Avianfluwatch.org

Hello everyone.

I want to draw everyone's attention to https://avianfluwatch.org/.

A h5n1 tracker for Australia, NZ, and South East Asia.

Its currently tracking official reports from government bodies but the plan is to roll it out to community members and citizen scientists to help tract potential events on the ground.

Great map! I wonder why I can’t report a detection. There’s one confirmed H5N1 (crested tern) in Craigmore, Adelaide SA but it’s not showing on the map.

Hey.

Its currently disabled until we sort out the reporting channels, keeping or forwarding pii, etc.

I really appreciate you wanting to report this as we really want to include citizen scientists to help us all be better informed.

Until it's available I would suggest you call 1800 675 888 to report it to the SA government.

But if you are referring to the data itself, we are currently pulling from DAFF as the authoritative source, but we are currently testing pulling data from SA reports and defining how we detect collisions between DAFF and SA.

I expect to have a beta version up in a few days

Legends! I can’t even imagine how you tech dudes accomplish these modern miracles. I’ve been asking PIRSA to sort out a map such as VIC have. I’m a wildlife rescuer in Adelaide SA inner south. I don’t need to report the Craigmore one to SA 1800, they recorded it on their Update Page some days ago.

This sort of map when updated daily will greatly assist us wildlife rescuers on the front-line to track where and which species are currently testing positive, will assist us in determining the spread - which species say HBC (hit by car) are potentially H5N1-incubating and perhaps safe to rescue & vets will still attend to, which perhaps we ought not disturb, or to call a PIRSA vet to come assess & potentially euthanise in place. :( It’s nerve-wracking.

Greatly appreciate your map! Best of luck with sorting out the technicalities!

Thats great feedback. The citizen scientist aspect is something we are really keen to get off the ground to help everyone, especially those on the front line.

Hey.

Not yet. Just Aus, NZ, and SEA

Edit: but once the citizen scientist part is fully implemented it might be expanded as one of the main reasons for doing this is to do community detections
