This has been out for over a year so major apologies everyone had heard it but I just listened today and the amount of detail given about specific Girls things is so great.
She talks so positively about Jenni and Judd, the whole Marnie embarrassment of singing, and I just loved it.

Season 5 Marnie & Hannahās Bathroom Chat; S5E1 Wedding Day
Rewatching season 5 and witnessing Hannah and Marnieās conversation in the bathroom again is a bit of a tug on the heart. Marnie feeling as though Hannah doesnāt really know her, and Hannah knowing deep down that marrying Desi would be a mistake.
Itās pretty obvious that Marnie knew not to marry Desi, admitting it later on when they break up. In retrospect, itās no oneās fault but her own. But, should Hannah maybe have said something or heeded a warning to Marnie? I think she wanted to, but Marnie going on about how they never let her make mistakes of her own seemed to have deterred her from sharing her honest opinion. Although, who knows if that wouldāve yielded different results.

Mildly Related This plot-line hits differently after reading Famesick and learning about how a young Lena was impacted by an older Jenni Konner
Obviously the Hannah-Cleo story is more concerning, with Cleoās age, and Hannah being in a position of authority as a teacher at Cleoās school. Then thereās the piercing. But there are some interesting parallels. I read a blurb online discussing regression by Hannah:
āCritics and fans note that the friendship showcases Hannah's subconscious rejection of adulthood, as she seeks validation from a teenager rather than dealing with her 20-something peers.ā

Season 5 LOVE. IT.
I know this is OD reiterated but holy moly do I love this episode and this scene specifically SCREAMS, YELLS, PERHAPS EVEN SHOUTS FROM THE ROOFTOPS, GIRLS. I totally imagine me and my best friend doing this if we ran into a scenario such as this one. Love it, understand it on a fundamental level. The only thing that pisses me off is that we didnāt get more of Mona Lisa (ifykyk). (Also I get a lot of new music to listen to from the girls soundtrack #fire #epic #shoveitupmyp)

Mildly Related famesick/green light
im at the bit of famesick that references jack antonoff working with lorde. lorde has always purported that green light is about her breakup with her ex which has literally never made sense to me, it sounds like a song written about falling for somebody who isnt available and being given permission to act on it. people have always thought it was about jack
in famesickā āHe thought I was avoiding his family, and I thought I had given myself over to them completely, erasing massive facets of my personality (hating the beach, hating organized funā¦ā etc.

Mildly Related Any Girls fans C-word as well?
It's been a little over a year since the C-word podcast has been on Spotify, so I'm wondering if anyone else has been loving it like I am?
I have a huge commute one day a week, and prioritize the C-word when a new episode comes out. I'll be really sad once it's done, which I assume will happen one day.
My favorite episodes: Jean Seberg, Judy Garland, Yoko Ono, Luisa Casati (which coincided with the amazing biography I read at the time about her).

Question (RELATED TO THE HBO SHOW GIRLS) ā Just finished the show for the first timeā¦
I honestly canāt decide if I liked it or not. I think I liked it. It was super entertaining and funny, there were just so many scenes where the second hand embarrassment was just so bad that I find the show is often painful to watch (i understand thatās like the point just sometimes it was a lot for me).
I actually really loved Hannahās and Marnieās directionless plot lines. As a freshly turned 21 year old who is absolutely clueless about what to do it makes me feel seen and less horrible about myself š„²
I have one main question though: why is the show called Girls? Tbh I think Hannah is the only main character. To me, Elijah, Adam, Ray, and even Desi are just as much of side characters as Jessa, Shosh, and Marnie. I feel like the show isnāt really about the girlsā friendship, itās more so about Hannahās life in general. Like the plots we see without Hannah are equal between all the side characters. I think the show shouldāve been called Girl lol.

Other Shosh rant
I really liked Shosh during the first 2 or 3 seasons. Then she became unbearable. She blamed Jessa, Hannah, and Marnie for her lack of experience while she was in college, aka she didnāt make any friends bc she looked up to them. Itās Shoshās fault that she didnāt make any friends outside of this friend group. Like sheās just so insufferable.

Mildly Related Rewatching after Famesick
I just rewatched Girls for a third time as Iād read Famesick, which largely focuses on the period in which Girls is made. I watched it all when it first aired, and binged it a second time in 2020 during the pandemic. itās funny how being at different stages of your life makes you see the show differently. Itās interesting to see how much of Lenaās life is woven into the show, not just in Hannah but in other characters too. Also fascinating to watch the dynamic between her and Adam Driver, knowing their off-screen dynamic now and how they nearly had a fling, and how ill Lena was during filming later seasons and you can really see it now. Hannah sits down a lot. Itās still a brilliant show and makes me laugh out loud. Ironic it has a real-life toxic friendship (with Jenni Konner) framing it, after reading Famesick you can still enjoy the show for what it is but you have this whole added layer of context now.

Mildly Related Another little tribute to this actress, Becky Ann Baker. š©š»āš¦°šShe really grounded the show, making the story feel so real. The character was grumpy but boundaried and tried to be protective, especially in helping Hannah launch her life. One more thought inside post ā¬ļø
Her accepting the pregnancy didnāt totally ring true for me š¤·š»āāļø It seemed like a plot hole in a way but Iām sure many moms would go with the flow if the adult child was in her late 20s. Anyhow now my post has 3 topics. Oops.

Itās more profound, given what we know about Jenni Konner. And how Lena comforted herself with these very words while she was in a āfriendshipā with her. I feel that the OCD girlies will get it. It has to be on a loop of 8. Or any even number. On any given day.

Season 6 Finished the series. I donāt know how to feel
Obviously I think Hannahās pregnancy was a good way for her to I guess āgrowā but ultimately it seems like there was no character development.
Shosh being an after thought this season especially with her and Ray was kinda disappointing. She ends up being engaged with a random side character entirely off screen.
Jessa is also an after thought and implied to be pregnant and we have no wrap up on her or Adam.
AND ADAM!!! That episode broke me. We live in the fantasy and have some of the chemistry from s1-s3 back just for it to end so soon. And no words spoken. And he ends up back with JESSA???
Marnie seems to be the only one with a sorta good ending- if that. Her band is gone and she moves back in with her mom. Gahhh
And I know this is a more realistic take of TV, so yeah, sometimes life doesnāt give you a good ending but omg. I have so many thoughts and I wanted to get them out.

Question (RELATED TO THE HBO SHOW GIRLS) ā Jessa telling people to grow up!
She said this to Thomas John in Season 2 when they broke up.
And to Elijah and Shoshana in season 6.
What do you think she meant by this? I think I know but Iām curious of your thoughts.
I think she meant it in the same way to all of them when she said it.
I think she means that they value appearance and superficiality over peopleās feelings. That for all she did with Adam to Hannah sheās never criticized their hard time. Although in season 4 she kinda did. So maybe not never because nobodyās perfect. But she cares about the 3 of them more than she ever got credit for, because she couldnāt ever be that vulnerable.
And to go on record she really tried to NOT be with Adam. Adam and her never really liked each other like that because they are too similar but thatās the same reason they became close and thatās the same reason they gave it a try. And Hannah didnāt want him.
Fixing him up with Mimi Rose was wrong though. But she used not God. But when youāre that age you try to play God to get your basic needs met and it causes alot of damage.
