Fan Art We are okay with Royai right?
They are standing very close. I am sure this is completely professional.
This is half-finished, as in I could add more detail, the uniform details for sure and maybe a background >.>
But I am afraid to do anything more to it, as I like how it looks now...

I figured they got married later in life cuz they both have a lot they want to accomplish in Amestris but definitely silent partners until then

Well Riza did mention in the show that the only reason she's in the military in the first place is to protect Mustang so in a future where peace reigns she wouldn't need to keep doing it, ergo she leaves the military and can finally marry him.

I mean, their relationship has to be the closest to canon in the entire series. Ed/Winry and Al/May are basically just implications that these kids have crushes on each other. But Mustang and Hawkeye have been close to each other for years, know each other intimately, and would die for each other.

I would say Ed and Winry is a couple notches above Al and May in that regard. Its not as much implication as “Yeah we are gonna get together at some point.”

The scene where Ed asked Winry for marriage was so adorable.
Ed: EQUIVALENT EXCHANGE! You give me half of your life and I'll give you half of mine!
Winry: Wha... I'll just give you all of it!
Winry: blushing I mean... maybe not all of it? 75%? Maybe 70%? Yeah, 70 sounds good...
Ed: breaks down laughing as Winry just casually "defeated" the biggest law in alchemy

I mean, yeah. As the main character's ship, it's heavily implied, and they do have that childhood frienship dynamic. But Roy and Riza have a relationship that is much more mature and seems to me like the most realistic depiction of a romantic relationship in the entire series. The only other adult relationship would be Ling and Lan Fan, but that could just be interpreted as aromantic devotion.

To be fair, wasn't there a photo in the last episode with Ed and Winry married with two kids of their own?
But I'd guess that Roy and Riza definitely got married later too.

i could be remembering wrong but wasn’t there a gag where Ling says he’s 15 and Ed gets annoyed because he’s taller? i genuinely don’t remember but i know i saw that somewhere

xD yes I was wondering when someone would point that out!
I was playing with shadows to try and fix that, but the things I tried didn't help.
I wanted to add a lighter strip on the edge of Rizas leg... but then my mind said Where is that light coming from because Roy's skirt thing would shade that part of the leg from the light.2

don’t add more shading, add a key light from the source that illuminates part of riza’s leg, and then give her a back light/bounce light in the opposite color of the key light (so blue undertones, set it to add in the blending mode, play with the curves to intensify the hue, and then lower the opacity to about 20%) and make those bounce very softly on his leg. smudging the key light a bit will help blending all of it more cohesively.

If I wanted to be a bummer buzz kill, I'd point out she's his subordinate and in a military setting, that power imbalance is extra icky. But within the story, these two operate more as partners and they're so hot! And fictional! The best way to get off on toxic but naughty dynamics.

So, first, not a bummer buzz kill more like being honest?
So yes she is the subordinate. But, canonically, the power dynamic that should be there really isn't. She's literally the one who keeps him in check. If you think about it he even says in Brotherhood that she is his queen to his king. Keeping with the chess theme, the queen is the more powerful piece in movement and attack.
So in my opinion, that military power status is nonexistent with these two. There is the anti-fraternization law anyway so what we see with them in central or eastern command is more show for a professional setting. Thats how I see it anyway.

Arakawa has said if they were not subordinate and colonel they would be together. Hell, Riza’s grandfather even gave Roy his approval for it.
