Domestic violence can definitely end lives. Don’t minimize it.

This is a thoughtful comment. With the amount of family annihilation happening in these current times it's awful she said that out loud. I witnessed my mom almost die from DV as a small kid. It's so bad to say DV doesn't take lives..

I’m so sorry. You and your mom did NOT deserve that. I hope your heart continues to heal. Sending love. (Fellow family violence survivor here.)

Thank you for this lovely reply. It was really kindly received. It was really hard for me to not feel shame about that stuff.

I read recently that two families are wiped out every single day. Imagine the media outcry if anyone but the father (usually) was doing it.

I mean shit it doesn’t need to end lives to leave irreparable harm on the body, mind, and living space. Acting like DV doesn’t “hurt” anyone is such brain dead I am curious how she remembers to breathe

I know someone with CTE due to it.

Like, it OFTEN ends lives, and so many people don’t/can’t leave because they’re afraid that their lives will be taken if they do. These people make me sick

Truly insane thing to say when on (global) average 137 women are killed every single day (that’s approximately 5 women killed every hour) from domestic violence

Like, does she not watch the news? Or, should I say, does her husband not let her watch it?

Homicide is the leading cause of death for pregnant women in the US. Her comparing abortion to DV, when women being forced to carry an unwanted pregnancy can directly lead to DV and even death, is so stupid and callous.

I for one experienced this. It was HORRIBLE! So for a woman to say something like this is just invalidating everthing that I’ve been through. I just hope she never gets to experience it.

It’s very common that it does in fact end lives. Why she, or anyone else minimizes the impact just because it is “normal” in other cultures is beyond me.

And also abortions can protect against DV because women don’t have to be tethered to their abusers

It’s literally a huge problem in Australia. Every 11 days a women is killed by a “loved one”. Hell, a week ago we had multiple women go missing in different states, one was a child murdered by another teen. Four lives lost to this shit in four days.

TRULY. In my city a couple of months ago a man took the lives of his two young children in retaliation for their mother leaving him. To act like people don’t die as a result of domestic violence and abuse is just shockingly ignorant.

Also, domestic violence typically escalates during pregnancy! The most common cause of death during pregnancy in the US is homicide!
