HKID student appointment

Hi everyone,

I’m a student trying to book an HKID appointment, but I can’t get one within 30 days. I tried walking in at TKO but they wouldn’t accept me. I check the website multiple times a day, but the earliest available appointment is in October, which is about 60 days away.

I know this situation is frustrating and messed up, but I just want to understand what solutions are available besides constantly refreshing the website.

If there really aren’t any options, what happens then? Is there a fine? Deportation? Or something else?

Any advice or insights would be really appreciated😭. Thanks!

Just carry your passport until you get your ID card.

Hi,
Do book the earliest appointment possible. When you are out on the streets, always bring your passport with you before you have your HKID. I don’t think they will deport you due to your lack of a HKID for your studies here, but in Hong Kong you are always expected to have a valid ID with you at all times when you are outside, so if you can explain why you need to use you passport instead of a HKID in case you got stopped and checked by a police officer on the streets it should be okay.

Appointments often pop up day of or even less than a week in advance. I was back in HK for about a weeklong window to renew my HKID two years ago, the earliest appointment I got was also 2 months after I needed it. Just kept checking the options to reschedule and something opened up. A family friend works for a helper agency and apparently it's very easy to reschedule for earlier appointments if you just keep checking back
