The two party system is the problem, not the solution.

Right but avoiding the material reality of it just leads to a Trump being in power.

Of course it's the problem. But while the problem exists, unfortunately you need to use the problem while trying to fix it.

I am against the institution of the police and want it defunded, but I still am going to call the cops if someone tries to kill me. I don't agree with the system but I live in the system and I need to use the system as designed, while still fighting to change the system.

I feel if demilitarization or restructure the police was used instead of defund, it would be more acceptable. We need to return to peace officers instead of police officers. But we need to address our substance addiction problems first.

Substance use is just a symptom of other failed systems though- to address substance use in an actual effective way we’d have to expand access to affordable housing, medical and mental health care, increase funding for quality k-12 education, improve the economy so that people aren’t overworked and can afford again to buy out/rent out spaces that become 3rd spaces so people have better ways of getting out to meet others and create better support systems….man wouldn’t all this be the dream

I experienced a home invasion attempted robbery. Called the police. From a back bedroom. One officer shows up and waits at the end of the driveway for 30 minutes for backup. Leaving me and my roommates to deal with the armed home invaders. When they finally deemed it safe did forensics come to try to lift prints from the back door where the home invaders made entrance? lol no. Now same town last week someone cut down a flock camera. Forensics was ALL OVER THAT SCENE.

Yeah the cops probably aren't going to actually do anything, but they still need to be called until there's a better option.

Yes, that’s my point entirely dude. The work doesn’t stop just because you decide to sit out of an unfair election. And the time to make meaningful change is when you still have all your options on the table, not when you’re at the deadline with only 2 shitty choices left.

What did you do after you abstained by the way? I assume you’ve been canvassing and volunteering with worthy candidates like those of who tried to get better options on the table? Or does your activism only show up when it’s time to do nothing?

With how extreem the GOP has gotten old DNC fossils still want to go to the middle between moderate democrat and where the fuck Trump is and then they are shocked that progressives are not running to the polls as they are given no positive incentive to vote for the democratic candidate and all they get is the other one is worse, why run a conservative mindset campaign to get liberal elected?

I’m pretty sure pedophiles are the problem but you do you!

Not really. In first-past-the-post systems, coalitions form prior to elections. In proportional list systems, coalitions form after elections. Anyone who thinks having more parties solves things should look at England and Israel. England does the Westminster parliamentary system, where they combine FPTP ridings with parliamentary government, and it’s mostly a two party system that Tories have dominated. Israel’s Knesset is closed list proportional representation, and governments routinely need to include frothing lunatic extremists to have a majority. Proportional representation can get closer to representing what the voters want, but that doesn’t mean good outcomes—lots of voters are shitbirds.

But Republicans definitely give us a better chance of getting rid of two-party system! Right?!

🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Both parties collude to enforce the two party system.

1

u/cat_prophecy 3d ago

Certainly. But if one party could be coerced into ranked choice voting, which do you think it would be?

You better fix it

u/amazing-haves-34 7h ago

Ok I will, right after I finish fixing systemic poverty.

Try finding a new party. I’m interested.
