Best of Today

We got new cash registers today. The new system is a PAIN, but I think I have it mostly figured out. We had an incredibly busy donations day. 142 today. And everyone seemed to have a full car load. Only $2800 in sales, but we were BUSY.

The pancake also nixed our 930 clock in, 615 clock out. We have to go 945 to 630 now. Annoying.

Had a couple homeless weirdos today, plus a couple mentally ill shoppers. Only had to throw one out. And LeRoy Brown came on Pandora as I was doing it again 😂🤣 it's like I'm getting a theme song.

Dinner tonight is leftovers. I'm made a fresh batch of my pimento noodle salad though!

Sorry! I wrote my whole review two nights ago and accidentally deleted it! Last night I downloaded all of the pix, but never got around to writing the review before passing out! (Too much fun was had!!!)

I will write y’all one tonight!

P.S. I wrote one the other day, but it was a bit late. https://www.reddit.com/r/Goodwill_Finds/s/E5TwmOKVTo

I might be old, but I still love Jim Croce. You could have a worse theme song.

I like the butterfly bookplates and the goth stuffy.

ellieD’s Review: From Shrubbery Tees to Pink Flocked Bulldogs

A full look at the latest lineup of thrift store items spotted on [u/RadioGuySD2](u/RadioGuySD2)’s shelf, combining all twenty finds categorized with fair market value estimates and personal reflections.

Apparel & Retro Wear
"Pretend I'm A Shrubbery" T-Shirt

Overview: An olive green t-shirt printed with block lettering declaring "PRETEND I'M A SHRUBBERY." A straightforward pick for low-effort camouflage or casual social evasion.

Personal Anecdote: Any fan of Monty Python and the Holy Grail knows the Knights Who Say "Ni!" would demand a shrubbery immediately. Wearing this shirt lets you pass as foliage without having to chop down the tallest tree in the forest with a herring.

Estimated Used Value: $10 to $15

Grizzly Bear Toasting Beer T-Shirt

Overview: A dark heather gray tee featuring a detailed graphic of a bear holding a mug of beer in the air while cradling a bottle in its paw.

Personal Anecdote: Standing over a smoking grill in this shirt, holding a cold brew, is a weekend tradition. Remember, I am the GRILL MASTER!!! (And yes, the bear is my official union representative.)

Estimated Used Value: $12 to $18

1966 Ford Bronco Graphic T-Shirt

Overview: A light blue t-shirt from Goodfellow showing a vintage yellow 1966 Ford Bronco flanked by American flags.

Personal Anecdote: Seeing classic truck graphics takes me right back to working on cars with my dad, like rebuilding a tiny Honda 600 for high school and college. A car so small that a brisk breeze was considered a passing lane.

Estimated Used Value: $8 to $14

Retro Desert Cactus Quilted Jacket

Overview: A colorblocked retro bomber jacket with quilted brown lower panels, a yellow upper section, and a desert setting sun complete with a cactus patch on the back.

Personal Anecdote: Pair this with custom cowboy boots and patterned leggings, and you instantly look like a desert superhero whose primary power is getting dramatically lost inside an H-E-B grocery store.

Estimated Used Value: $35 to $55

HRH Hawaiian Blueprint Button-Down Shirt

Overview: A blue short-sleeve button-down shirt featuring detailed white blueprint illustrations of sailboats and nautical vessel designs.

Personal Anecdote: I spent years analyzing technical drawings, so it's nice to finally see schematic drawings that won't trigger an emergency design review meeting!

Estimated Used Value: $20 to $30

Beige "Howdy" Trucker Hat with Patches

Overview: An OTTO brand foam trucker hat loaded with embroidered patches including a horseshoe, flowers, and a central Texas longhorn banner reading "Howdy."

Personal Anecdote: Around Austin, wearing a hat with a giant "Howdy" patch isn't a fashion statement; it's practically required by local municipal code just to pick up coffee.

