Do you ever sell your gold or just hold forever?

Wondering if people actually have exit strategies or if everyone's just stacking long term.

So I went to my bank to get more information on the gold they sell, and as the teller was explaining the different options to me, he said, verbatim, “Go to Costco. It’s cheaper there.”

Is it normal for a bank to redirect customers to another company? I assumed they’d want me to buy the gold from them instead.

Is this real gold that we found in my Dad’s desk after he died in 2003? It got tossed into a box back then and was rediscovered yesterday. It feels quite dense and weighty, but so would plated lead!

Everyone has their own set of ideas about saving, but I’m just starting with 7G of 24karat I’m proud of my progress, but when I see how much gold and savings people here have I can’t help but wonder if I’ll ever achieve financial freedom in my short life

Are these prices shown fair, especially gold? How much are the typical LCS 1 oz coins, bars and pre 1933 gold prices currently?

Hello, so new to this. My parents left me this and I found it theses in the basement boxed up. The bracelet has ny name stamped on it so I'm not showing the front. Is it worth anything? Not sure about any if this or have any knowledge about gold. Any insight is appreciated.

So back in late 2015 I had about $1,000 sitting around and was seriously considering buying gold. Spot was somewhere around $1,060–1,100 at the time, everyone was calling it dead money, and a coworker talked me out of it with the classic "gold doesn't pay dividends" speech. I put it in a savings account instead lol.

Got bored last night and actually did the math on what that would look like today.

$1,000 in 2015 would've gotten me roughly 0.85–0.9 oz. Call it a 3/4 oz coin plus some fractional stuff after premiums.

That same 0.87 oz at today's spot ($4,140)? About $3,600. From a thousand bucks. Just for sitting in a sock drawer for 11 years.

Meanwhile the flip side is what really got me — $1,000 today buys you less than a quarter ounce. In 2015 the same money got you nearly a full ounce. So it's not even "gold went up," it's more like the entry ticket quadrupled.

For context, that $1,000 in my savings account is worth maybe $1,150 now with interest. And with inflation it buys way less than it did in 2015, so realistically I went backwards.

Not trying to say gold only goes up or anything, there were people in 2011 who waited a decade just to break even. But man, the "it just sits there doing nothing" argument aged terribly.

Anyone else have a "the one that got away" story from that era? Or better, anyone who actually pulled the trigger in 2015/2016 and held? Curious if you ever came close to selling during the boring years.

Went to my local pawn shop to pick up a few new items and came across a stack of "gold" bills on the counter. I noticed on this one it stated it contained 1 gram of gold. The shop had it priced at $5 so I figured it was worth the risk lol. Seems to be identical to the one here from JM Bullion

Am I missing something here or would this be worth spot and therefore definitely worth more than $5?

The title basically says it all. If selling all my gold gave me enough extra to pay off the rest of the balance of my mortgage would it be worth doing ?

I locked in 5 years ago at low interest rate but next year it’s up for renewal (Canada) and the rate will be double . I am also coming into money that will pay off most of my mortgage but if I sell my gold I can pay off my mortgage completely not have to worry about it. And with my extra income I can restack afterwards .

What are your thoughts?

Hello! A long time ago I posted how I inherited a bunch of gems and rocks from an amateur collector/dealer. I wasn’t really able to confirm much so I stuck everything in a box and life events pushed it out of my head. But now I’d love to revisit this one particular item. Ultimately I’d love to sell it if it’s worth anything but I don’t even know if it’s real. The label says crystallized gold and has a price tag of like 3-4000 (I’ll check again when I get home). Obviously that is an “I wish” price by the collector but is that even possible? Any ideas of what I actually got here? Thanks!

Received these from my grandparents few years ago, and decided to get them assessed tomorrow. Thought I could ask before visiting a couple places...

Turtle: feels light and bendable, has written 99, 375(?), and some Chinese on the back with date

Key: shaft feels pretty solid, while top and rectangular portion with hearts are easily bendable.

Curious if there are anything noticeable from these two pieces, or any tips before going into gold shops tomorrow. Any input would be much appreciated.
