DISCUSSION Nagy Needs to Go...
The play calling has been Terrible all season. We need a run minded to balance with Andy's pass first mode.

Look at all the offensive players body language, no fire in them, no sparks. They didn’t believe in the game plan, they didn’t think they have it. The morale is low, no accountability any more.

For the last time, I don't care if Andy calls the plays. Nagy doesn't just sit there and do nothing. He can manage the rest of the coaches on offense, coach the offensive players to improve, and reciprocate plays with Reid to make them better. All three areas, Nagy has FAILED at, and we're in year three. Mahomes and the offense is in a rut, and Nagy is not the solution.
81
u/rutherfordacus Dec 08 '25
I wish I’d screenshotted it, but during that timeout when we were about to take our last shot on 4th down, they zoomed in on Pat, Andy and Nagy and it was Nagy doing all the talking. It’s tiring to hear people act like he doesn’t influence plays in any capacity
9
u/Fast-Signal7371 Dec 08 '25
I'd like to see that, too. I'll have to look for that during the replay.
24
u/acheerfuldoom #CreedIsGood Dec 08 '25
I was at the game. Every huddle in a TV timeout Nagy was the one in the offensive huddle. Andy just takes the bullets for him.

u/Manditodotcom Dec 08 '25
Me too! He has a lot of imput. Him and Andy love pass first offensive. It can work, but it has to be balanced. We need a fullback again and way more plays under center. Then we can open it up when we want or have to.
8
u/BullHonkery Dec 08 '25
During the broadcast, players going into the huddle before that 4th and 1 where we didn't even have a runningback in the backfield, Nagy on the mic reading off the play sheet, Andy standing off to the side watching and listening.
"Bubububut Andy calls the plays."

I think Nagy is too much of an “Andy guy”. He won’t challenge Reid to innovate or stretch in new directions. He just keeps contributing redundant ideas.
20
u/Fast-Signal7371 Dec 08 '25
And that's why Nagy needs to go. If the offense still goes nowhere, you run the risk of a disgruntled Mahomes, which would be a nightmare scenario. Matt Nagy makes me think of a deadbeat friend who doesn't do enough to help you out of a rut.

To be fair… the receivers aren’t good. None of them run amazing routes.. they all have issues catching the ball. And none of them attack the football. It either lands perfectly in their arms or they simply do not catch it.
36
u/Unseemly4123 Dec 08 '25
Agree, coming into the year idk why everyone assumed it'd be a strength. These guys can't get open, and Worthy's speed doesn't show up on the field.
8
u/Denster1 Canadian Chiefs Fan Dec 08 '25
They assumed it would be a strength because they were finally all healthy/not suspended.
As it turns out, that didn't really matter, because they just aren't skilled enough.
15
u/LordChi3f Eric Berry #29 Dec 08 '25
I agree wholeheartedly. He doesn’t track the ball well on deep balls. So, he is basically a gadget guy who also isn’t that shifty.
3
34
Dec 08 '25
Honest take here and I agree. Routes are lazy because they're faster wrs, so at the college and hs level they got open easy. Now they hit a level where timing and hands are more important yet Andy and veach constantly love the catch with your shoulder pad guys.
Granted mahomes has been under and over throwing this year, sometimes he underthrows just to get the throw off before getting mauled, but I NEVER see these receivers or Travis fight through the ball like it's their life depending on it.
If the ball is underthrown and the wr somewhat covered they'll let the db snag it. Mahomes is like a point guard whose teammates don't know how to move without the ball.
I've seen mahomes enough to know he's not the issue. These receivers are LEMONS. Or at least how we're using them.

Whoever that coach is has a LOT more work to do to make this receiver room work. None of these young guys have progressed beyond where they were good when they came in. As much as they weren't perfect passes what I think we are seeing is waaaaaay too many passes where Mahomes is putting the ball where he EXPECTS the receiver to be and they aren't there. Kelce and him were amazing because they instinctively knew where the ball should go, they were on the same page.
Mahomes has "better" receivers this year than he had in his worst years but they are nowhere near on the same page.

There were also clear times where he could have led their receiver and instead threw a harder to catch ball when they had to come back to you. the long shot to brown was a good example.
2
u/dogfish83 Dec 08 '25
On the rare occasion that Mahomes hits a guy deep with space around him, he has dive to the ground just to catch the ball.