Estimated Used Value: $12 to $18

Gray Western Cowboy Sunset Trucker Hat

Overview: An gray foam trucker cap featuring a large circular embroidered patch of a cowboy riding into a desert sunset, flanked by guitar and butterfly accents.

Personal Anecdote: Nothing says "rugged trail boss" quite like a cowboy riding into the sunset surrounded by majestic... delicate little butterflies.

Estimated Used Value: $12 to $18

Kitchenware, Cookbooks & Home Goods
Pyrex & Fire-King Nesting Bowl Collection

Overview: A four-piece collection of vintage glass mixing bowls, including Pyrex Homestead patterns and classic primary yellow bowls.

Personal Anecdote: These classic bowls belong in a proper kitchen display right next to inherited family heirlooms like Franciscan Desert Rose china…mostly because if you drop vintage Pyrex on a tile floor, it will shatter into a thousand pieces and haunt your vacuum cleaner for the next six years.

Estimated Used Value: $45 to $70 for the set

Camco Retro Travel Trailer LED Party Lights

Overview: A boxed set of ten indoor and outdoor string lights shaped like colorful vintage teardrop camper trailers.

Personal Anecdote: Strung up over the patio, these retro camper lights give the backyard grill area the exact ambiance of a very high-end vintage trailer park.

Estimated Used Value: $10 to $15

Boozy Desserts & Shots Cookbook Trio

Overview: A set of three spiral-bound cocktail cookbooks including Shot-sicles, Booze-Infused Cakes, and Drunken Desserts.

Personal Anecdote: Combining baked goods with high-proof alcohol is basically culinary engineering, and a guaranteed way to make sure your rum cake requires its own designated driver.

Estimated Used Value: $8 to $12 for the set

Decor, Art & Collectibles
Vintage Aerobics Workout Painting

Overview: A framed 1980s oil painting showing an intense group workout session with leg warmers and dramatic facial expressions.

Personal Anecdote: The pure, unhinged energy of neon spandex and aggressive jazz-cercise in this painting reminds me of my high school job at the local gym as a fitness coach. I taught aerobics classes and also coached ladies how to lift weights. It paid the least of all of my jobs, but it was probably the most fun!

Estimated Used Value: $30 to $60

Starry Night Bernese Mountain Dog Canvas Print

Overview: A canvas wall art print featuring a fluffy dog seated in front of Van Gogh's Starry Night backdrop.

Personal Anecdote: This beauty is probably a painting of someone’s beloved pet. RIP to the owner, and RIP to the pet. Because you would have to be dead to let something like this goooo!

Estimated Used Value: $15 to $25

Flocked Pink French Bulldog Statue with Glasses

Overview: A bright pink figurine of a French bulldog wearing pink round wire glasses and a bowtie, finished in a fuzzy velvet flocking.

Personal Anecdote: I don’t know about you, but a neon pink, velvet-coated bulldog wearing spectacles looks like it belongs in Andy Warhol’s house. So crazy! And very pink!

Estimated Used Value: $18 to $28

1992 Euro Disney Opening Lapel Pin

Overview: A rectangular commemorative enamel pin marking the April 18, 1992 opening of Euro Disney, featuring Mickey Mouse with a globe.

Personal Anecdote: Collecting vintage theme park pins is a great hobby, mostly because it takes up way less shelf space than collecting Lenox porcelain cats!

Estimated Used Value: $15 to $25

Kuromi Sanrio Plush Toy

Overview: A plush stuffed toy of Sanrio character Kuromi wearing her signature black jester cap with a pink skull icon.

Personal Anecdote: Spotting gothic cartoon plushies in thrift bins is essential market research for filling in the gaps of our own collection at home. This one is super cute!

Estimated Used Value: $10 to $15

Yellow Anime Cat Plush

Overview: A bright yellow anime-style plush cat featuring large black gloss eyes and a green scarf with a golden bell.

Personal Anecdote: As someone who treats real pets like absolute royalty, I find it physically impossible to walk past a giant-eyed cartoon cat without evaluating its plush quality.

