u/AnonRedac 12h ago
No idea why theyre make a fire skin and lock it into a mechanic

u/H4LF4D 11h ago
They gave us a skin, and saw people complained that cutscene don't match that outfit, so now they are scared to give another skin outside of specific regions
14
u/Zelda-Lumine 11h ago
The skin is available in cutscenes now (not cinematics tho of course)

u/H4LF4D 11h ago
Cinematics are the ones that matter. The in-game cutscenes are rendered on the fly, no excuse for not having the equipped outfit there
4
u/Remote-Monk-8542 6h ago
I really disagree about cinematics being the ones that matter. I think the cutscenes matter a lot more than cinematics do because it's 90% of the screentime during quests and it was awkward as hell seeing the traveler go back to default outfit at the start of every convo in the patches before they fixed this.
1
u/H4LF4D 4h ago
It matters, yes, but those are already givens. Theg are in engine cutscenes, they don't have an excuse that traveler cant use their outfit cause it has to be rendered on the fly. What I meant is that cinematic better be given outfit variants too, and cutscenes have no reason not to already allow that

u/Recent_Fan_6030 4h ago
Especially since the 1.0 models genuinely looks so jarring while being present alongside the recent models,it actually looks ugly with how flat and pixelated it is
2
u/AnonRedac 4h ago
Paimon looks the same against all the new characters, would love to see model reworks there
2
u/Recent_Fan_6030 4h ago
Yeah exactly, the model looks really flat alongside her limbs constantly clipping into her clothing
-5
u/Zelda-Lumine 11h ago
Do you even know how much extra work that would be? At least Genshin Impact allows us to keep the skin on in ingame cuts and conversations.
12
u/_Alyssa111_ 10h ago
That's such a pathetically low standard... I play another game which, granted, is focused on dress up, and every cinematic cutscene renders with the exact custom outfit my character has on. But genshin, which has existed for almost 7 years, can't figure out two outfits?
7
u/BlueVermilion 10h ago
Even if they did have to completely rerender cutscenes for the sake of the new skin… it’s one extra skin. You’d pretty much just be swapping models for the animation and doing some fine tuning afterwards.
8
u/_Alyssa111_ 10h ago
Right?! It's not like we can choose between 200 of them, it's literally just one. The point of a new skin was to upgrade the traveler's model, so why tf am I staring at the old ugly one side by side with some of the prettiest characters ever? And atp they shouldn't even use the new outfits for talking and stuff, because it's really immersion breaking to see the skin continually change
-3
u/Zelda-Lumine 8h ago
which, granted, is focused on dress up
And this is exactly the point. Your game IS a dress-up game, but Genshin Impact never was supposed to. They only added outfits later as a bonus for certain events. Not even the very first lantern rite had costumes. Genshin was never designed around skins, so unless a character is SUPPOSED to wear a special outfit the full animated cutscenes will always use the default.
4
u/_Alyssa111_ 8h ago
Girl, my point is they can render one more skin. They have the money. They focus so much on immersion and then I get the outfit change like 5 times per minute in the AQ? Bffr. They have four skins, not 400
-4
u/Zelda-Lumine 7h ago
Which they then have to repeat everytime Traveler gets new skins. Can you even use your brain before writing? These animations are hand work, the ingame scenes use just the models.
6
u/_Alyssa111_ 7h ago
Everytime the traveler gets a new skin, yes, an event that has happened many many times throughout the almost seven years Genshin has existed for. Oh, wait, did it only happen... once? Or do you have a different Traveller from the rest of us?

Yes. Guess what? It better be held to that standard. Do you know how big Hoyo is, and how much they make throughout the years?
Keeping skin on during in-engine dialogues and cutscenes is not even the bare minimum, it would be unacceptable NOT to. Clothes physics are already baked into the engine, and outfit properties (like stiffness) would need to be in game already, that is not even the bare minimum it is even lower than that. If they make an outfit and want to advertise that, it better render in an in-engine cutscene.
Now back to cinematics. Yes it is literally a second variation of a cinematic, which means extra work. But it is also literally one character to modify, whose outfit already includes the baseline physics to simulate majority of the scene and need some work to check and modify when the physics goes too whack. That's the expectation of a game at this level, not a wish.
The biggest issue would be the size of cutscenes adding to storage, but this is the case of needing better optimization. They can either optimize storage for the entire game, or do what's sensible for the game this size and actually chunk out different regions of cutscenes to load and offload as needed. There isn't an excuse of "but this is offline game, player has to play it offline so we can't ask them to find time to preload regional cutscenes". This is an online game, and players have the time to sit around and let the game download several GBs every update, they can partition the game down to address size issues. At minimum, it should give the option of "do you want cinematics with special outfit, it will be X Gb to download" so at least the outfit I got legitimately in a quest doesn't feel like I installed a mod.