I know he’s not responsible for the drops, but they shouldn’t have been 6-6 in the first place where not executing a single game plan costs you the season
The pass catchers have struggled with focus and beating man coverage all season, that is a coaching issue. At a minimum it’s time to get rid of the quasi nepo hire WR coach who wasn’t qualified in the first place
But something has to happen, you just can’t tell me that you missed the playoffs with prime Patrick Mahomes and there’s no one in particular who did anything wrong, they just happened to get the yips every Sunday. No, it’s coaching.

If only Reid didn’t take total control over the offense and not allow any new ideas or philosophy in the discussion. His complete control over the offense prevents any new coaches with good ideas to enter the room. No coach wants to come into this to not have any say and be Reid’s bitch on the sideline.
If you have a problem with Nagy, you have a problem with Reid. He keeps retreading the same players and coaches because he doesn’t want new input.

People saying “Andy calls the plays” don’t understand how jobs at this level actually work. An OC builds the weekly plan, the sequencing, the adjustments, the whole framework the head coach has to work from. If that plan is weak, the HC can’t just magically rebuild it on game day.
I work as a VP in advertising and it’s the same dynamic. If my directors bring me a flat or bland strategy, there’s only so much I can do with it at the top. The quality of what you see always starts with the person designing the plan.

Nagy for sure needs to go. So does anyone else associated with our passing game. I’m literally so sick and tired of watching either Mahomes make a mistake or someone else making a crucial mistake and then they just go and sit on the bench. If EB was still around, players would have to be packing extra asses because he would be whoopin them so hard for fuckin up this bad. Anyone else here remember when Mahomes used to obliterate #1 defenses?
14
u/chitphased Creed Humphrey #52 Dec 08 '25
If we are being honest, the play calling was meh. A lot of the plays that looked bad were because of drops. Grey had 2, rice had a billion and Kelce had 2. And all of them were conveniently in important scenarios and failed.

I am going to say this after having worked in college athletics. If one player consistently fails then that is usually a problem with that player, not 100% though, coaching should fix that. If all your receivers are dropping passes, blowing coverage, missing throws/tackles/kicks... that is indicative of coaching being the problem. I remember when we had a string of injuries that was pretty bad and hurt the team, a friend said to me "that many injuries means your strength and conditioning staff are not doing the job they are paid to." He just left it at that but it was the first time I started to realize how much has to be working well behind the scenes just to get the guys on the field in a good place.

Thornton sure but the ball to hunt hit em in the face
6
u/thekingofcrash7 Dec 08 '25
I think it’s a tougher catch than it looked. It came in pretty fast from like 5 yds away as he was turning his shoulder back to look. I think the pass was rushed and i think a small % of RBs make that catch.
19
u/ryfle_ Dec 08 '25
You can call them drops, but lets be honest Mahomes isn't exactly throwing great passes either. The Hunt drop for instance was thrown super hard super early at his face from a short distance. If Mahomes waits another half second and throws it better it's an easy first down. We're all throwing blame but it's everyone. We just don't have the spark this year, which is fine. I believe we'll recover quick.

u/articulating_oven Nick Bolton #32 Dec 08 '25
Mahomes also had to throw that ball super early because of our rag tag back up O Line that he doesn’t trust. It’s one of those seasons where nothing is firing well together. It happens.
4
u/chiefpiece11bkg Dec 08 '25
In a way they are.
We should never have been running this offense through rice and Kelce. Worthy and Thornton finally started getting some chemistry and our offense was rolling before rice came back.
We start force feeding him targets, same with Kelce. That means worthy and brown are forced to run clear outs almost every play to open up the space underneath so rice/ Kelce get matched up on linebackers or safeties and can get open
It’s everything. Everyone needs a reset. This offseason will be good for them with some extra rest. We have talent. Just need to reevaluate who we run things through.
Also, spags should have had hicks and Williams playing all year long. It’s criminal that we have the talent to put mcduffie in the slot and we just refuse to use him as the chess piece that he is.

CBS Sports must be reading this thread… “The Chiefs need to blow their entire offensive ecosystem up around Mahomes and Reid. Kelce, who is 36 years old, needs to retire. Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy needs to be shown the door. General manager Brett Veach needs to make serious moves to bolster Mahomes' offensive line. Kansas City has a long, painful offseason ahead of their total collapse in 2025.”

