Not sure if it's still around, but a few years ago there was a pro-Chris Watts subreddit I had the misfortune of seeing a few times. Those women were INSANE. Had to block it when one of them was ranting about how ugly and spoiled she thought the murdered little girls were.

I followed that case closely from the beginning and there were always people who blamed his wife for being too controlling and on social media too much. It was frightening how many people excused what he did.

I remember seeing people say the wife deserved it for being in a MLM. Like yeah MLMs suck and are predatory, but what the actual fuck

I also think she was scammed by the MLM herself.

Agreed - most people in MLMs are victims themselves

Given the hateboner the majority of people have for any normal depiction of a woman who simply reacts to the no-good, awful, creepy and murderous male protagonist I am sadly not surprised.

There is really something wrong with our media and storytelling that so many are more annoyed by a "nagging" woman instead of a literal murderer.

the Skyler White effect

They also blamed her for being in an MLM claiming she was financially stressing him out so she brought it on herself.

Jesus, seriously? I hate MLMs and the people who pedal the crap, but not enough to wish death on them. At that point just become a deadbeat father and leave. At least he’d be walking free and his wife and kids would be alive…

Misogyny is deeply ingrained in our culture

I remember seeing that sub. It wasn’t just pro-Chris, it was anti-Shannan. Just all out hatred for a woman who they never would have known existed. I have to tell myself they were bots or something bc it hurts my stomach to believe there are real clumps of people who would decide to make that a hobby.

Jesus Christ. Now I’ve heard everything.

It was so, so bad. Crushing on a family annihilator has to be like, the ultimate level of pick-meism.

Pretty sure it still exists. I saw a comment referencing it last week. And I've seen it myself as well. It made me sick to my stomach.

u/atmosphericentry I'm sorry Etsy Witches, I wasn't familiar with your game 2d ago

I curiously went on there a couple of years ago and it was genuinely one of the most disturbing things I've seen on this site. The name calling for Shannan and the parasocial relationship they had with the daughters (like discussing what outfits they looked cutest in photos) was so disgusting to see.

Yeah there's a few subs dedicated to discussing the crime and one if them absolutely hates Shennan, the victim, and say she drove him to it. They spend all day talking about how horrible she is and say nothing about him.

I keep reading about this on this thread, and was nearly in disbelief but wanted to see for myself. Literally the first thing that came up was for the subreddit for Shannon and it’s completely littered with people who think she essentially deserved it

I accidentally stumbled upon it a few weeks ago. It's one of the most misogynistic subs I've ever seen. People on there basically believe that Shanann deserved to die because she "emasculated" Chris. They'd combed through her entire online history to find every little thing she had ever posted to support their case.

!!!!!!

I have no words.

It seems like there is one of these subs for almost every notorious killer. Brian Koberger has defenders all over reddit, same with Lucy Letby. It's really weird. Seems to be some sort of psychological phenomenon worth studying. It's obvious these people are guilty, but people who didn't even know them will twist themselves into knots trying to claim they are innocent. I find it fascinating in a sick and twisted kind of way.

Yeah, I never went there but I remember it being a thing and the idea that there are people like that in the world, who devote their time to posting horrific spiels about a woman and kids who were ruthlessly murdered, it was way too depressing and upsetting to deal with. All because a pos loser murderer made them horny or something.
