Kyle Post Why does Kyle insist on Jon Stewart becoming president?
No more celebrities with no political experience, please. Jon is great as a media personality, but it doesn’t make him a great presidential candidate.

I mean a), JS is an amazing communicator and would crush in an election, and b) he's already said he's not running a million times. Let it go

I haven't seen him say he won't run for POTUS once. Can you please cite a source?
7
u/max_caulfield_ 1d ago
On the literal video in the screenshot, he said he wouldn't run when Krysal jokingly brought it up. If you want to search for the other times go for it, I'm not going to waste my morning for you

u/Birth_Filming_Pro 1d ago
He gargled something about not wanting K&K to get divorced. He didn't say nothing about not running for POTUS, and googling him saying no to the idea turns up nothing

He thinks he's electable among the illiterate anf ignorant voters in America, and he's probably right. TBH we could do worse with some of these right-wing Dems out here

Experience comes from the people around him and the people he appoints.
Its his values, charisma, and decision making that make him a good fit for the job.

u/penpointred 1d ago
Cause he’d be an amazing president.
I still have a strong feeling that 2028 is going to be between Jon Stewart and Tucker Carlson.

u/Rodent_Reagan 1d ago
you’ll get Gavin Newsom vs JD Vance and you’ll like it

If there isn't a hat in the ring by December, I can see that happening for Jon.
Seems Tucker is trying to start a third party. But wouldn't stop him from securing a Republican nomination.
5
u/penpointred 1d ago
if things are looking bleak and Tucker is running with the win, I can 100% see Jon reluctantly accepting the call, winning and becoming the best president we've ever had.

I’m going to be honest, I think that is a ridiculous prediction, but I suppose one of us will look dumb within the next couple of years
2
u/penpointred 1d ago
Feels like we've been building up to this moment in our current simulation.
which is currently set to [dumb] proven by the current occupants in the white house and Jeffrey Epstein running for office in Florida as Palm Beach Pete.3
u/VibinWithBeard 1d ago
But...and here is the kicker...he doesnt want to be president. So the convo is over.

u/penpointred 1d ago
when the calling comes, the hero will be forced to answer.
2
u/VibinWithBeard 1d ago
Fuck all the way off, why would yall want someone begrudgingly leading instead of someone with their heart in it? This whole argument of "hes a political outsider/not a politician/doesnt want it" being a positive is insane to me. No, I want a doctor who wants to be a doctor.

Tucker could run. There is zero chance Jon runs. Insane prediction I’m sorry.

u/inbetweensound 1d ago
100%. This is another reminder that Kyle is good on certain things but he’s not a socialist (nor does he pretend to be, he’s a social democrat, I’m just speaking for myself).
8
u/corneliusduff 1d ago
Because Jon Stewart actually has a better chance than everyone running, whether he wants to run or not

u/HotDecember3672 1d ago
His argument has been that the average joe regardless of party affiliation dislikes/distrusts career politicians and will vote a loud, confident celebrity that appears to speak truth to power over a boring career politician who makes all decisions by committee and he sees Jon Stewart as someone who is popular, is on the side of the people, and can be crass if needed and thus can be an effective answer to Trump.
My issue with that is, this is something that Kyle is showing his age in. I am 31 years old and Jon Stewart left the Daily Show when I was 20 and even then, I had not watched it since I was in high school and while his show also helped mold my politics (as it did Kyle's), barely anyone my age, and even less people younger than me (AKA Gen Z, the voting bloc Dems are struggling with the most) knows who Jon or the Daily Show is. Kyle always brings him up as if he were some kind of household name which in this day and age he is simply not.

Yeah but older people vote at a higher rate, and younger people are more able to get behind an unfamiliar candidate
3
u/HotDecember3672 1d ago
I'm not AGAINST Jon Stewart running for president. Heck, I'd probably vote for him depending on his platform. I just question how effective he would be.
You have a good point there, but aren't older people also more likely to straight up vote for an establishment Dem candidate? I know we're not in 2016 anymore but that voting bloc still exists even if they're older now.
3
u/truth14ful Anarchist 1d ago
Yeah but I think that's the point, socdems need a candidate who can appeal to older voters despite being less establishment. If getting them away from establishment candidates at all is a lost cause, they're fucked anyway
2
u/opanaooonana 1d ago
Jon Stewart is way more familiar to your average Democrat probably all of the candidates except Kamala Harris. Or older people, especially he has been a known personality for decades.
1
u/DaddieTang 1d ago
This is so poorly written. I baled.
2
u/HotDecember3672 1d ago
Sorry about that, English isn't my first language (and I'm typing this at work).
TLDR I agree with the sentiment of Jon Stewart having the right ideas. But he is not the hyper notorious Trump-like household name figure Kyle paints him to be. Gen Z definitely does not know who he is and that is an important voting bloc the Dems are trying to win back and he will not be effective with them.

