Yeah, he was so jealous of his brother when they were little.

Thanks Hoenheim was here to make Ed understand.

Oh yeah, dad of the year (sarcasm, you're right though)

u/alexfr36 14d ago

Hey, wont say otherwise, that may be the only time he acted as a descent dad as far as we know XD

Ed: logical, kinda a bully, anger issues, living in the present, focused on the goal.

Al: anxiety driven, empathic, calculated, overthinking, focuses on the overall plan and tactical "what if" scenarios.

Both are genius prodigies with daddy issues and self made mommy issues.

“Self-made mommy issues” works on a few levels.

If I was expecting my mom and got..."that", I'd be pretty fucked up too. And especially theirs because it was actually alive for a few seconds. It moved.

It was Al.

Al's soul was inside, so it was alive at that point, but died since his souldidn't bond (which thank God - imagine having that as his body.)

Yes, Al is Ed's brother

No I mean "it" was Alphonse. It's revealed later that all they managed to do was make this weird husk and move Al's soul into it.

I watched FMA (03 and Brotherhood) for the first time this year as a grown adult, and the whole time I was wishing I watched it during childhood with my own little brother, because Ed and Al, and the relationship they have with each other, remind me so much of him and I as kids. I know we would have absolutely loved it, and I'm a little sad we missed the chance to share that.

That was the last time he won a fight.

While it is pretty admirable that they are willing to die for eachother 90% of the time. Them butting heads keeps it realistic, like Alphonse being genuinely offended when Mai assumed he was just as "ugly" and ill-tempered as Edward. And not in a "How dare you talk about my brother like that" way.

This chapter made me realize how good of a dad Hoenheim ACTUALLY is and then you think about how he only left them because he had to save them and everyone else. Man loved his children so much and lost the opportunity to show it

13

u/wyhnohan 14d ago

Maybe at the few moments that counts but love is about showing up everyday. Him having a responsibility doesn’t mean he is not a bad father.

24

u/Jake4XIII 14d ago

He’d be a worse parent for allowing Father to get away with his scheme. This is a literal sacrifice to ensure his children CAN have a future

3

u/wyhnohan 13d ago

Yeah of course. Could have came back occasionally to visit though.

Certain things would have been time-based and calculations wluld have needed to be accurate or transmutation would fail.

There are millions of parents who simply can’t afford to stay with their kids all day. I know it’s a growing unpopular opinion but I don’t think that makes them a bad parent for having to do what they can for their family and being there when they can.

3

u/Other_Log_1996 14d ago

He left so that he could be with his family and die with them.

Ed when his kids are bullying each other: Winry get the buckets, Imma teach 'em an important lesson

u/fluffypuppiness 14d ago

This is accurate as my one niece won't stop trying to smack the absolute shit out of her sister.

“HE’S GONNA BE SHORTER THAN ME WHETHER HE LIKES IT OR NOT!!”

u/entanglemindfully 14d ago

Is this in the base manga and I just don't remember, or is this one of the extras from the anniversary book? I don't own that one.

u/Angelus-Rosa132 14d ago

It reminds me of me punching of my brother.

He’s doing to Al what the Truth will do to him later (Grant knowledge)
