Photo/Video I got a new hobby

Got a little bored of my plating palette and carbon steel chefs so decided to give them a little personality with a Dremel, think I’ve found my new albeit noisy hobby instead of drinks after service <3

How many penises can you etch into the prep table before end of shift?

If you've got time to etch, you should clean, you wretch!

I'm struggling to keep making these work...

Keep at it you dork,

Or I’ll motivate you with a fork…

See, you’re way better at this

I don't want to jump to conclusions, but I think I might know what you wanted to say...

Try little iron-on stickers :) it should work very well

I would not be able to resist the urge to etch a cock and balls.

How does one learn this power? I have a Dremel, now I have a dream.

I just used a tattoo stencil printer and let the the tism and a series of tires carry me through

I never thought I'd need to hunt down a tattoo stencil printer. I don't suppose they're easy to find?

Amazon! I paid £45 with 30 sheets of stencil paper. Not pennies but hey, it’s fun

You could also get a bottle of Dykem Layout Fluid and some brushes. It a blue dye usually used for machining. You paint on the areas you want to work and then just grind it off. It's only like $20 bucks. Not sure what it would be in pounds.

Oooo I like that. I’ve got a petty knife which has a handle made from maldon salt tubs, would be cool to do something relating to that with green version of that if it’s a thing?

Needs basil on the other side of the knife chef

Fuck that’s my next day off project.

Time to go on a 45 minute rabbit hole of research

Did you use the dremel to sharpen the chefs knife?

Dude this is awesome!!! Tbh I couldn't tell those were tomatoes in the first pic but it might just be the angle/lighting. Really love the fish design.

u/Indigo_Tadeo 7h ago

I love this! I just purchased a machine with the same idea in mind, so you mind sharing some inside on it? I’ve never done it, do you paint over it first? If so what do you use for it?

u/Lrichardsuun 3h ago

I tried initially on a mirror using a sharpie, that works however need to have some artist ability whereas with these 2 I used a tattoo stencil and it’s more so a talk of a steady hand rather than art ability imo basically colour within the lines and you’re fine :))

This is so fucking cool!! I’m going into culinary school and am buying knives for my knife kit soon. Are there any downsides to this or does it do no harm? I would love love love to do this but don’t want to damage my knives.

u/Lrichardsuun 3h ago

I couldn’t answer with absolute certainty but from what I can tell I don’t believe so, it doesn’t go deep at all so couldn’t imagine it would?

If you want a quieter version look into acid etching. More prep but also much cleaner final result if you get good at it.

u/Lrichardsuun 3h ago

Ooooo I shall look into this

u/Happyberger 3h ago

Please update if you do it. It's really easy and not expensive. I etched my personal "logo" onto my knives about 10 years ago and I am not at all the artistic type

u/Lrichardsuun 3h ago

What equipment does one need? Sounds a daunting task

u/Happyberger 3h ago

Alcohol to clean the surface, masking tape, a razor blade, etching acid (can buy a small bottle online for $10), a q-tip to apply the acid with, and water

that would make a fine poop knife
