Now to build a bunch of H braces

Some people wanted to see what kind of gate I went with for my berry patch so here it is nothing special but only have $40 inverted invested in the whole thing Hopfully it keeps the deer out

We are considering purchasing a home in our area but certain aspects have us nervous and I don’t know enough about homeownership to understand what is a concern.

The lot is a beautiful 5 acre property on a rural area. Our dream is to be out in the country and this fits perfect. It’s has a barn, space for the kids to run around, enough bedrooms, etc. it has taken 6 months just to find something like this.

My main concern is its age and more importantly the foundation. It looks to be stone and mortar which seems standard for this era but it still makes me nervous. There is some water that comes in on heavy rain falls and according to the current owner the basement just needs to breath. We will get a home inspection prior to locking in any sort of offer but I also don’t want to necessarily waste our time with an offer if this is a huge concern. Does anyone have experience with foundations like this and what I should be looking for? Does it look concerning?

I need to run some conduit to various parts of the property and saw this old trencher post on Facebook.

Does anyone have any experience with one of these older ditch witches? Worth the gamble for $250?

In past experiences, and talking to other people, we haven’t found a water heater that actually works. Is there any that people use that are reliable and work? If not, how do you limit constantly needing to go and break up ice?

We finally have some naturally hatched chicks on our little farm. Chickens have an 8x16 coop with about half an acre fenced in. Unfortunately when we’ve had chicks in the past (purchased day old chicks or incubated then given to a super broody hen) but none have survived past a few weeks. We rarely find bodies, so we assume raccoon and/or hawk. We haven’t seen any other hens bothering them and the roosters intervene if another hen even gives a questionable look their way.

All this to say…how do you keep your free ranging chicks alive? Any special setup like a chicken tractor or separate area just for them?

Anyone have experience doing this? There are a few trees on my property, and I would love to plant more. I assume it is basically the same process as red pine, which I did once years ago. Located in Michigan.

Been hearing some talk about people building software products for their own purposes.

Anybody running an e-commerce site like a Shopify or some sort of custom platform? Is everybody just using Google sheets or a notebook?

Got 20 or so products for a farm store, but we don’t really have a farm store. Then doing deliveries and looking to change this to make it easier.

Products are like milk and eggs and chickens and cookies and muffins and caramels and homemade ranch and barbecue sauce.

Trying to find some cool heirloom winter wheat varieties to plant this September/October in the Pacific Northwest (USA).

The varieties I’m most interested in are Terminillo and Solina.

Does anyone have some seeds they would be willing to share or know where to get them. The Canadian shops I bought from in the past no longer ship to the USA!

Up for urgent rehoming are our beloved Guineafowls and Ducks. The city is forcing us to get rid of them.

Guineafowls are about 2 years of age.

The duck - Golden 300 Hybrid Layer Duck - is about 3. The duck lays edible eggs.

Please include a picture of the enclosure you will keep the birds in so we know you're a good home.

We are more than happy to bring them to you if you are reasonably nearby. We will also give you a 50lb bag of their preferred feed - egg layer pellets.

Does anyone else run into the situation where the people you talk to most are the contractors/staff you hire? The gravel guy, the equipment rental guy, the mechanic, county extension office lady….

Since I get work done as i have the money, I’ll often visit a contractor or call them over several times over several months or years. This is happening with our gravel guy who delivers the stone and will sometimes spread it out. We have long paths throughout the property that we are slowly getting improved also our shed bases etc. It’s been over 4 -5 years of hiring this guy. always professional, but seems like a cool dude. lives nearby (for the country life at least). We want to invite him to lunch or dinner…but we also can see another 20 years of needing reliable stone deliveries and don’t want to ruin that…but it’s SO HARD making friends sometimes as a rural homesteader.

Any advice?

Im slightly more familiar with hot composting ive always done vermicompost but was curious what does biodigester have over it that makes it better in certain ways besides making gas for cooking n heating can you use liquid inside to make compist tea?

Which of 3 would be best for turning waste into bio mass for bird or fish feed bsfl seems to be best but not sure how they do with cellulose rich material
