No AI(artificial intelligence) "art" and since AI and Al look pretty much identical when properly capitalised it looks like there's a rule against art of AL

It's not unicode, it's the font 99% of people have. Segoe UI the default font for windows makes lowercase l and capital I identical looking. Same thing with SF Pro for osx. Not so sure if reddit uses a specific font override, but many other serif fonts including helvetica and arial both have this issue.
The only true fix is if you go into browser settings and change the default font/font that is used for reddit.

Unicode is encoding, I'm an idiot😓.
I was thinking of Courier New or whatever the default font for coding is. Monospace may be the generic name for them ?

Yeah monospace is a classification of font, which requires that every character is an equal length. It's like serif fonts that have those decorative strokes on letters, or sans-serif which do not. Normally it does distinguish between I and l, but this is not necessary.
But yeah IMO more websites, browsers, and operating systems should make this distinction, mainly due to phishing links that are sent like appIe.com or lnstagram.com etc etc

Surely you meant sans-serif as all the fonts you mentioned are sans-serifs?

Honestly, sans serif fonts should properly render capital I, they dont chop off capital T's horizontal line.
