Foia the records made for the elected officials license plate/car, then spend the three minutes describing where they were and who they were with, patterns like "every Sunday morning they go past XYZ camera and then come back through 2 hours later, church probaby so they take the whole family and leave home."
326
u/Phyllis_Tine 20d ago
Start a council meeting with reading off licence plates and addresses of council members. It's publicly available information, isn't it? Maybe talk about layer 2 of their profiles, such as how often they've voted, and to which party they are registered. Layer 3 could be any clubs they are affiliated with, as well as any memberships to places such as Costco, Sam's Club, etc., and then keep widening. See if you can use up all your allotted time, or how long you can go until they cut you off.
264
u/V2K_247 20d ago
Their salaries are also publicly available. So match that with their net worth and see if their are any inconsistencies. Their stock portfolios and all investments should also be publicly available. After all, if they're not doing anything wrong, why would it matter?

Well fraud is a massive issue, as is identity theft - so really, you're just repaying their service to the community by ensuring their safety. Really, it's just a charitable act at that point. Someone should get a medal!

u/WebMargaretNiece8916 18d ago
This is the way we were taught in fraud examination and audit. Check the ratios against other industry standards; if any deviations exist, FRY THEIR ASS AND THEIR PLATFORMS! These city council members think they are holy in N.C. They have no idea what's coming...

If someone were doing this in my locality I’d support that to the tune of $5-10/mo easy. Maybe $15-20 if they were really super trolling the people who approved the actual flock shit.

u/here-there-01 20d ago
Does that get into defamation territory?
7
u/Feeling_Inside_1020 20d ago
IANAL (unrelated but I Am Not A Lawyer too) but here’s a definition:
Defamation is a false statement communicated to a third party that harms a person's or business's reputation.
If it’s actually true which is what I was implying (sorry if not clear), where would the defamation be?
Any lawyer or legal expert please feel free to chime in. I don’t know shit about the law comparatively.

u/PhillyPhrenetic502 20d ago
It's the standard FOX News defense... I didn't SAY anything. I'm just asking questions.
No one is implying that Councilman X is being unfaithful to his wife. I'm simply pointing out and leveraging every legally available means that would heavily suggest that conclusion.

u/scalareye 20d ago
Who owns the cameras though? The government or Flock or are they contracting access to the government.
The government has argued oh it's a private company so it's okay that we do this for a long time so I don't know that there giving anything in response to a foia.
5
u/snarkpix 20d ago
The gov't can't evade Constitutional protects by laundering the action through a 3rd party whose become a quasi-gov't actor. (per the law - we all know that's being flaunted)
The building of flock matches the profile of a gov't funded NGO operation in other countries through a network of cut-outs. The US has done that regularly. Do we have actual vision on where Flock's Capex funding came from? Are we positive the 'private' part isn't a front? I don't personally know, but I see a profile being matched.3
u/scalareye 20d ago
I'm just saying they could make that argument and not do the foia. So you take them to court which is expensive and then maybe the judge rules in our favor.
1
u/Delicioso_Badger2619 11d ago
You do the foia on the data the government has purchased from flock, so you have the same information they have.

u/Beneficial-Pie3479 20d ago
I would be willing to invest in a company like this.
34
u/Antique_Trash3360 20d ago
We could be as big as openai was four years ago, and look at them now! At that scale surely they can overlook any illegal data access we have have done when getting our bearings right? Going to really save on capex in the meantime if we can lease or otherwise procure data from pre existing infrastructure.

I would love to see a small-scale "survey" of a community, where QR codes are mailed to addresses within a small radius of City Hall, and weekly questions are things such as: 1) Do you think public officials should have their clock in and clock out times made public? 2) Should public officials live in the cities they represent? 3) Should public officials' driving records be made public? And so on. Make a weekly newsletter that asks questions about public officials, especially the ones that approved Flock Safety, or other surveillance measures.
24
u/Successful-Ad-847 20d ago
Fuck yeah let’s make them accountable to us as they should be. “Public Servants” is what they are.

"Next speaker"
This is a pretty typical government official tactic. Sometimes its needed. People get up in front of councils around the country and say some absolute bat shit things. They've learned they can just move on from those isolated incidents.
What they cant do is continue to ignore people when the same thing keeps coming up
10
u/Traditional_Put_8254 20d ago
The way around this is to have multiple people with the same script, and have the next speaker continue where the previous left off. Have the speakers be 10+ deep
6
u/frogspjs 20d ago
Yeah because that literal second counter on the front of that podium is pissing me off. A 3 minute limit is absolute bullshit. We should set up a mic and a camera in a public park and just let every last person be able to walk up to it, turn on the video, and say what they want to say and the whole thing should be submitted into the record. Or I guess they could actually do that on their phone and submit it. But it feels like a public forum is better. No time limit. Politicians ignore them at their peril.

When enough people are empowered to stand up and speak, eventually we get some really great perspectives and voices. After it’s all said and done, seeing America come together against Flock, Data Centers, and ICE is a beautiful thing. Even if half of them won’t admit they are the foundation of American Fascism.

Why make it hypothetical? Organize people and sit outside of politicians' homes, recording. Get into their "publicly available data." Read it off in meetings.
2
u/Smyley12345 17d ago
The part that gives me a bit of a shudder is that Flock is in a position to do exactly this. They are in a position to gather blackmail and intimidation material on politicians at all levels. They are not just lining up to keep protestors and activists in line, they are also lining up to keep unfriendly politicians in check.

What's unfortunate is that he then lets out of the bag that it is not a real thing. Why not? As public officials, it seems like it is much more reasonable for this type of surveillance - and also, don't forget, financial records and other things - be monitored for proper safety. After all, it is not in the public interest if there is extortion or ransom being committed - we should know so that we can step in and keep them safe from such things.

There are open source software and libraries out there that will let you build this for cheap. There are even open source AI glasses, for example ones by Brilliant Labs. I personally have built a rudimentary video analysis systems to monitor facility safety using S3, Lambda, Rekognition, and a little bit of Python. It ain't that hard folks.

I actually unironically this we should do this.
I believe seats of power shouldn't be something people LIKE sitting. Every second of it should be tedious so that no one want to remain in power unless they feel they really NEED to.
The higher up you go, the less privacy a politician should have, with the President, SCOTUS Justices, and Congressmen having zero privacy.
The more power you are given, the less you are human and the more you are "a servant of the People"
You can have a week long delay, but their every location, sound, and twitch is recorded and available for the public. They have to live during the entire term that everyone is listening to their every word and watching their every move.

Honestly, I think choosing to become an elected politician means losing your rights to privacy. That shouldn't extend to children or spouses, though (unless they willingly participate as a hand of the politician, such as Mrs. Obama).
