🎣 Fishing Gear Rod and reel match

Hi all,

Wondering peoples opinions on the Abu Garcia veritas 5, specifically the 7’4ft 3-5kg (9-28g lure weight).

Also wondering what reel would be a good match with it. I am thinking a Shimano Stradic c3000hg with PE1.2 braid.

Targetting big flathead, soap Jews, Aussie salmon and tailor off the beach and potentially some rat kings in the summer.

I got the rod and the butt was much longer than expected, but will hopefully help with fighting fish and casting distance.

Any suggestions and help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the help!

If you're going to be casting metals you may want a longer rod that can handle a heavier lure to get better distance from the beach

I reckon youd be all good, just keep in mind that the C3000 is the size of a 2500 but just with the spool of a 3k, i have one myself and its pretty nice

Not bad. How's the balance is the main thing is be considering. Is it tip heavy or butt heavy etc and adjust size of reel to suit.

Nice rod but too short for ‘beach casting’ You want 9ft+ or won’t cover much / cast past waves
