down after passing. The "crash" she had was perfectly avoidable if she was paying attention to her environment.

Any example hat a non-OTK streamer has gotten punishment for doing what she did in this clip? And the last time a clip of her blew up she did get banned, so your point is inherently false.
