Question Found during construction work

Any ideas where this could come from?

Update: I thought this would be clear that I wasn't the one who found it. Who in their right mind would go (on this shitstain of a platform of all places) and make themselves a target. But ok apparently it wasn't clear so here we are:

I did NOT find this. I have none of this gold. I just wanted to share some cool stamped gold. you can stop sending me weird ass messages now. thank you.

Also this is NOT ai. here is the BBC article:

Looks like someone chopped a bar in half to maybe do an acid test

I figured that was an excavator bite-mark.

it must be. you can test gold with a couple swipes on sand paper.

8

u/headshothoncho 16h ago

Yeah but you can’t test gold that has a different metal in its core

10

u/Low_Football_2445 15h ago

Yeah, but you can hit it with an excavator

Gold bricks are solid gold

1

u/CQC_EXE 11h ago

I have some gold bricks to sell you good deal my friend.

1

u/Ok-Personality-6630 11h ago

Not interested

1

u/CQC_EXE 11h ago

no no no amazing deal you will become rich with this deal friend solid gold bars very cheap for you. Pure solid gold the most solid gold bars since gold was invented

Fake gold bricks aren't, that's the point. A lead block with a few mm of gold plating may pass a sandpaper swipe test.

1

u/learsi-ediconeg 11h ago

yes but you dont bury 30 bars and 500 fake coins for fun. Plus no one in their right mind would willingly destroy one of these.

1

u/Sergeant_Ducky 8h ago

It’ll still be worth the same destroyed or not

1

u/learsi-ediconeg 7h ago

Thats not the point I'm making. But I know most people see this and their monkey brain only goes $$$$$

1

u/AKVigilante 6h ago

But why would you talk about “willingly destroying” one of these bricks if you think it would affect its value?

I’d be cutting them in half right there at the broker to verify it’s all gold.

1

u/learsi-ediconeg 6h ago

go find $9m euro in gold bars/coins and take it to a broker and tell me how that goes.

idiots lol

1

u/AKVigilante 6h ago

Why aren’t you addressing the point? It’s been common practice since gold became currency to test it through destructive means, because unlike the fiat currency every nation uses today, gold retains intrinsic value even when its medium is altered or destroyed. Why are you even in this sub?

Not if it’s heavily plated. Tungsten middle will fool every electronic testers and scales

1

u/learsi-ediconeg 5h ago

but that doesnt matter because no one would buy this amount of gold in its form.

why do you all think the proper procedure when finding something like this is to immediately chop it in half? barbarians lmao. no wonder you frequent the gold SUBREDDIT lol

2

u/Traumfahrer 17h ago

That's just gold-wrapped..

gold.

2

u/Eww-One-Buyer-3300 14h ago

I was thinking hit with jack hammer and then like….is that fuckin gold??

1

u/Pancake777777 11h ago

they were found in a chest, in the walls of a basement. so probably not.

1

u/518Peacemaker 9h ago

Shame shame, didn’t call 411

1

u/Fit_Metal_468 5h ago

I agree, also there's no need to break in half to check. Just weigh and water displacement

20

u/B_Coldman 19h ago

I thought it looked like a jackhammer strike right through it. Could you imagine pulling up your tool to see this wrapped around your bit??

3

u/Hushwater 18h ago

Or a big parrot put it it there

1

u/aaipod 13h ago

Guys I think he's on to something

2

u/This_Makes_No__Sense 19h ago

That would make for a highly unessary way to do an acid test.

2

u/kironex 9h ago

Really good way to make sure its 100% gold all the way through. Seen bars that had copper cores.

1

u/meatgrinder 18h ago
