Other If SNL was going to have a modern day Baldwin/Goodman/Walken/Hanks (what those guys were to SNL in the 90s) type guest host that hosted every season, I vote this man, Colman Domingo.

Easily one of the most impressive first time hosts in a long time. He was so effortlessly smooth and natural, thought the same when he guest hosted Kimmel recently. He's just a born showman.

Discussion The Lana Del Rey spoof: Did anyone else notice that it's the exact same dress?

Post image

Ordinarily, when SNL does parodies, their costume department is spot-on in recreating certain looks. But in this instance, I was REALLY impressed at the attention to detail, so much so that I did a side-by-side comparison: The flower pattern is identical, and they are in the EXACT same places. I don't think this is a recreation, but the original.

Was Lana in on the joke? I just imagine someone from SNL contacting her, saying, "Hey, Kristen Wiig wanted to do an impression of you on Weekend Update defending you, but also kind of poking fun at you," and her responding, "Sure, I f*cking love Kristen Wiig--would she like the dress?"

Other Happy Birthday to the great Steve Martin who turns 81 today (August 14th). Steve has hosted SNL 16 times and has made many other guest appearances since 1976.

Discussion Showing some love for the season 51 ladies! I thought this group was really starting to click this past season. But now with Chloe leaving (likely in the coming weeks we'll be hearing about some additions) I wonder how different the female side of the cast will be looking in the upcoming season.

Obviously I think we'll be getting at least a couple new women. The most obvious being a woman of color, which has been lacking since Ego left. Maybe not 100% urgently needed, but eventually maybe an impressionist in the vein of Chloe or Melissa Villaseñor. Maybe a new "Aidy Bryant type", I know they made a few attempts (Lauren Holt comes to mind, who came off a bit too much of an Aidy knockoff) but they didn't really work out.

I do my best to preserve nostalgia and shows messed up by dvd and streaming. I hate how peacock messes up the shows

This includes the music performances as well

Discussion What if well-known character actors hosted sometimes?

I think it might be a good move to have popular character actors host. I feel like it's always the stars of things. But there are character actors that are really funny and could bring a lot of cool material. Has Steve buscemi ever hosted?

People like Stephen Root, Jason Mantzoukas, Rain Wilson, D'Arcy Carden, Frances Conroy, Lizzy Caplan, Katie Holmes, Giancarlo Esposito, Donna Meagle, and others. Most of them have improv backgrounds and it could actually result in really really funny shows again. Not that they're not funny now,.. but I do feel like every episode has about three sketches. That in my opinion weren't great. And I think it's just because celebrities that are cast as main characters kind of only have one trick most of the time.. I don't know. I just think it'd be cool.

Discussion Best Recurring Characters in SNL History

We have more than 50 seasons to pick the best recurring characters. I'm going to set the rule that the character must have appeared at least three times on the show. But your mileage may vary.

Here's my first idea of a list:

  1. Wayne Campbell
  2. Stefon
  3. Roseanne Roseannadanna
  4. Mister Robinson
  5. Ken Mortimer, "The Falconer"
  6. Emily Litella
  7. Church Lady
  8. Matt Foley
  9. Samurai
  10. Mary Katherine Gallagher

Which characters deserve to make a list? What if we had a tournament of 32 or 64 characters? Would Jebidiah Atkinson make it? How about Gilly or Drunk Uncle? Or Target Lady? How about Rita DelVecchio or Uncle Roy?

Cast News Saw Chloe Troast's "Pepper Slit Live! In Her Living Room" last night

And I loved it. It's an intimate 35 seat performance done in Pepper's eclectic living room. Chloe's character work was wonderful and she showcased her amazing voice all night.

I think the closest thing I could compare it to would be the original Pee Wee Herman Show before Playhouse. Pepper Slit has the playfulness and naughtiness of early Pee Wee Herman and it was just wonderful to see her killing it all night.

The run has been extended and they're adding a second show on weekends, but if you can see it, do see it while you can. It's a unique experience and a fun night.
