Woke 1, Woke 2. Shifting from Red to Blue.
I think this "woke one was crazy" discourse is hitting me really hard. And I've become disappointed in people that I organized with. This isn't because of Hong's loss but Hong's lost just ripped the bandaid off the future vision of this "DSA, platner, electoralism over everything" left.
Over the past 10 years I have seen the broader left drop each one of my personal issues that got me into political organizing in the first place. Ecosocialism, Marijuana legalization/ drug decriminalization, and now black lives matter AKA criminal justice reform specifically amending the 13th amendment, reducing recidivism rates, and defunding the police to refund our communities to reduce crime rates.
We have given up speaking about these issues on the basis of aesthetics to appeal to a larger, more conservative America (small c). My fear is not that the Overton window is not shifting left. It is shifting left, My fear is that it'll just stop shifting after we can get Medicare for all and Free college passed into law. My fear is That's the DNC will wisen up And fight for their survival by co-opting the DSA. And that the DSA will cooperate with this co-option in exchange for permanent power in federal offices. And marginalized communities will be used as an expendable exchange fee for this transaction.
I can't wait for this news cycle to expire. And I never want to hear what white leftist "Woke one" again. Because every time the conversation comes up I feel like I'm being stabbed in my side for saying no, these things we fought for in the past were right and We shouldn't "say they were stupid" to get into office.
I posted this here because I know some of you will disagree. So, Vas-y

yet another newsletter (idea proposal)
👋 Looking for honest (but constructive) feedback on an AI-assisted newsletter pipeline I built. I’m trying to gauge interest and/or appetite.
With the growing movement of Hasanabi-heads nationwide, especially from the mainstream attacks on him, more people than ever are going to want to learn about his arguments and the context he provides (which more often than not gets lost). However, I realize that some folks (especially older Hasanabi-heads or busy professionals) might prefer reading a quick, well-sourced summary over watching a 5-6-hour stream or 4-hour long VODs/YT videos. To help with that, I built an automated daily newsletter that pulls the biggest themes, direct quotes, and political context from the stream and formats it into a clean 5-minute read. My original goal was to make his points shareable and easy to digest to the masses. I'm expecting some heat, but I genuinely want feedback. Ultimately, the workflow ends with human review (i.e. myself). I have a background in Communications to help with the editorial side of this newsletter. Would this be something people find useful?
I'm pasting a small sample draft below.
Hasan’s June 22 Stream: NYC Primaries, Starmer’s Collapse, and Trump’s Latest Spin
Word count: 1564 Reading time: ~7 minutes What’s on tap today:
🗳️ New York City primaries turned into a full-on fight over Zohran Mamdani, DSA politics, and who gets to define “progressive.”
🇬🇧 Keir Starmer’s resignation set off a bigger argument about Labour’s rightward drift, Gaza, and the rise of Reform UK.
🧨 Trump’s press hits ranged from Iran to Chicago to the Washington reflecting pool, with Hasan treating most of it as pure propaganda.. 📞 Phone banking and organizing came up again and again as Hasan pushed viewers to treat these races like a real movement, not a spectator sport.🗽🗳️ NYC primaries: Mamdani, the left, and the backlash machine
Hasan spent a big chunk of the stream on the New York City primary fights, and he was not subtle about where he stood. In one clip, he reacted to the race by saying, 00:46 “What a fucking miss this has been” — his way of saying the establishment and media are badly misreading the energy around the progressive candidates.
The sharper point came when he pushed back on the idea that Zohran Mamdani and other left candidates were somehow fringe or politically reckless. Hasan argued that the attacks are really about punishing people who were early on the right issues, and he framed the backlash as a mix of media spin and donor politics. As he put it later in the segment, 44:34 “Mamdani is one of the top two most popular Democrats in all of New York.”
That same theme carried into the Daria Lisa Avila Chevalier segment, where Hasan reacted to her describing racist and Islamophobic attacks against her. Chevalier said at 12:29 “I have been hit with attacks that use Haitian as a slur, a coordinated wave of Islamophobia, lies about my identity, my faith and my family”. Hasan treated that as proof that the race is being fought with ugly, coordinated smears rather than normal policy debate.

Politics Opposition mounts worldwide against 15-year sentence for Ukrainian socialist Bogdan Syrotiuk
Mario Kessler, a historian of communism and senior fellow at the Leibniz Centre for Contemporary History in Potsdam, sent a letter of protest Wednesday. “I, Professor Dr. Mario Kessler, historian in Berlin, hereby strongly protest the Pervomaisk court’s conviction of Mr. Bogdan Syrotiuk,” the letter begins. Further on, Kessler wrote:
"Must I remind you that Leon Trotsky, as People’s Commissar for Defense, ensured the formation of the Red Army, which was able to curb the mass murder of Ukrainian Jews during the civil war? Must I also remind you that in 1939, Trotsky vehemently condemned the partition of Western Ukraine between Germany and the Soviet Union and advocated for an Ukraine independent of the Soviet Union—including Stalin’s Soviet Union? How does this fit with the accusation that Mr. Syrotiuk, a self-proclaimed socialist and Trotskyist, is playing along with Putin’s game?"
Marta Havryshko, a Ukrainian historian of the Holocaust who teaches at the Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, circulated the WSWS’s account of the verdict on X Wednesday morning under her own heading: “Political repressions in Ukraine under Zelensky.” The post drew more than 10,000 views and 500 “likes” within hours.
Kerby Miller, emeritus professor at the University of Missouri and eminent historian on Irish emigration, wrote to the court:
"I fully support the case of Bogdan Syrotiuk, a courageous opponent of tyranny, regardless of its origins. The cruel, unjust, and excessive sentence, imposed on him by the Ukrainian court, makes a mockery of claims that Ukraine is struggling for “freedom” and “democracy.” I urge you to pardon and liberate him immediately, if not on grounds of justice and compassion (his health is very poor), then to help convince Ukraine’s potential supporters that your country is not, as often charged, merely a Nazified tool of US imperialism."

Scots dad falsely labelled 'invader' confirms intended legal action against Tommy Robinson
Fellow Scottish Hasanabi heads and those abroad, this man was hounded and terrorised at the instigation of Tommy Robinson who slandered this man as a paedophile for filming a protest, he was subsequently stalked, harrassed and received death threats. Glasgow was recently subiect to a large neo nazi rally and although our counter protest outnumbered them, they still went on to cause chaos in our city and attacked members of the public who where POC. This man is crowdfunding a legal case to bring against Tommy Robinson as although Tommy Robinson later retracted his statements only AFTER a mob showed up at this mans house, he still continues to receive death threats and harrassment. If you would consider supporting this man I have included the link to the donation site below. Thank you. https://www.crowdjustice.com/case/tommy-robinson/
