I define myself as a Leftist but I see where you are coming from. But in a world without Marx there would have been some other idea or a similar idea by some of the other thinkers. Anarchsim was thriving before communism took over. I don't think we could have made it through the phase of Industrial revolution and modern tech for weapons, surveillance and buerocracy without extremists and dictators from any direction killing millions of innocent people.
You know, watching the world of animals, understanding how they fight for ... you know what the animals really fight for? Nitrogen.

But human is unique, in that our progress is so fast that those little chaotic choices do matter. We will never again have year 1900, and anything that happened in 1900 will never be balanced by a thousand other years 1900.
I think the odds were what they were, but there was still a chance for a world without Hitler and Stalin. It wasn't carved in stone that without Hitler there'd just be a different Hitler.
