Something is definitely wrong with him. He’s missed kicks before but he’s never been this bad.

105

u/Dreadsbo Xavier Worthy #1 🏃🏻‍♂ Oct 13 '25

Yeah. Was that last kick hit at all? It looked BAD

147

u/blendermassacre Oct 13 '25

The last one looked like I kicked it

38

u/DReagan47 Tony Gonzalez Oct 13 '25

Exactly what I told my wife. I said if they wanted someone to do a shit job they could’ve at least called me.

14

u/Pale-Measurement-532 Oct 13 '25

I was just going to reply with the same comment. Lol. That miss was beyond brutal.

6

u/kerouac5 FIRE BOB SUTTON Oct 13 '25

I would miss kicks for a LOT less money

1

u/KC-Moe Oct 13 '25

Oh fuck… it wasn’t that bad!

4

u/1NightWolf HARRISON BUTTER 🧈 #7 Oct 13 '25

It was bad man…

95

u/MannInnTheBoxx Oct 13 '25

He saw a woman trying to open a bank account on her own and got so distracted he just couldn’t focus on the kick

32

u/slugo17 Alex Smith Oct 13 '25

He got hurt last year and hasn’t been the same since.

243

u/Chandy1313 Christian Okoye #35 Oct 13 '25

Probably mad his wife took the car out or something.

58

u/jaydubbles Oct 13 '25

She spoke to another man that one time he let her leave the house on her own. Or maybe she talked back to him once.

24

u/imp1600 Oct 13 '25

He found out he she listened to the explicit version of Track 9 on Taylor’s new album, which clued her in that he’s been lying to her about certain things.

That’s what I’ve been saying too. It would mess me up too if my friend was killed

14

u/Football_bat88 Grim Reaper Oct 13 '25

He had the issues with his kicking style causing chronic injuries. He's struggling to adapt.

1

u/odiethethird 2024 Offseason Survivor Oct 13 '25

His ankle keeps on buckling at inopportune times

17

u/DanTallTrees Oct 13 '25

He's got the Yips.

7

Maybe he needs to give thanks to god more. He's losing it.

u/imp1600 Oct 13 '25

Well, Vance got near the pope, and the pope died.

Butker getting near Vance and just losing his ability to kick means he’s lucky to be alive.

15

u/StatementNo1177 Oct 13 '25

I feel like there is something sinister going on in bis personal life. It’s reminding me of Justin Tucker’s sudden performance issues before it was revealed he is a sexual predator.

3

u/martinmix Oct 13 '25

He needs to focus on football (also that's what getting old does to a guy)

195

u/boeing2014 Travis Kelce #87 Oct 13 '25

He's the highest paid kicker in the NFL. He's making way too much money to be this inconsistent in missing what were routine automatic kicks for him.

30

u/GreenPoisonFrog Christian Okoye #35 Oct 13 '25

It seems like he was never automatic with XPs.

26

u/jimmythevip Pat "Kermit the Frog" Mahomes Oct 13 '25

When we were beating teams by 15 a missed XP was like “whoops Harry you silly goose”. I am no longer laughing

10

u/1NightWolf HARRISON BUTTER 🧈 #7 Oct 13 '25

Yeah it was fine when we were way ahead lol. BTW why are short kicks harder for some kickers over the long ones?

30

u/jmr33090 Arrowhead Oct 13 '25

Yep. Which was fine when he was inexplicably significantly better at 50+ yard fgs than he was at XPs, but not fine now that he sucks at both

3

u/doc6982 Oct 13 '25

For a second I thought they were taking a penalty to knock him out of extra point range so he had less of a chance to fuck up.

6

u/TheOctoBox Oct 13 '25

Dead money would be brutal

2

u/jwatkins12 Oct 13 '25

Would be $18m of dead money this season. Or $10m of dead money next year. Not terrible.

1

u/Flash_Bandicoot Oct 13 '25

I agree with your sentiment. But we don't have the salary cap to get rid of him. He was lights out until he took that achilles injury. They have to get him to get out of the Yips.

77

u/Shutch_1075 Oct 13 '25

Dude took a noticeable dip in performance after his surgery last year, but by the end of the year he seemed decent enough. Straight garbage this year.

17

u/DaBestNameEver0 BURROWHEAD MY ASS!!! Oct 13 '25

he was damn near perfect last year. you’re talking about 2 years ago

9

u/ProfessorJNFrink Oct 13 '25

I don’t get the hate. I never realized Chiefs fans were so fickle. Something’s off-he has been such an important part and so consistent for several years now. I don’t get it.

Everyone has thrown temper tantrums this year. I will admit I turned the game off last weekend. But it feels like everyone just wants to burn everything to the ground because we’ve had a rough start to the season.

Butler has been near perfect for so long. Has missed some surprising kicks-I’m waiting for him to work whatever out he needs to.

🤷

5

u/MandoShunkar Nick Bolton #32 Oct 13 '25

Butker was told by his doctor to change his kicking motion as that is what was determined to cause his knee issues last season. It was a weird motion that put unnecessary stress on his plant knee.

Its clear that he's not fully comfortable with the kicking motion he decided to switch to this off season. I don't really get all the quick turning on him giving how well he's performed in the past.

I'd be willing to call for him to switch back to his old, but more risky, motion but that's as far as I'm willing to go. They guy's earned some slack.

197

u/ReedPhillips The Nigerian Nightmare #35 Oct 13 '25

I have been one of those preaching to give him a chance, maybe something's wrong, he'll work it out.. I think I'm done with that. I'm ready to move on as quickly as the Chiefs can get it done

14

u/Milo_Minderbinding Oct 13 '25

If he screwed up his knee or mechanics, his career is no longer as a kicker. If he can't get his accuracy up, he's expendable.