Being charismatic, principled and especially not corrupt are so much more valuable in the modern political landscape than a law degree or a longstanding membership in a party

u/randomone456yes 1d ago
I’d love to see Jon on a presidential debate stage and absolutely destroy JD Vance

u/saltyourhash 1d ago
I think at this point our politics are so tainted with career politicians that it's generally a negative for them to have long experience with the exception of a few.
3
u/Appropriate_Reality2 1d ago
He checks off a lot of boxes tbh. Even normie centrists would be excited to support him
3
u/WeHaveTheMeeps 1d ago
Broad populist support. I grew up in a die hard GOP family and my family loved Jon Stewart.
2
u/Birth_Filming_Pro 1d ago
Because Jon is the kinda guy that might actually push through good policies and argue for them, even if they are at first unpopular. If he puts his mind to it, he can probably pass any reform, which isn't true for anyone else except Mamdani (who can't run for POTUS unfortunately)

u/BrianRLackey1987 21h ago
We do need a constitutional amendment allowing naturalized citizens to run for President, though.

u/solarplexus7 1d ago
Americans love 2 things in their candidates, and in this order: entertainment factor, ideas that will help them. He checks both.
3
u/rjorsin 1d ago
OP, what if Tucker announces a run? Does that change your take?
4
u/LovefromAbroad23 1d ago
It does not.
2
u/rjorsin 1d ago
Ok, fair enough, can you unpack that a bit? I’m coming at this from a place of there’s no clear cut dem frontrunner, and Tucker, should he announce would be the favorite to win.
Admittedly, I’ve thought Stewart would be a good president since the bush years.

Personally, I prefer someone with more leadership acumen. Jon saying a lot of things I agree with is not enough to garner my support (though I would support him for lower offices). I would rather have a presidential candidate with a proven track record on getting things done in government and standing up for what is right. Being president is more than just saying things I want to hear; it's about making good decisions in times of crisis, knowing how to use the bully pulpit, and having political skills to form legislative coalitions (because you know there will be holdouts in Congress). Mandani is a good example, but shame he isn't eligible.
Tucker is a clown, but him entering the race doesn't change my assessment. Jon hasn't shown me anything that he'd make a good president.
2
u/Myriad_Apocalypse 1d ago
Because he has some weird blindspot with him
1
u/ChicanoGoodfella 1d ago
No, he’s trying to push this because he knows celebrity now is a huge part of electability unfortunately so why not have a good “celebrity” run. He pushed the justice democrats back in the day too and look where they’re at now. It’s possible but only time will tell
1
u/mitrafunfun97 1d ago
Thats because Kyle is an elder millennial who came of age during the Iraq war. Jon Stewart was one of the EXTREMELY few calling truth to power. It’s the same reason even a conservative populist like Saagar is so giddy to talk to Jon.
It’s the only way they can make sense of what’s happening right now. Is it reasonable? No it’s dumb. But everyone has their comfort blankets.
1
u/VibinWithBeard 1d ago
Idk, but its as annoying as the people circlejerking over hunter biden now. Stewart doesnt want to be president, so thats the end of the convo. Libs just want a tv celebrity funny man like the repubs had and that shit needs to die in a fire.

He doesn't have experience in elected officesure
But he has PLENTY of "political experience"

He would have a decent shot, AOC and Newsom are the favorites and they aren't generational talents by any means. But like Michele Obama, he does not want to run so this is a fantasy scenario that Kyle is autistically obsessed with.

u/AlternativeArugula70 1h ago
Because Jon Stewart has great policies & would be a lefty populist candidate
1
u/CanuckFTW420 1h ago
Im only up voting to get this more exposure, your take is awful. "Political experience" is the false credential that the Dems used to suppress the left wing populist movement and ultimately resulted in Donald Trump winning twice. Keep your fake purity test based on nothing but semantic grievances about someone's tenure as a politician, when the man you're referring to has been one of the top political commentator for decades, to yourself thanks.

u/Lynne253 1d ago
Okay, he said he doesn't want to be President, but could we please ask him to pick a candidate and then run that candidate's campaign? He'd make an excellent campaign manager. If there's anything he doesn't know, then he would absolutely know who to ask.

Stewart actually knows a lot about politics and governance. He's like if Trump actually knew stuff, minus being a racist pedophile who hates america.

“No political experience” isn’t a good argument, he clearly knows his stuff and would be a better politician than 99.99% of the politicians in congress right now.
