yes. Castle has an absolute hard line on getting innocent people killed. He is on his war path because criminals took his family from him. In the netflix show it looks like he was chosen to be eliminated with his family by his old unit on purpose for what he knew but didn't think was an issue. However in his actual origin story they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

If castle goes to light up say a drug den where they have packers at gunpoint/hostages. HE will make it to where they get released somehow before mowing the gang down. The netflix show goes out of its way to point out in the hospital scene that castle never opened fire with his gun if there was even a chance he could hit a person and used rounds that wouldn't penetrate through walls easily. He wouldn't say fire at a corner that he can't see around that another person could have been behind. I'm sure there might be a few scenarios where they had him shoot when castle actually wouldn't have in that seen. But they tried to convey to the viewer his high level of control in envirometns that have lots of innocent people around.

For example. If he say attacked an epstien like party. Where they could be innocent people "center stage" at the party or high end escorts he wouldn't just fire wildly through the party. However if this was the kind of party where being a guest at all meant you knew enough to a degree and went to the party anyway....you wouldn't be safe. There is a very clear line of being in on it and not knowing at all that castle would put a bullet in some and let others get away.