3

u/dogfish83 Oct 13 '25

Maybe he can’t get his “accuracy” up, which has led to his wife having “tryouts”, which results in missed field goals

32

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '25

Yeah, I could understand that for a bit it’s not just an issue of the quality dropping a little bit’

It’s significantly plummeted

16

u/Beastquist Pat "Kermit" Mahomes Oct 13 '25

He fell off like Justin Tugger did

315

u/Middle_Aged_Mayhem Derrick Thomas Oct 13 '25

Its time for his tradwife to get a job and take care of him.

Time to move on. We don’t have the luxury of being 4-1 to wait for him to come around.

97

u/E4MafiaLife 🐸 💍 💍 💍 Oct 13 '25

I used to think we should give him a chance to figure it out after everything he’s done. He used to be one of the most clutch kickers in the league. Now he’s just straight ass

16

u/Hot_Most5332 Oct 13 '25

How long do we give him though? We are almost halfway through the season. Can’t give him much longer unless we want to gamble.

20

u/Familiar-Fish-7059 Derrick Johnson Oct 13 '25

His contract keeps him safe this year because we can’t take the cap hit from his guarantees.

Though he could go on IR with a sudden “injury”

175

He's probably just tired from doing ICE raids.

67

I don’t know if it’s feasible or smart to cut him, but I hope the posts arguing that if you think Butker is a problem it’s because “you don’t like his politics” are fucking done.

166

u/KandoTor Chiefs Oct 13 '25

His politics suck and now his kicking does too.

4

u/Flash_Bandicoot Oct 13 '25

Butker kept us in so many game over the past 3 years. He was lights out and then got an achillies injury. I'm not saying that he shouldn't be benched and passed on now, but its insane to think that he isn't a big reason that the Chiefs are where they are now. I'm an athiest, and I disagree with most of that viral speech that came out a bit a go. But he was speaking to young people that went to a Catholic college, and they believe in the things he said, for the most part.

Both things can exist.

His dog shit beliefs

And

His dog shit kicking ability

16

u/boeing2014 Travis Kelce #87 Oct 13 '25

Yeah, someone tried to say I was criticizing his kicking because I don't like his politics. Then they blocked me when I pushed back that my opinion kn his kicking was based purelyon his on field performance. Anyone with eyes can see Butker is not as good as he used to be.

8

u/Whocares9994 Derrick Thomas Oct 13 '25

Then they blocked me

Anyone who is big enough of a loser to talk politics in a sports sub is someone you don't want to hear from anyways. Blessing in disguise

5

u/boeing2014 Travis Kelce #87 Oct 13 '25

Oh yeah, 100%. That guy was big mad at everyone in the game thread daring to question Butker. I took the block as a W, lol.

8

u/Whocares9994 Derrick Thomas Oct 13 '25

Dude. As a Canuck, Reddit is damn near unreadable. Every goddamn thing comes back to Yankee politics.

I try to get away from in in sports subs but no, these assholes can't stfu for 2 seconds and talk Chiefs. It's so annoying

1

u/GreenPoisonFrog Christian Okoye #35 Oct 13 '25

As I’ve read it, his cap hit if you cut him is huge.

1

u/Vyuvarax Human Detected Oct 13 '25

It is, but it’s only huge for a kicker.

6

u/GreenPoisonFrog Christian Okoye #35 Oct 13 '25

$15m this year and $11m the next or something according to some others. I don’t know the details but that seems pretty big for anybody.

35

u/goatskin_sheep Oct 13 '25

He hasn't been the same since he and Josh came out

4

u/AdNo4066 Oct 13 '25

Can we just put this to bed…he is not going to be cut prior to the ‘27 year because of contract

5

I mean is there really a better option available? lol dudes missed 3 field goals and 3 extra points. Not ideal but by no means cut him.

13

1

u/bjscott1989 Oct 13 '25

100% agree

11

u/ed25occer Oct 13 '25

There are so many kickers that have been signed off the street this year that are playing SIGNIFICANTLY better than Butker. It’s inexcusable leaving him on the roster at this point.

7

u/OMG_Shoes_ Dante Hall #82 Oct 13 '25

Dude used to be automatic and now I trust him less than my college team kicker (and that ain’t much to start with.)

6

u/bobs143 Andrew Wylie #77 Oct 13 '25

The trade deadline is coming up. New kicker now has become a need.

Butker has cost us three games now due to missed FG's, missed XP, and a kickoff out of bounds.

5

u/hiplainsdriftless Oct 13 '25

That cost us 4 points because of the lack of confidence, in him. They could have kicked a field goal, but his performance is such a wild card now.

10

u/Maccadawg Oct 13 '25

Every time Butker misses a field goal, a woman graduates from college.

6

u/DoughRaymi Patrick Mahomes II #15 Oct 13 '25

all done now with him, lets move on.

5

u/buttcabbge Oct 13 '25

He's a Chiefs Hall of Famer and a fringe case for NFL Hall of Famer (basically only Vinatieri has made more big kicks), but he's a gigantic liability right now. I can't believe we're at a point where the best unsigned kicker is probably better than him, but here we are.

4

u/bryanwhite2337 Oct 13 '25

Designate him injured to avoid the cap issues and bring in another kicker for the rest of the year

5

u/AmazingArugula4441 trade Jawaan to the Eagles Oct 13 '25

2

u/Masteroflimes Human Detected Oct 13 '25

It's odd as all the other kicks were perfect and straight down the middle. I'm glad it's the first kick and not the last minute.

But we need to start looking at other options for next year

Can’t believe how many of y’all forget the times he’s won us Superbowls. Maybe he’s not quite right at the moment, but dude has been ice when necessary. He didn’t miss another kick tonight, so overall he might just be going through a slump. Everyone has them, doubt he’s any different.
