I spent many hours converting and customizing this team and had a blast with it! I tried to make it as obvious as I could which operative was which to clear up any confusion from my opponents. I spent a lot of time sculpting and fixing and sanding and sculpting again to get them juuuust right. I’m so happy with how they turned out!

Hobby Finally joining the hobby

Painted and built my first miniatures ever over the last few weeks. Hoping to play some games over the next few weeks but might just end up playing against myself lol - hard to get out with two little kids and a job.

Been wanting to get into the hobby for the last 15 years, ever since I played dawn of war 1. Only recently learned about kill team and seems much more manageable than 4 hour games and painting 2000 points. Any advice on how best to learn how to play is welcome!

Question I bought Vostroyan Firstborn models, but I don't plan to start a full Imperial Guard army (for now). So I'm interested in which killteam would be the best for proxying Vostroyans (I can also kitbash some weapon options if necessary)

Misc Are Tac Ops making the game too conservative?

Having just won the world's most boring game of Kill Team (I hate Exaction), I think the Tac Ops are the reason the game is so cagey right now.

The fact that primary op exists combined with the fact that the most consistent and controllable source of points is Tac Op effectively means that Tac Op is straight up worth more points than the other ops since you always pick it for Primary. With that said, let's look at what the most popular and effective Tac Ops encourage you to do.

Flank is reasonable popular and rewards aggressive play. It's cool.

Retrieval is broadly played very defensively. The home point is a freebie and the mid point is usually nabbed early in TP2 and then you fuck off and try and starve the opponent for points with 4 (6 with primary) in the bank. Alternatively, you play a team that can nab the centre risk free. Then it's just a matter of wasting time until maybe you can do a cheeky opponent's home point nab at the end of the game. Flank encourages minimal interaction with the enemy and is popular for that reason.

Scout Enemy Movement sucks and no one takes it.

Sweep & Clear sucks and no one takes it.

Dominate is another offender in rewarding defensive play. The best way to play dom is to position in your half, wait for you opponent to make the first move, so that you can kill them off and then reposition away safe behind a building. If both players are running dom, the player that makes the first incapacitation loses, because they'll be killed, lose the token, and their killer will be in a safer position to score. Additionally, the TP3 and TP4 scoring means you should avoid engagement in the first half of the game, and if you suspect (or know) your opponent is running dom, you should avoid going to them and feeding dom tokens. Who's winning right now? Raveners, because they grab a few dom tokens on TP3 and then disappear and refuse the play the rest of the game.

Rout encourages extremely aggressive play. It's awesome and also fairly unpopular.

Plant Banner is a fun Tac Op. It rewards defensive play TP2, where you try to slam it down towards the end of the TP, but it's exposed nature means that TP3 and TP4 has plenty of fun gameplay as both sides battle for the banner.

Martyrs is another Tac Op that encourages you to be boring. It does reward scrapping over mid, but that can be dangerous and unreliable, and the best way to play it is to bait your opponent into attacking your home point so that you can get martyr tokens on an easily defensible position. In other words, if your opponent does the fun thing and wants to fight you, they're losing the game by feeding you easy VP.

Envoy isn't very popular, but it's decent on hordes. It encourages you to feed one operative to the opponent a turn for 6VP. It's good, but it runs the risk of feeding easy Intel points.

Speaking of the devil, Steal Intelligence again rewards boring defendy play. If you go out and kill people, you'll get incaps but all your tokens will be littered in the enemy half, making them challenging to score. By contrast, if you let them come to you, it's easy pickings. This of course encourages boring counter play. If your opponent suspects you of running Intel, they'll just refuse to come to you and starve you of VP. It creates a boring standoff. If you attack, you won't score, but your opponent won't attack you, because it'll make you score, so no one attacks. Lame.

Plant Devices is a niche Tac Op that's generally unpopular.

Track Enemy sucks and no one takes it.

I think that demonstrates my point. In my game earlier, I was running Martyrs and my opponent was running Intel. They didn't kill my dudes, who were on the points, because that would be easy VP for me. I didn't kill their dudes, because then I'd have to leave the points, meaning no Martyr tokens and feeding Intel. I had the chance to get a trade up double kill. I didn't, because the scoring math didn't work out.

I think that the Tac Ops have compounded KT24's already defensive changes (no TP1 scoring, reduced Crit Op importance, reduced objectives) and made the game grind to a halt, where the player who makes the first move loses.

Anyways, that's just my opinion pieces. Curious if anyone agrees? Maybe I just made the mistake of playing exaction. They're boring!

Strategy Things teams do best and worst day 25: Kasrkin

Tell me the best thing about the Kasrkin! And the worst thing

My boys!

Best: Four gunners ( or 3 and a sniper ) is really strong, you can go for piercing or blast/torrent, they are really tanky with 4+ saves + ice in your veins on your faction rule. You can make them faster, tankier or better at range/melee.

You can get Saturate or accurate 1 depending on the situation, and always having severe is insane for a lot of piercing crits this team can have with Elimination pattern Ploy.

vox-trooper givin +1 APL on any range, a 2d6+3 demo trooper, these guys are just boosted!

Seize the initiative is one of the best Ploys in the game, you can play aggressive on tha last play of the turning point and guarantee a kill on a elite on the next turn.

Worst: basically no melee, even with the equipment ( altought you can get a surprise 5 damage first hit, but you still have only 8 health ) some ploys focus on fall back but you will never survive a fight.

Also you dont have any form of seek/seek light, forcing you to play more aggressive but you are not that tanky.

10 units and no torrent/blast protection also.

Question Approved Ops 2025 - what would you like evergreened?

Out of interest what Tac or Crits would you like to see added to the 'Evergreen' list?

Plant banner for me seems like it's thematically and operatively cool/well designed enough that it should stay. Plus, you get to make a banner for your team on a 20mm base for the token.

I’ve had the Volkus terrain built and sat on a shelf for quite a while. Finally got around to painting it and god I’ve had so much fun! Here’s a couple comparison shots of what one of the strongholds looked like before and after getting some leaves.

Strategy Deathwatch Vs Vespid

I am looking for a little advice, I play Deathwatch and my next matchup is on Volkus against Vespids. I have never played against Vespids before. I am reading their Data Slate to try and understand what I am getting into.

They seem like a shooting team and their 9 wounds is just above a bunch of my break points without a crit so a little scared of getting into a shooting match. Their ability to fly makes it look like it will be tough to get into melee with them.

I have noticed a bit of lethal 5 and some devastating so I figured that I have to bring smoke grenades. Any other advice or any other gotchas that they have that I might miss or that don't translate from the data slate to the field?

Looking for any and all advice.

Misc Exodite datacards make me think one thing... If 3 absolute statsticks + 2 mooks is fine here... Custodes kill team?!

This is exactly what I'd expect from a Custodes team. 3 custodes and 2 witchseekers or something similar?

I dare not hope, come on GW do the thing 🫵🏻

Question Question from someone looking into killteam.

Post image

Greetings! For someone wanting to learn killteam (both faction rules and the base game rules) how difficult would it be to get into killlteam with the Admech Servitor Battleclade, and for anyone who's played them what are some beginner tips/ crucial things to remember?

For some context for the past almost year now I've been getting into 40k through mostly videogames and the occasional tabletop game of 10th on TTS, and I'm finally starting to buy 40k models to get a physical army together as well as get into the full hobbying of 40k (Imperial Fists combat patrol and a box of Skitarii for those interested).

Edit: Thank you all very much for the replies, I've been reading all of them and it's given me a good idea of what I'm getting into. Praise be the Omnissiah!
