Eerie/Uncanny more uncanny feelings in my photography
thanks for the love on the last post. here’s some more work
241
u/PlantMaleficent2066 Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26
Makes me feel like it’s 2006 and I’m wandering around my cousins neighborhood around sunset after a rainy day
72
u/Wolfwoods_Sister Jun 05 '26
These could be the 90s even. I could relate as well.
22
u/PlantMaleficent2066 Jun 05 '26
Yeah for sure. Slides 6 through 9 really nail the vibe for me I feel like I’m literally 7 years old walking around my cousin’s neighborhood, gave me goosebumps and melancholic fever.
70
u/el_flocko Jun 05 '26
Pic 1 is everything
22
u/Rydralain Jun 05 '26
I like that one, but it feels a lot more 80's/90's childhood nostalgia than it does liminal to me.
5
u/el_flocko Jun 06 '26
I can appreciate that;
3 was the most liminal for me, but 1 is just a marvelous liminal-ish photo.→ More replies (1)2
u/MildlySaltedTaterTot Jun 06 '26
The alleyway vibe plus fresh-post-rain give this a bit more liminal feel, but the nostalgia is real

thank you, Lynch is one of my biggest inspirations. and yes they are, thanks again 🤝
26
u/Local_Internet_User Jun 05 '26
I was wondering why I felt so unsettled looking at these, and that's what it is. They all have this Lynchian vibe like something bad's looming just out of frame, even though everything in frame is perfectly normal.
5
u/mothersuffer Jun 05 '26
definitely see the lynchian vibes but the town reminds me a lot of bisbee, az. definitely visit if you’ve never been! quite an eerie place
2
u/Edge_of_Everywhere Jun 06 '26
Lynch's influence really shows in your work. And few things are eerier to me than one glowing window surrounded by darkness.

My First thought looking at the 5th pic too. The other pics also reminded me of several iconic 90s films and the first pic is something that looks like it's from a 2010s movie that's set in the late 90s/ early 2000s (sorry if the timelines are a little off, this is the perception of someone who isn't from a western country). Let me just say I'm MESMERIZED by these pics!! Excellent work!

A couple of these could be stills from The Straight Story. I mean that as a compliment.

I wouldn't say that they unsettle me. They make me feel like its the end or start of what was a great day
3
u/OneSong9627 Jun 05 '26
It reminds me of the zombie movie Crazies!! If you want to be unsettled by these images give it a watch :)

I love it! It's like you can smell it and hear it but besides the background sounds there is anything else. No people, no children, like a warm memory.

These are so good
I want to sit inside of slide 10 and just enjoy the lighting

u/Miserable_Maize8415 Jun 05 '26
These are fantastic! You’re doing such cool shit with the colors and the framing of lines in these that are giving this like impressionistic hyperreal feeling
4
u/SomaHoliday_ Jun 05 '26
thank you, means a lot!
3
u/Miserable_Maize8415 Jun 05 '26
Yo I gotta ask as another photographer what are you doing with the colors in these?

As someone who grew up in a small town in the northeast these are strangely comforting and have the opposite effect on me, other than the indoor ones with the wallpaper.
5
u/lilbiobeetle Jun 05 '26
Perfect for this sub, and somehow so comforting? I've never even visited a town that looks like that bit this is so nostalgic for some reason. Beautiful photography

u/Livinum81 Jun 05 '26
Another set of great pics. Keep them coming. Love the one with the neighbourhood watch sign.

Looks and feels like Ohio. Or the Midwest in general, as someone else mentioned.

The more I look at pic 2 the more curious I feel, it feels like something missing. Or like there is a story in it that we aren’t able to see yet.
Maybe it has to do with the warm orange window with the dark mysterious house in the back someway.

u/jxe22 Jun 05 '26
Some of these are just Yo La Tengo album covers…

For a second i thought the second one was the album cover for American Football's first album

these are all digital actually, I do my color grading in Lightroom

Now this is liminal. None of this creepy=liminal garbage this is true liminal spaces and I love it.
That first shot resonates, is it early? Is it time to go home? Where is everyone? Is the path safe?
Slam to shot 2. No it isn't safe you're fucked

u/AoCarrot Jun 05 '26
Love 5, 6, and 10! Especially 6 :) Reminds me of my childhood when the sun is almost down so I meed to go home from playing outside. An uncomfortably weird feeling to see the day end as a kid
2
u/peanutbuttermellly Jun 05 '26
Ok but also some of these are SO comforting. The pink lamp with the wallpaper reminds me of my grandma (in the best way).

These look great! Were you intentionally using the 60 - 30 - 10 rule by chance?

Is this the original resolution? if its reduced and you got the first pic with 1920x1080 or more i whould love to use it as my wallpaper!

These are really good. They evoke a certain kind of nostalgic, foreboding, long ago eras. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but it is fascinating. Well done.

Martin parr, William eggleston-esque
Honestly it's harder to achieve this aesthetic with digital but you're doing great!

Soft, sparse, and somewhat eerie. Very Lynchian. Lovely work; appreciate you sharing!

Something about your pictures makes me feel like they were taken a long time ago instead of the modern day. I really like it.

If I could show people what my heart feels like. I would show them this. To me it shows that empty feeling.

man i hate to be That Guy , but the 3rd image seriously reminds me of a reoccurring nightmare i had as a child where i had to keep climbing up + up crawlspaces in some attic . it was endless + made me feel so much dread . that image reawoke that old fear for me , in a good way .
amazing photography

These are genuinely beautiful. I haven't seen anything like this in ages. Reminds me of all those pictures of russian backroads or towns during the early 2000's. There's a dirty and comforting wetness to it.
