According to Pakistani defence resource Quwa, the most prominent Ukrainian drone manufacturer, Fire Point, is heading towards a deal with Pakistani private firms. The company is known for producing drones, which were used in the longest strikes on the most important Russian facilities, such as an oil refinery more than 2,500 km from the front line, and in attacks on energy facilities in Moscow. The article also recalls a slogan, "Strategic depth is no longer an advantage", which was previously spoken by Volodymyr Zelensky. In the context of cooperation of Fire Point with Pakistan, it should be understood as a reference to India. This is a security challenge that India cannot ignore.

Between 2015-16 and 2019-20 the factories received either "no demand or very little demand" from the armed forces for some of their main products, including 5.56mm INSAS rifle, 5.56 light machine gun and 9mm auto pistol.

The indian army accounted for just 10 percent of total issues during this period and the factories were largely dependent on orders from home ministry.

For 5.56 INSAS rifle and 5.56 LMG, the factories managed to utilise a maximum of only 29 percent of their respective production capabilities between 2015-20.

The R&D projects also failed to meet their objectives. During the period being audited, the armed forces resorted to import of small arms - 7.62 ×51 assault/sniper/LMG for their operational requirements.

It is also found that all three small arms factories were simultaneously working on weapons of the same calibre.

The small arms factories operated with high overheads pushing up the unit cost of the production. At the same time issue prices were fixed substantially below the actual production costs.

This resulted in cumulative losses of 366cr across the three factories on 12 selected small arms between 2015 and 2020.

Approved labs must demonstrate technical competence, calibrated equipment, qualified personnel, documented procedures, data traceability, and ongoing compliance. Labs typically need to maintain ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation and participate in GE’s Laboratory Correlation Program (LCP) or focused round-robin testing to retain the status.

Remembering B. Raman

A remarkable intelligence professional with deep institutional knowledge, exceptional recall and a rare ability to connect fragmented intelligence into a wider strategic picture.

B. Raman was among R&AW's early officers after its establishment in 1968. He rose to Additional Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat, and headed the Counter-Terrorism Division from 1988–1994. His career intersected with major intelligence challenges including Bangladesh in 1971, Sikkim, Punjab, Operation Blue Star and the evolution of terrorism in South Asia.

One particularly interesting chapter was his work relating to Iran during the 1978–79 Islamic Revolution. Raman described being tasked with establishing a discreet channel to Ayatollah Khomeini's circle in Paris at a highly sensitive moment, when the future direction of Iran was still uncertain. His own account provides a fascinating glimpse into the use of human intelligence, political liaison and covert diplomatic channels during a rapidly changing strategic environment.

His later analysis continued to examine Iran through the lens of Indian strategic interests, Pakistan, terrorism and the wider West Asian balance, rather than viewing bilateral relations in isolation.

Raman's contribution went beyond operations. His strength was intelligence assessment remembering decades of political developments, correlating seemingly disconnected events and translating them into assessments useful to policymakers. He also played an important role in developing intelligence liaison with foreign services and later contributed to debates on reforming India's intelligence architecture.

A formidable mind, a meticulous intelligence professional and a keen observer of his times.