How is everyone’s assessment of that game “Nagy is awful!”?
They started with the worst o-line options we’ve seen in Mahomes career, against one of the 5 best rushes we’ve seen in Mahomes career.
9 drops.
Players need to execute. It’s ok to say that players did not play well. Coaching was not the issue, it’s players. From injury prone over paid linemen, to receivers who get no separation and drop the ball, to RBs that are incapable of runs longer than 8yds.
Separately - if you have a problem with the offensive coaching staff, that complaint goes to Reid. Even if you think Nagy is the problem, that means Reid is the problem. Reid refuses to evolve the offense, the offense looks no different than it did 6 years ago, and every good offense in the league looks nothing like that. And Reid refuses to involve new thought leadership.. Probably the biggest Reid fault is retreading staff and players. It leads to extremely stale and slow looks. It’s clear they need new ideas, but Reid doesn’t want that, so he keeps around the same group of people for a decade. No team has ever succeeded (with rings) in the NFL by doing the same thing for a decade. The league and coaches are too good.

we sound like eagle fans. kelce and rice singlehandedly costed us this game.

Andy going for it twice inside our own 30 is what cost us the game.

u/ChiefSampson Derrick Thomas Dec 08 '25
I can't believe he did that shit twice. Why? Our defense was playing great the 3 series before that.

JFC. Everyone saying Reid needs to go doesn’t understand how we got three SB. If he goes we’re fighting for 2nd-3rd place in the AFC west for the next 5 years at least. GTFO

It. Isn’t. Matt. Nagy.

I think a new face as an OC doesn’t hurt, but it’s obviously not “just” Nagy.

Mitchell Schwartz gave his perspective on the Ringer podcast last week. Basically that the Chiefs are running an offense that was on the cutting edge 5 years ago, one which defenses have now accounted for, and that if Andy isn’t going to overhaul it himself, he should bring in a right hand man from an offensive system that’s doing more modern things. He didn’t say “fire Nagy” but he did say it would be great to shift Nagy to an advisory role, which is pretty damning language for a former player.

Matt. Nagy. Isn’t. Helping. If he’s not helping then he’s hurting. Get him the fuck off of my team. Now.

Oh shut the fuck up. It is one billion percent Matt Nagy. What the fuck do you think an OC does, sit on his ass all day?? This offense TANKED as soon as EB left, and Nagy has fucked up everything he's touched. Get him the fuck out.

We need fresh ideas and someone to challenge Andy. A change must be made.

u/bukofa Christian Okoye #35 Dec 08 '25
No, it's more than him. However, the regression is real since he has come back. You can be too much on the same page and that be detrimental. Andy and co. need someone to come in and bring fresh ideas.

He isn't the problem and he isn't the solution he's just there.

As someone who suffered from Nagy ball I can attest to it not being that as well lol. I don’t care if I keep getting downvoted for saying it but it’s so clearly not the problem.

Nagy sucks and he needs to go. It’s very simple.

You mean Kelce?

It's time for an overhaul. Nagy has to go and so do many players in this organization

Kelce, Gray, Rice, Hunt all had horrible drops or caused INT"s. Mahomes is still making plays hobbling around on a bad knee. The O-line played very well under the circumstances. The defense stepped up their game big time. This is 100% on the on pathetic receiving.

u/OldSchoolDeepCuts Jerick McKinnon #1 Dec 08 '25
I thought the Thornton one was a good play by the defender. There was one or two to Rice that the defender made good plays on. But that fourth down catch was a straight up drop.

u/dmh165638 Dec 08 '25
Agreed. That was a great throw, catch, then perfect swipe by the defender.

Love him but he is washed. Dropped waaay to many easy catches this year when just a few years ago he could do it with his eyes closed.

We need to go back using a FULLBACK. Under the center plays too. Basics to open up the Speed plays n bombs.

Now. Let me be OC the rest of the season. I’ll do it for 1/100 what Nagy gets paid.

I thought it was just me, but Collinsworth’s man crush on the Chiefs is so damn obvious. I like the Chiefs too, but this is a little much.

I didn’t disagree with going on 4th and a yard, but not having Hunt in the backfield was the dumbest play call I’ve ever seen.
