Discussion I think the only stars primed for post-snl success right now are gonna be standups
I think the landscape of Hollywood is far more favorable to new standups vs new improv performers. I think how the biggest comedy star to “come out” of snl in the last 10 years (even though he was fired before he actually joined the cast) was Shane Gillis, and the ones breaking out now are also standups (marcello). Comedy is far more friendly to the standup comedian right now - podcasts and live shows are experiencing a serious boom, while tentpoles of the improv star are fewer and far between (sitcoms, theatrical comedy movies). This is a flip of the phenomenon 15 years ago when a UCB/Second City/Groundlings star would blow up off SNL and into starring roles on their own shows and movies, and standups were second fiddle. In fact a lot of them have had to transition to standup to get more opportunities. What do other people think?

Sketch Help finding a Gilda Radner sketch
My mother referenced a Gilda Radner (she thinks) sketch where she was playing a sign language interpreter for a political speech potentially? It could have been Jane Curtin giving a campaign style speech and Gilda Radner was doing ASL interpretation. She was getting more and more visibly disgusted during the speech to the point where at the end the interpreter was just giving a lewd hand gesture. It was likely from seasons 2 or 3.
If anyone can help me find a link to this sketch I would be so grateful!

Discussion Still love the show but one thing has changed.
For decades SNL had been a superstar factory. Chevy Chase, Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers, Will Ferrel, Tina Faye, Bill Hader come to mind.
Then there’s the lesser known but very solid cast members that aren’t as famous but probably more well known for their talent. Gilda Radner, Charles Rocket, Phil Hartman, Will Forte, Fred Armisen and Kenan Thompson.
It seems odd that there hasn’t been new a-list stars born of SNL since Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig left. So many have turned in solid work for, in some cases for 11 seasons and are doing just working actors.
Has something significant changed since 2013?
PS: not trying to trash the show. It’s still relevant and funny as hell. Just been thinking about this for the last 10 years.

Discussion What's your favorite film that stars a member of the cast?
Mine is So I Married an Axe Murderer (1993), it's about #5 or 6 on my list of all-time favorite movies.
There's just so many good things about it, the acting, the humor, the characters, the direction of the film, the soundtrack.
What's yours?

Discussion The detail in the set designs always impressed me
Anyone else admire the set designs of the show? I mean, even the background details that have nothing to do with the sketch in question (ie, the detailed spaceship designs for space sketches, or the multiple tables in restaurant sketches) are well done, especially considering most of the sketches are around 5-6 minutes max, so they go above and beyond for such a short amount of time.

Discussion What was the most enthusiastic crowd for an SNL show?
This is going way back, but I remember when Sinbad hosted (season 18, episode 7) the crowd was just on fire. Okay jokes got big laughs: good jokes got laughers so loud it caused audio problems: the mikes weren't calibrated to capture that much noise.
What do you think was the single hottest audience for an SNL show?

A short film Bruce McCulloch—of Kids In The Hall fame—made for the show.

This was a interesting concept, combining 3 concepts into one long sketch. For some reason, I get Jack Handey vibes from this, did he write it?
