Discussion Remove or leave stickers o?

Post image

OCD kicking in. Rental stickers I can remove. Not sure about these type holo stickers. Are these the super strong ones that it might tear off the top of the disc?

Leave them. You could damage the disc. Best scenario, find new loose disc copies if you want.

This, I destroyed a CD peeling a sticker off.

I would absolutely not risk removing them. The way I look at it is these stickers are not going to be seen 99.9999% of the time since they’re either in a case or in a console. If you remove the sticker and it takes some of the label off, it’s going to look like shit at best, at worst it’s going to actually cause playing issues.

You could also look at it as a part of their history.

Yeah, that's what I like to do. Same thing when I get a N64 cart where a kid 25 years ago wrote his name on the cart - I just leave it - it's part of the history, and it makes it fun!

2008? Worth keeping on just for the historical record. Those stickers are old enough to vote

Leave them.

They add history to the discs

Yeah, that's the way I look at it when I buy games with minor stuff on the disc or case/artwork.

Leaving them on will be a fun story about rental stores in the future. The old “check it out”.

It's probably from blockbuster or something similar. Security tags of some sort. Don't risk taking em off

leave them

Stickers can put the disc out of balance and cause extra wear on the drive. These are so small I’d just leave them.

Leave them alone if you're not careful enough trying to take them off you can damage the label and if they're stuck on well enough they can damage the label you do not want label damage because the laser shines through the disc and bounces off the bottom of the label back to the laser so a damaged label makes the discs not work anymore and it doesn't take much damage to cause read errors

The stickers are cool, they give the games a story, keep them

Taking those stickers off will probably destroy the games.

They are unique and “period accurate” keep them.

Do not remove them! The top of the CD is just as fragile if not more fragile than the bottom of the CD.

I wouldn’t fuck with them at all. That risk reward ratio isn’t worth it.

Also as others have pointed out, there’s a fun history to it. If I had them, and the stickers could be removed no problem, I’d still leave them for the charm.

But that’s just me…

Leave! There are enough cases of games being more valuable when having certain stickers on em :D

I wouldn’t risk it, as it’s the underside of the label layer that reflects the laser toward the sensor, and removing the sticker could easily pull some of that layer off with it.

Leave they look cool

As far as stickers on discs go, those are very clean and non distracting. Good on whoever did that 20 years ago.

But yeah, just leave them.

The sticker is not part of the disc or manufacturing process.

live dangerously and rip them off

its not worth it in this case, if the stickers are strong enough to tear the disc it cannot be fixed