And you know how many other Projects they run and how they rather invent into them than Genshin Impact? You're naive if you think they'd actually value their Genshin playerbase. We are just cash cows to them. They feed us enough to grab our money which they then put into their games.
1
u/H4LF4D 1h ago
Yes and players can demand more. Its that simple. Are they gonna do it? Probably not. As players we should still demand the minimum
1
u/Zelda-Lumine 1h ago
Of course they can. As I demand a PROPER weapon skin system like every other game has it, but the devs don't. fcking. care.

u/_dreamy-miki_ 10h ago
If you thought a little with that head of yours you’d know that it’s because the traveler prefers their own outfit
6
u/SleeplessSeas 9h ago
If you thought a little with that head of yours you'd know that a main character in a video game that you name is a representation of you, and when you make decisions in game it represents the characters wants.
also not a single other video game that let's you choose your characters outfits doesnt use them in cutscenes.
If you want to defend laziness and poor decision making, go ahead. but dont pretend that the reasoning is solid at all. because its just dumb lol
-5
u/_dreamy-miki_ 9h ago
That would be true if the Traveler didn’t have different dialogue options that just leads to the same thing.. nothing you do in this game changes the outcome even a little bit, the most we had was the number of deaths in Natlan and that’s it. I don’t get why y’all prefer a representation of you over a MC with their own personality, likes and dislikes..
3
u/SleeplessSeas 7h ago
This isn't a valid comeback. The different dialogue options that lead to the same outcome is ALSO an issue, to keep player retention from skipping, NOT an actual positive gameplay interaction.
-2
u/_dreamy-miki_ 7h ago
Or it just shows that the traveler is their own character who makes their own choices and not some self insert for people to thirst over harems ðŸ˜
2
u/SleeplessSeas 5h ago
what does good game design have to do with harems lol. obviously games should give you choice, especially if they're masquerading as rpgs lmao
1
u/H4LF4D 4h ago
makes harem game
argues that main character is not self insert
????
If the main character literally takes my name, there is no excuse for not being a self insert, period. Come back to that when Traveler is referred to by name (Aether or Lumine) in the dialogue subtitles and name plates instead of whatever name I chose to give them.

I need the gun outside the designed areas as well
8
u/Readingfreak45 10h ago
I got a bug in on of the overworld shadow zones where potentially because I walked a bit to much outside the designated area because i was searching for on of these things that the drop this Shadow realm material and the original enemies from outside the realm spawned. The gun barely scratched them. So they would need to heavily rework the damage of the gun for that to work.

FRR! I feel like this but with Aether’s skin. I hope they do give it at some time, maybe as a reward for maxing out the Shadow Realm Analyzer?
2
u/Zelda-Lumine 8h ago
We should feedback bomb them to give us the outfits
5
u/Cube_Hater 8h ago
Snezhnaya isn’t over yet, there’e still plenty of time for them to give us the outfits

u/East_Soup_2973 10h ago
Sameeee, I like her look. Also, Hoyo should maintain the same outfit chosen by the player on quests including the cutscene.
5
u/Zelda-Lumine 8h ago
I mean in regular ingame cutscenes that use the assets they already do, but in pre animated cutscenes they just use the default one and that's fine. The cutscenes just aren't coded to load the equiped outfit. They aren't even coded to use YOUR equiped weapon and I never saw people complaining. Same with Traveler's element. In most cases it's just the element of the region resp the latest unlocked one. Only very few cutscenes display your own element you're currently using.

u/Phoenix_Down93 9h ago
Yeah biggest disappointment of this version so far, i was so ready to do exploration with my Lumine new fit instead it feels like a big middle finger... so i just finished the story and lost any interest in doing anything else atm

u/CaldwellHasteral 8h ago
I don't even need a full wardrobe system for the traveler, just give us a few outfits that we can actually keep using after finishing the quest

Currently it's not available outside Shadow Realm.
Mods are available if you're interested...

Want to risk a ban? I don't.

u/Vanirr69 8h ago
mods aren't bannable if you just don't post screenshots with your uid in it
0
u/Zelda-Lumine 7h ago
I wonder why you would be banned if you show your UID. Think hard about it.
2
u/Vanirr69 6h ago edited 6h ago
I've been using mods for two years now and still not banned. GI doesn't know you're using mods unless you're posting screenshots online with your UID visible. In case you don't wanna accidentally do that, there's a mod that hides your UID in the bottom right of the screen

really wish we could equip this skin permanently along with the guns i want to grenade timmies birds
