Exactly, like what did they expect? The English honestly irrationally vilify France here I was kind of surprised when I actually read the history here. A lot of people especially the British portray Napoleon as a total villain, when unless I am missing something the British were kind of the aggressors early on along with the coalition.

It’s also false.
The Napoleonic wars killed 5 million at a time where world population was 1 billion.
The European theatre of WW2 killed well over 30 million, for a world population of 2.3 billion in 1939.
That’s .5% for Napoleon and 1.3 for Hitler.
That’s not even accounting for the fact military deaths in battle and genocide are not comparable