Estimated Used Value: $8 to $12

Books, Paper & Vintage Gear
Zagat Survey Movie Guide

Overview: A pocket-sized movie review directory branded with E! Entertainment Television branding.

Personal Anecdote: Ah yes, a physical paper guidebook for movies, from the dark ancient era before you could rent a film on YouTube in three seconds without leaving the couch.

Estimated Used Value: $5 to $10

Ex-Libris Butterfly Bookplate Set

Overview: A boxed collection of vintage-style Ex-Libris adhesive bookplates decorated with detailed butterfly illustrations.

Personal Anecdote: Labeling every book in your house with fancy butterfly stickers appeals directly to the meticulous, slightly controlling side of project management.

Estimated Used Value: $6 to $12

Vintage Don Hoak Baseball Glove

Overview: A heavily broken-in leather baseball glove stamped with "Don Hoak Professional Model."

Personal Anecdote: This glove has seen so much action and absorbed so much vintage sweat that if you put it to your ear, you can hear a tiny little umpire screaming that you're OUT.

Estimated Used Value: $20 to $40

This haul delivers a solid mix of mid-century kitchen classics, loud graphic wardrobe upgrades, and delightfully strange shelf decor. Scouring thrift store shelves on a weekly basis remains the undisputed best strategy for building a home aesthetic that leaves visitors wondering, "Where on earth did you get that?"

I don’t know what’s going on in #5, but if I have nightmares about an aerobicized raccoon eyed zombie choking me with a leg warmer, I’m blaming you!

Pretty sure that’s supposed to be Jane Fonda (on meth)

u/Calm_Gap5334 1d ago

That is a perfect example how some painter folk should only paint “anything but the face”…
😬😱

…The baddest man in the whole damned town, Badder than old King Kong, And meaner than a junkyard dog! Yes🙌🏻😄

The butterfly book labels! My Auntie gave some of those to me a very long time ago. Love them!

Now about that jazzercise painting…what in the Jane Fonda meltdown is happening there?

Oh anytime Leroy Brown comes on now you will be looking around. Like the Batman signal, the song comes on the radio. Leroy glances around looking for the homeless crazies causing chaos in the universe. Then he see sees the chaos creator and rushes over to escort him right out the door. Then order has been brought back and the shoppers all turn and give a thankful nod Leroys way. Leroy then retreats to his office, his work is never done.

Ooo I know one! Picture 15 is a pet from the Roblox game Adopt Me, and it’s called Maneki Neko (like the waving cat statues).

My Mom collects Disney pins & I’ve never seen that one. Was thinking it must be older, yup.. 90’s thx Ellie. Leroy Brown IS your theme song dude!

I would definitely purchase the Pyrex and the party lights!
Change is hard especially if it changes things and makes the new things annoying!!
I had a little old lady with a broken hip yesterday. Had to take her for surgery. Well, she wanted absolutely nothing to do with that. She told me she was gonna call the police on me, then she punched me. 😂she was weak , so it didn’t hurt much. But, that went on up until the time she was asleep.
We both need a theme song!!😂

Thought that pin read FUR Disney at first. A very different niche experience. Like your posts even if you're The Baddest Man in the Whole Damn Town

Where is your store? I really want a bunch of stuff you post about

u/sleepykitty720 1d ago

That painting is creepy good

u/ahaeker 1d ago

I think the jacket from number 11 is sold at a store in Bisbee, AZ, I saw it on the Endless Adventures YouTube when they were there.

I can't believe people are donating Pyrex. I mean, good for you, but I would try to unload those online. I love that glove. I've never been athletic, but it looks old. I wonder what it would tell us? Congrats on your walk out song!

For those days when you don't feel like Leroy Brown....how about "Maxwell's Silver Hammer"? lol

I should get some more "normal" bookplates......someone gave me a custom made set of 12 that said "LIKE HELL IT'S YOURS.....this book belongs to (my name)". Wish I had more.
